  5. with regards to the nfu,i have been with them for 17 years, had a couple of claims, they are excellent to deal with, very helpful, unlike tesco insurance, ask me how i know!the nfu are not competative on normal cars though but i still rate them for landrover insurance.

  9. for your purpose the chassis are near identical, when i have shortened them i make up a sectionabout 12" long that fits snug inside the chassis rail box section like which works well spreading the load,i leave a 10mm gap when i pull the two halves back together, this leaves a nice area to weld, then finish off with plates around the outside.
  10. to further this,as well as the oxford mig i have an mta 201 ac/dc tig welder built by the same factory, that also is very good.
  11. as well as portamig look at oxford migmaker, built by the same people in york,i bought one 2 years ago, very happy with it,speak to gary at mig, tig&arc,in hampshire, they will supply anywhere in the country, highly recomended.
  12. reading this makes me giggle nige,i am 46,the instructor i had last year at colchester was 25 and a demon welder,i found tig to be addictive,we have an mta 201 ac/dc set at home and i too use tig now where i would just have used mig before.

  15. my mate had one mated to an lt77s a few years ago,it worked but soon knackered the box due to the torque the engine produces, although he did a lot of towing with it,i am sure you know but 380=380nm of torque which the r380 is rated to handle.
  16. i did a year at colchester institute last year, level 1,mig,tig,mma.all in the flat, this was one night theory one night practical for 36 weeks, did it with my son, thoroughly enjoyed it,passed all with distinction, tig was only on mild steel and stainless, cost me £960 !.my son is doing level 2 which as nige says is vertical,i couldn,t do year 2as i had an impending op on my shpulder which i knew was going to take 3 months to recover from,i would encourage anyone with an interest to enrol and learn from proffesionals.
