I'll help you change the O rings and check the Back lash (in my breaks)you can put it back together then.
I have the tools/jacks etc to do the job.
D44 for the O rings they are an ARB part
you could strip the diff out and change the O rings without a cmplete teardown.
Backlash is easy to check/deal with in reality

Charles it could be the rubber O ring/rings inside, and this means a rebuild.
not difficult but time consuming.....
this shows the offending items cost about £2 each.
After re reading your post, Simons advice is what I would do before pulling it apart.
if it locks and stays locked the O rings should be ok
rear TD5 ones are the same as TDi ones FRC 8393 it is the front that are different.
no need for a de carden on the rear the angle is ok.
a wide angled variant will be of use if you have Very long travel suspension
