  1. Hi, Many factors to the pressures when it comes to off road tyres... Like how much use on road it has on them or how much weight is carried on them. Running off road they can be as low as 20psi (on sand or something similar) I would probably feel inclined to run at 30-32psi for general on and off road usage thou. Worth remembering to drop the pressure if you get stuck!
  2. Heated washer jets..... Why would you want them??? Is that so you can pour hot water all over the windscreen and crack it? Waste of time in my opinion.
  3. I had the same problem recently. Only difference I was stuck at work at 9 at night. Worse than being stuck at home!!! After much swearing and kicking the tyres I robbed one of works ford transits of it's battery. Still in there 3 weeks later and still starting fine, the battery has a better cranking rating then the cheap halfords one. But good earths always help!!!
  4. When I have to replace my battery I will stick an Optima battery on, Much more dependable and has phenomenal sustainability under load. Used to have one on an old Range Rover and it could happily pull her out a river when she had the engine flooded. Don't know if they are the cheapest place for them but paddocks stock them. http://www.paddockspares.com/scp/NEW_PRODU..._Batteries.html
  5. couldbe the water pump? I had one go on a car once and that started squealing prior to dying?
  6. Not sure what they are like but I have just bought 4 insa Dakar tyres for my disco. A friend highly recommended them to me. From what I hear as well Colway has gone bust so obtaining them is becoming very hard. The Insa Dakars 265/75x16 cost me £246.76 for four bought them online and it's going to cost £40 to have them fitted and balanced so £280 total not too bad all things considered. I bought them from http://www.mailorder4x4.com/ if your interested!
  7. Thanks everyone for your help and advice. I have gone for some Insa Dakar's 265/75x16. Will look a lot better and give me the freedom I need. The suspension lift seems a little too much work to worry about with all the other bits that would need to be replaced. Still I can dream of it...... Hmmmm..... Will go and get my tracking checked prior to installation to be on the safe side! Thanks once again. And here's to off roading properly!!!
  8. Oh and if this size is a problem on these rims what is the biggest size I could comfortably sit on the rims? I am happy to cut the arches and remove silly pointless valances!!!
  9. Ok, more confused now !! Currently I have the standard disco alloys (7Jx16x33.0) with 235/70/R16 Road Tyres (Nearly bald!!!). So if I got some 265/75R16 tyres would they fit onto these alloys without causing too much problem or would I need to get these offset steel's?? I like the sound of your idea without initially lifting the suspension.
  10. Hi everyone, I currently use my Disco about 50% on road and 50% off road, I currently have road tyres on which is not good!!! I am looking to get some A/T's but also would like to get a lift kit for her. My main reason for the post is to try and ascertain what to do. I want A/T's suited for 50/50 use but would also like to increase her overall ground clearance without loosing too much of he comfortable road driving (doing about 600 miles a month). What lift kit should I buy? Should I be looking to increase the rim size and if so what to? What tyres would be best to buy? Would be really great to get a shopping list (lift kit, tyres and sizes, rims and sizes, spacers if needed, eyebrows if needed, body modifications if needed.) compiled from some people so I can get a better idea as to what I am up against! I don't have a clue and don't want to be miss sold products from some random person, I am not bothered by brand names and I am happier buying CHEAP quality parts. Any help will be greatly appreciated in my quest! Iain

    Speakers

Yes I have a discovery one, sorry forgot to say!
  12. Hi everyone, Now I have replaced bearings etc I am looking into the inside comforts. I was wondering if it was possible to fit speakers in the rear passenger door cards. Just that I have some decent speakers kicking around and thought about sticking them in there. Any one else done this?
  13. Well had a fun day! Started at 10am and finished off at 9pm!!! Yawn!!! She drives like a dream now, no shakes, clunky noises and pulls in a straight line. On dismantling the hubs and swivels I found the top swivel bearings on both sides to be collapsed and loads of play in the drivers side cv joint. Used the guidelines of replacing the hub seals etc from the tech bit on here very useful!!! The only problem I came across whilst replacing everything was getting one of the cv joint ends to stick out far enough to put the circlip back on. I tried a bolt through it and tugging it with a rope and it wouldn't budge. So I resolved it with a bolt a chain and a trolley jack! Not in any mechanical book!! I left this right to the end with all the wheels back on and removed the center cap off a wheel for. It involved bolting the chain to the disco on the cv end and then bolting it round the handle of the trolley jack. I then ran away from the hub with the trolley jack in hand and it pulled it out perfectly. I also replaced my radiator today which means no more puddles of water when I stop any where. If anyone is going to undertake removing the swivel and hub for the first time, please make sure you have a complete day without interuptions, there is lots of bolts to remove. Once I had done one the second became alot easier and quicker as I knew my way round. I have gone for using grease in the hub as I plan to off road her and wanted something more resilient to water ingress. Now all I have to do is weld up both inner wings a small patch on the boot floor and a patch under the rear seats, then diff seals and a service!! She will get there in the end. If it didn't have a problem it wouldn't be a land rover thou I suppose! All the parts cost me £230 from paddocks which isn't bad really considering £100 of it was the radiator. Thanks once again guys for advice and suggestions it helps get the brain ticking over. Iain
  14. Hey everyone, Thanks for the advice! Have bought new bearings, all seals and gaskets and cv joints. Will see how that goes tomorrow. Gonna have fun!!! Luckily have a fully equipped workshop to use with anything you could dream of needing and some mechanics on hand to help me if I get stuck!! Thanks once again and will let you know how it all goes!!!
  15. Not sure if the tracking is out or not... But surely the bearings giving loads of play would set the wheels up wrong in the first place??? What bits do I need to buy for replacing my cv joints, swivel gasket kit and wheel bearings? Thanks Iain
