  1. Happy Egg melting Easter.... Perfect Weather to change a head gasket on a 300tdi. Two of us spannering a side each 3.5 hours job done On a roll I thought let's break out the boost pin that was in my box of 'things to attach'. Opened up pump cover (was reconditioned 4 years ago so stock). Pin out - no nylon washer! Also I think my pump looks different see pics below. It's a doner 300tdi Disco put into an ex mod 110. Thought I would try pin for low and top end. In it went pointing right way. Been for a spin. Went well before but I can't tell any difference with this new Swedish pin. Wondering if I am supposed to see an amazing difference or not. Runs same as before. Don't think it's because or no washer unless I need to check again. No smoke. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience of non 'eggstatic' proportions!
  2. I have one of these when they were sold as BOSCH batteries by Halfords - its the same battery though. I have had it for a 3 years on a 2.5na and a 300tdi and it has been excellent. Will get another for split charge I think soon!
  3. There are some carp ones out there - I will see if I can trace where I got my last ones from - there are two sizes too - or where on mine - depth that is. Fingers crossed it just a split in the cap
  4. I second this as an initial check - clean wheel and put a new hub cap on(check old one for splits) did it and problem solved. Did take new one off and check it wasn't full of oil a week later and it was OK - so seems OK. Checked diff level also of course. Worth a check first - otherwise its not a bad job - lots of videos of people doing various seals and bearings on hub's. They are designed to be fixed on the trail!
  5. Hi - I have an MOD 110 so already fitted but make model and some vehicle details may help jog someone. Alternatively if it is the same as the MOD one I am more that happy to take pics or measure - while the sun is out - any excuse to take pictures of my defender!!!
  6. Hi Ian I am back onto Mintex after trying in a number of different pads in my 110 (discs all around) and Discovery's over the years. Tbh brake fade or dust on the rim's was never an issue for me - what I found was the Mintex brakes worked as well on these vehicles as any other but lasted the longest so for me it was a £ choice and oem one! Good luck!
  7. Sorry could not resist. I have a 95 110 ex MOD FFR 'SoftTop' and with 3 daughters (of course I bought it as a family car !) they love the summer (when we get it) roof off driving but complained about the lack of 'Disco' facilities in the vehicle. As a Mad Landy owner/professional IT nerd I had the below setup (Logitech Z906) in my office meeting room that was going spare. Well with a power Inverter and Bluetooth receiver - bolted two speakers in the front under dash - two in the rear corners - fit perfect and the base bungeed on the floor in rear needless to say the kids are a little happier now. Happier to the point that it is now like a mobile disco - they can play DJ with their phones via BlueTooth and I can happily sit driving wearing ear defenders and dark glasses. At '8' it takes the smile off most of the 'Polished Capacitor - Base Cannon' posse - must take the kids for a hearing test at some point! Just wanted to share - and get that mod off my chest ps Should tell the insurance company - as this probably doubles the value of the vehicle
  8. ......if you get the filter change wrong the oil runs up your arm across chest and onto said nipples. My wife has commented a few times how soft my skin is in that region The fun is only beginning.....
  9. Welcome to maybe the most fun you can will have on your own.............with some spanners! Its a bit of a steep learning curve but once you get above the cloud level the view is amazing. Taffia.
  10. Hi I have yet to do mine yet. I picked up a set from Newbury weekend and it depends on the type as some have two heat settings but I fou do this http://www.briandorey.com/post/Wiring-Land-Rover-Defender-Heated-Seats.aspx Hope it helps and let us know how it goes. P's how do you find the matting and did you get it direct? Taffia
  11. OCD and Ex MOD Landies is a hard mix - I know! I have seen both in Military stock versions for Army and other services so I guess its down to personal preference! That should be a sleepless night for the OCD (I did a wheel Bearing on my 110 yesterday and found that the Hub Seal was in the wrong way around hence the leak and there was no shim or circlip on the end of the axle - which is why at 0630 on a Sunday Morning I am going out to check the other wheels - sleepless night yes! 12. Hi, Wondering if anyone has had any experience of fitting Jackable Rock/Tree (protector) Sliders onto their 110 FFR. The side lockers are overhanding the area at the moment and I have read on some US sites where they have cut the bottom of the locker doors a bit to get them to fit but wondered if anyone has done this is in the UK or can recommend a supplier? Thanks Taffia
  13. Just because I like to close the loop. No.8 1/2 inch self tapper does the job. 40p for 8 from my local nut and bolt store. Thanks for the help.
  14. Thanks to everyone for the help - been away. Back onto it now! Thanks again Taffia
  15. Hi All, Our family ride is a 03 Discovery 2 TD5 which we love - my main spanner time is spent with my 95 110 MOD Defender but I need some help on the D2. Went to the Newbury Land Rover Spares day yesterday in said Disco - had a lovely time as always with two mates - wish we had brought a trolley again! On returning to my Disco, and loading the goodies into the boot - we were gob smacked to find that some not nice person had unscrewed some after market light guards off both the rear light clusters on the vertical pillars either side of the boot - gone - lenses just sitting/hanging there no screws and 120 miles to drive home! HONESTLY! After much gasps and queries and then checking for the hidden Candid Camera - we had to improvise - on going back into the show and buying some black Duck Tape we taped the outside of the lenses to the truck! Nothing else was gone - why the hell someone thought it was worth the grief - and why there - never had anything nicked before and in a sea of Land Rovers! Anyway - the real pain in the bum is I need to source the original screws - can't find the part number or size of the normal screws that go into the light clusters - not replacing the protectors - just want to be able to screw my lights back in and remove the tape and the mess it has undoubtedly left on my paint work. If anyone can help with the size I would be very grateful - I will try and source from a local Nut/Screw merchant. Will have to leave one of the kids in the Truck next time we go! Thanks Taffia.
  16. I can't possible comment as my wife may read this forum too - but getting down and dirty with my Defender is one thing - its the amount of money I have spent getting her this dirty that would have me in A&E quicker that you could say - "Its only a car dear.........."
  17. For me there is also a psychological side to this decision of Defender ownership. When I was looking around for a Defender a couple of years ago - I looked at brand new ones and for me what put me off was the 'Personalisation' factor. The vision of me drilling holes in a brand new Defender to add that personal touch or taking something apart just to see how it worked (something I have learned not to do so much now I admit!!!) alongside the cost of Warranty invalidation meant I was buying a vehicle I shouldn't be playing with which for me for the wrong reason for buying one. I would love a new one to use as my main vehicle - but I have a Discovery for that and that keeps the family happy with just the right amount of 'Green Oval' factor - however now that's getting old - trying to change the fuel pressure regulator on it at the weekend - a 30 min job presumably - if you have hands the size of Tinkerbell and the flexibility of a Yoga Master! For me its 'Torque Wrench vs Turtle Wax' Ownership - and I am in the first camp still! Its whatever makes you happy at the end of the day.
  18. Would larger 'knobbly' tyres give the vibration/massage option on those seats too?
  19. Hi All, Just to come back in case for future readers - it was the connection on the back of the light. The Squaddie before me had changed the light but not put back a rubber boot and there was no cone on the rear of the headlight - so just a bare connection and wires in the H4 bulb connector. (Will be sourcing rubber and cone next) A play with the wires and wow - bright light again - walk away and you get the dip-dim effect. So some tidying up to do! Once again - gold stars all around and thanks very much. Still amazes me the help this forum provides every time. Now to change the pulley tensioner on the 300tdi that's in there. Thanks again Taffia ps Passed the MOT flying colours!
  20. Hi All, After reading and searching I hope someone can throw some 'light' on this one - excuse the pun! My driver side driving and main beam have stopped working and I am left with a 'Dim' light when the lights are turned on this one side only - from reading on here it sounds like the Dim-Dip running option but I haven't found any examples of it only effecting one side - and I have never seen Dim-Dip option before on the vehicle. The passenger side headlight works perfectly. I have checked the fuse box and that seems all OK - but I haven't take the front off yet to see if there are relays behind Mine is a 95 110 ex mod so I have the light switching dial in the centre of the console but from looking at the wiring diagrams and testing it this is not the problem and it would effect both sides. I have the Dash off and can't see a pink relay anywhere behind the dash (As an ex army Defender I can't imagine they would have had this option?) - but I admit I did get a little rained off at 8am. but about to go back out with larger torch and flask! Normally when I put the side lights on I don't get the Dim-dip option so I am perplexed its started in one headlight all of a sudden. After a few coffees, two Haynes manuals and a bit of searching I thought I would ask in case I am missing something. All of the issues I have read about seem to effect both lights - that's what's throwing me. Any hints for a to assist my wet Sunday Landy electrics Session much appreciated - and of course it have to be just before MOT week!! Thanks Taffia
  21. Thanks Is this considerably heavier to a normal 2 door 110 then? I appreciate it may be down to the Tester but if there was an insurance query etc could I fall back on the MOT was done as X? I don't look good in Orange! Taffia!
  22. Hi, Quick question - a friend of mine pointed out that the information plate under the bonnet on the drivers side has the following numbers under each other: 3050KG 5550KG 1 - 1200KG 2 - 1850KG Its a 95 110 Ex MOD FFR Canvas - does the above mean its 3.05 tonne in weight and does that mean a different MOT class? I have had a look around and can't see anything. Its not a Snatch vehicle I can't work it out as I though it was closer to 2T (1850KG) Thanks for your input - just don't want to get caught out! Taffia
  23. Dear buzza/Western - many thanks - it was the lrcat link I was missing - the other parts catalogue don't have this bit on - will keep it safe Off to purchase
  24. Hi, I finally managed to get a new set of seats for my Military 110 from the recent Newbury meet - no more plastic cushions for me - I now have a set of Techno Defender seats with Heating - feel like a Range Rover Owner - if I can every work out how to connect them - that's another job. I am about to fit the seats and I noticed I only have one of the plastic plugs/guides that the two pins on the back of the seat bases slide into. Pic below. I would really appreciate if anyone could tell me the part number/what it is to buy another three - and also where you found it please so I can avoid such posts - I have searched oh yes but still learning the dark art of "Part Number Sourcing" Thanks Taffia.
