  1. Has anyone got one of these fitted that they could supply me some pictures, as would like to develop a swing away carrier for the rear of the 101 which mounted to the rear x member in a similar way and from the tiny picture it looks quite well put together. Or if anyone has come up with something similar that would be great also.
  2. Nige, I tried to do exactly that with the GPS software and could not get the USB GPS receiver to work on the compaq, what comm port etc did you use or is it particular to the GPS receiver?
  3. I have just done a very similar job on the 101, and there is a disco oil cooler surplus to requirements if you would like it, am based in Southam warks. For the pipe work it was all very cheap from the local agricultural supplies / fitters, made me up 2 complete crimped pipes for £9. Am sure you will have one somewhere near you.
  4. Les, I assume you have welded the original holes over and cut revised holes in the base?
  5. Does the volume of the intercooler or inlet and outlet pipes effect the way the air moves through it or cools with it? I have the old 300TDI cooler from the disco so could install it but thought I might need the UUmph from a larger one, also the connections are a little awkward for direction, hence why I was thinking of looking for another.
  6. Am just in the process of converting a 101 to 300tdi, does anyone know of an economical intercooler I can put into the engine bay either custom built or pre-built, at narrower than 460mm?
  7. I did this on the 110 having fitted an electric fan, moved intercooler back and slightly up about 3 " for winch clearance and moved the rad a further 2" so I could get a fan between them, don't have any pics but used an allisport intercooler to my size specs, and moved both rad and intercooler higher.
  8. Have never had a problem with it getting hot, except the day we punctured the rad and drained it completely.
  9. Had a quick hunt through and not been able to find any pics where the rad is not covered by spare etc, but it is very similar to Mike's picture Fridge freezer posted. The ducting in the cab is pretty intrusive though.
  10. Paul, Thanks for that have got onto him. Mark
  11. This is the standard set up on the Tomcats and even given the tortured route the pipework takes we are still using the standard pump has been on there 3 years 300 tdi. The one thing I would say is filling the system is a nightmare and expect to spend quite some time getting the air out of the system, lots of starting reving for 10 secs, stopping removing caps and re-filling. Other than that it is brilliant, I never clean the radiator out. Make sure if you are setting it up against a cowl that water can drain away from the front as this is one issue I had....too well sealed.
  12. Guys, have had a very interesting chat with a guy who drove an ambulance to OZ, with an admitedly heavy vehicle he was only achieving 16mpg on a 3.5 mazda, with such a small difference from the standard petrol I would have to question whether it was worth the swap and all the possible subsequent problems, wrong gearing, fitment issues re-wiring, etc etc. I think I will stick as standard for the time being, as I know of two pwople who are currently converting to 300 TDI, see how their vehicles turn out and then possibly look again later in the year. Although being a long term dieselly, I have an unnatural fear of the petrol engine and how to fix those annoying little issues.
  13. Am looking to replace a V8 in the 101 to create a more economical vehicle for an overland trip, does anyone have any recommendations as to what works well and can be mated to a transfer box? I have a borg/warner which would suit the transfer box quite nicely if I could mate a decent sized diesel and auto box infront of it. My theory was the bigger the better output power wise, although obviously there is a point where cost becomes inpractical, was wondering whether the 3.1 isuzu would suit. Does anyone have any opinions / thoughts or a lovely big diesel engine looking for a home?
  14. We built a shed a mates house last summer for him to keep his toys in. We found a building site which was putting up box corrugated factory units and persuaded the foreman to save his off cuts each day and went and picked them each night just as they were they shutting up. We picked up some junk etc, but managed to get some panels which were big enough. The backside looks a bit like a jigsaw but since it is up against a fence this was not a problem. the timber frame cost about £80 including screws etc. The corrugated material is pretty strong in it's own right so the frame does not have to be huge. Worth a thought. Would definitely go with Al's suggestion of clear panels or a few old strip lights.
