My car, shooting, photography, my girls and most important my wonderfull wife.
  1. I spoke to the dealer again today and told him I want the car looking at by an electrical engineer...we have a local vehicle diagnostics centre who are very good and he agrees that it needs sorting...I have a multimeter but the weather is nasty at the present and I am not for getting wet...it will be sorted, just when....and your kind offer of the broken unit...thank you but no, I expect the garage to sort it...they have been paid they have to sort it.....thanks again.
  2. I think this and so do others but getting it wrong twice in a row seems a bit long odds...It is deffinately installed correctly and there is nothing snagging the float....I just think it is wired up wrong but the manufacture is refusing to sort it out...time me thinks for Trading Standards to get involved.
  3. My 02 plate 1.8 is a pearl if you dissmiss the naff fuel gauge...it had the engine completely rebuilt in may by a Rover dealer and the engine runs like a dream...all Freelanders old and new have good solid metalwork, they are nice looking cars...dont dissmiss the 1.8 it is a good engine........I traded a neat and very reliable 2.0 Rav4 for my car and some would say I am mad...perhaps a little, but I love my Freelander.......Somebody told me that owning a Landrover was similar to keeping a bit on the side...you have to keep giving it a bit of attention and spend a little £££ to keep it sweet....be negligent and it will jump up and bite you in the arse when you least expect it.
  4. Like the title says the new fuel pump and sender unit shows full when it is empty and empty when it is full...we replaced the new fuel pump with a new unit today and still the problem is there...I spoke to Land Rover who had no idea what it could be....I might well have been talking in chineese to them for all it mattered.....they said that when the pump burned out it sent a spike of power to the gauge on the dash and this has probably cause the fuel gauge to run backwards...what a load of horse shat!!!!....so come on you experts, what is wrong with my car....box of beer to the one who helps me put it right.
  5. I too have an 02 plate freelander and the dealers said that there is no code for this vehicle...I phoned up the local Rover place and gave the reg and they looked it up without any of the questions...give them a ring it is the simplest answer.
  6. I too had the same fear about the VCU going on my recent 02 plate and decided that only Rover could reassure me and they did, they said that the IRD is offset on the drive train and because of this full lock gives the feeling that the VCU is going i.e that the brakes are on...this only occurs when I put the stearing over on its furthest extream...they said that when it starts to go you will notice during normal driving...they also said that over the years the manufacture of this unit has got better and better and they rarely break nowadays....my advice is dont panic, enjoy your car and stop worrying about what could happen until it does. Regards
  7. The new fuel pump is working fine though the sender unit is not...when the tank is full it reads empty and when it is empty it reads full...the garage said that it must have been wired up wrong during manufacture....it is definately a Land Rover and is going back in on friday for pump number 5 to be fitted...you have to laugh
  8. I won't bore the hell out of you with the full story, but!.....four pumps later, two wrong type and one right type but broken direct from land rover.... the fourth pump works and the car is now back on the road...a full week to complete a repair that took less than 20 minutes....what a farce...the best bit is that it was done under the Warranty, so I did not have to part with my hard earned...I have decided that I will have to buy the Haynes Manual and try to do future repairs myself...get the RAC to diagnose the problem and effect the repair myself.....many thanks for the replies.
  9. Thanks for the help...the car is almost repaired and will be finished on monday...I need the car back on the road urgent so it had to be a dealer repair...god only knows how much the repair is going to cost.
  10. Pulled up to the trafic lights near home this morning and the car spluttered from the lights and stalled mid junction...I managed to restart it but it shuddered and miss fired itself for about 50 yards and then died....The RAC came and he did lots of tests and he deduced that the Fuel Pump had died...my car is an 02 plate 1.8 petrol and I would like to know what sort of cost is involved in the replacement...It was towed to Guy Salmon in Stockport so yes it is a main dealer repair. Be Gentle with me...or should I go get the Vaseline...
  11. This is a picture of my brothers Discovery and the new bumper he fabricated from 5mm Steel plate...all curves are actually formed using strips of steel seam welded and ground to shape...a couple of days work and it is all done...final finishing was with filler and two pack paint for a smooth finish.... ...if you fancy one p.m. me
  12. A common fault on a toyota is two cars from a run of 20,000 having a faulty switch....a common fault on a Land Rover is 19,998 cars having a faulty switch and two work fine...you will find that your Freelander will keep your tools well oiled and your weekends full...the love affair of owning and running a Land Rover surpasses any mortal affair you could imagine....just remember Brittish Craftsmen built your Rover at 16:50 on a Friday afternoon...the answer to your question is Yep its common. Even though the freelander forum reads like a recipe for disaster cake, there are LOADS of trouble free Freelanders out there and a couple of faulty switches is nothing, I sold a perfectly good Toyota to own one and my Blue 02 is wonderfull. and I have no intention of getting rid of it.
  13. Please tell me this is not a dream and the last week has actually been and gone or is this just another case of "De Ja Vue" ...did you not ask this and other questions in an earlier post and' I could have sworn we gave you all the answers...or have I just dream pt it?
  14. Ah the "knowledge" on this forum...ask a question and you can bet someone has the bitter experience and the knowledge to put it right...what did we do without forums...oh I know! we paid up and shut up....I have added the replies to my little book of remedies just in case.
  15. Happy new Freelander....It would seem that this forum is mostly doom and gloom however, I am sure that you will enjoy your new car once you get the bad bits out of the way. Door....take the door card off and manually trip the latch, then work the mechanism several times to see what is happening...it might mean a trip to the breakers or even Rover to fix it properly...the other lights need addressing and the best way is to ask rover what they mean..."ABS" sounds expensive...."HDC is expensive but not urgent as you will only use it on severe hills I dont know what the last one is. Did you get a warranty with the car or was it bought privately....best bet short term is ring rover and get an idea of the codes and what it might cost to repair them
