  1. Plugs looked ok. Nice chocolate colour. I took the car down my MOT station today and got them to put their emissions probe in the expansion tank to look for exhaust gases. There was no reading at all. So I think I have a coolant leak rather than head gasket issue.
  2. thanks qwakers. Any ideas about losing water?
  3. Did a compression test on my 3.5 V8 as its drinking water and oil. 136k miles. Test was done with engine warm, all plugs out. I done each test 3 times and took the average. Results: Cylinder Dry Wet 1 140 139 2 138 152 3 140 150 4 145 153 5 138 145 6 150 162 7 150 153 8 142 153 What should the compression be for this engine? Looking at these I don't see any reason for head gasket blown - can a fault not show up on a compression test? I was assuming I was going to have to do an engine rebuild this summer but now not sure it's needed?
  4. It has been confirmed to me that the port indicated above is indeed used on V8 rangies for their oil pressure senders. So I'm going to fit the sender to this port.
  5. G4FUJ - do you know which port the pressure sender was on?
  6. Tiger seal or sikaflex are good panel sealants. If you never want it to come apart ever, then use evo stick serious stuff ultra.
  7. Thanks Doctorvaltar. I was hoping that it was easier than adding t-pieces or remote t-pieces. A couple of piccies would be great just to see where you have put what
  8. Thanks Western. It certainly looks like it lines up with that port. I'm not sure, but something in the back of my mind says when the 3.5 V8 is in a range rover, that they are fitted with an oil pressure guage as standard. Can anyone confirm this and if so which port is the sender on?
  9. I'm looking to fit an oil pressure gauge to my 3.5 V8. Do I have to put in a T-piece to use the port the pressure switch is in at the moment or can I use one of the other ports on the filter housing? There isn't much clearance between the filter housing and the steering box, so I'm hoping one of the other ports also tap into the outlet side from the filter. Here is a piccie: Can I use the port indicated?
  10. This exact thing happened to me today. The thermostat plug sheared off clean. Even though I had the thermostat out while trying to get the remaining plug out, some of it still went down into the head. I have air-con on my disco, so the pump (compressor) needed to come off to get access to the lower left (as you look at the engine) bolt on the thermostat housing. Once I figured this out it all went swimingly.
