  1. Hi all, looking to switch from my estate car back to a land rover and D3s are tempting me. I’ve had a 300tdi 90 and D1 plus a D2 over the years Just how bad are the D3s for reliability and maintaining? cheers Jamie
  2. That was half of my reasoning behind buying this one haha, run it it’ll the body dies then stick the engine and box in the 90 im sure there’ll be a way of making the zf auto work outside the car
  3. In the same mate, could have had a decent 56 plate from the estate I used to work on for £6k back in 2015 but money was tight, now I’m kicking myself haha I’m currently in a 530d touring as a daily driver but I might just bite the bullet and get a hilux or l200 🫣
  4. Currently on 1, about to be 2. I’ll be honest and admit I think we’ve outgrown the 90, along with 2 children I’ve got to somehow find room for the 2 pushchairs and assorted items and quite often 3 spaniels 😬 Too true about kids and landrovers though, current child isn’t even 2 yet but loves her trips in the 90 and often points other defenders out in car parks anyone selling a 110 crew cab cheap? 😂😂
  5. I had a feeling this would be the case, a 110 crew cab would be perfect but they’re about 3x over budget for me haha I’ve had discoveries and they do work well as a family vehicle but they just seem to be lacking something to me all I know is I’m going to end up with multiple cars now as the 90 is not going anywhere haha
  6. Hi all, I’ve got an extending family now and the old 90 only has 2 seats. what affordable options are there to put rear seats in that can accept child seats? Cheers
  7. Thanks for the input, the car I’m looking at has just had both turbos and the inlet manifold replaced so should be good on that front. after reading more into it I think I’ll be avoiding the Range Rover for now as I can justify £675 road tax and 21-25mpg is just a touch to low these days with the mileage I do haha
  8. Hi all, I’m hoping to buy a 3.6 tdv8 l322 in the next few weeks and was hoping I could get some input on what they’re like to live with? I know landrocets in general are a running project rather than reliable daily drivers (at least mine are anyway haha) but just complex are these big machines? im a diesel fitter by trade so happy with nuts and bolts but not so strong on electrics Cheers guys
  9. Definitely tempted by the 3.6tdv8 now I’ve spotted a few haha
  10. Don’t tempt me… this whole process has just been sped up by my car being written off last night outside my house
  11. Hi all, long time Land Rover sufferer, had a 300tdi 90 for 10 years, a 2.25 series 3 for around 7 years and also had a couple of discovery 1 and 2s in that time. I’m looking to swap my everyday bmw estate for something larger and was considering a decent spec D3. just how much of a money pit is the D3? Hear lots of horror stories of massive bills and unsolvable electrical issues but I’d like some real world input on reliability and running costs. im decent with a spanner so can tackle most jobs in the garage which I know helps keep costs reasonable
  12. Bear had it right, small wire to the solenoid had came loose. why do they always choose the day you’re in a rush going somewhere nice in your best clothes so you can’t be crawling around underneath!
  13. Hi all, my discovery won’t crank. put the key in, turn ignition on and get all lights, radio etc. turn further to crank and I loose the radio as if it’s trying to start but it doesn’t crank. no flashing lights or anything on the dash and the lights on the gearstick change and correspond to the gear I’m selecting when playing with the stick any suggestions?
  14. Hi all, Came to my car this morning to get some stuff out and the key fob would not work, changed the fob battery and tried the lock/unlock sequence to reprogram it but not joy. the drivers door lock is either seized or is a different key to the ignition so I couldn’t get in that way either. managed to get in by carefully bending the passenger door top and pushing the central locking button with a stick. all doors unlocked and locked from the button so im happy the mechanics of the system are working. however once in I was totally unable to turn off the immobiliser as the car still wouldn’t register the key fob im thinking it’s the receiver unit in the rear headlining that I need to be looking at? or any other suggestions before I load the parts cannon?
  15. After getting a good look earlier today it was actually the exhaust rear silencer had been blowing and melted the loom just where it comes out of the chassis to the rear cross member
  16. Hi all, first time posting in a while! my drivers side indicators and the dash light are all stuck on solidly, ie not flashing. only way to turn them off is to disconnect the battery. is there any obvious fault to look at such as flasher unit/hazard switch possibly? cheers
  17. Hi all, the bushes/connectors on my transfer box linkage have worn so that I can’t control the diff lock via the lever, I have to go underneath and do it manually. ive adjusted the linkage and I can get either engage or disengage but no both as the worn bushes takes up the movement of the lever. does anyone have a part number for these and can they be changed in situ? Or is the box coming out? I would normally pull the tunnel out but I’ve fitted WOR matting and I’m never removing that again haha thanks Jamie
  18. Cheers everyone, I not sure when it blows to be honest, I’d like to think it’s horn related but I wouldn’t bet on it. I’ll have a good look at everything when I get a chance thanks
  19. Evening all My 1989 90 keeps blowing the fuse for no apparent reason. I’ve checked the simple stuff like earths and looked for dirty connections but can’t find anything obvious. any advice is greatly appreciated. jamie
  20. If it’s like the estate I worked on then it’ll definitely get a good workout... several “roads” requiring diff lock and passengers grabbing the Jesus handles just to get to the end of the road 😂😂
  21. Problem solved, one of the wires on the start solenoid had snapped inside the crimp, the half hearted attempts must have been just a couple of strands making contact
  22. Hi all, drove my 90 home from work this morning, all perfect, turned it off to unlock the gates then when I went to turn it back on it wouldn’t crank, I got one half a**ed attempt to crank but that was it. Managed to bump it along the drive and it ran fine. any pointers on where to be looking? im guessing earths or battery leads possibly? could the starter just pack in so suddenly? jamie
  23. Do you know if discovery is different? The box is from a 97 300tdi disco. thanks
  24. Hi all, I have a 1989 90” that I’ve put a 300tdi and r380 plus the 1:1.2 transfer box in, the speedo cable snapped yesterday when I pulled the dash board out, I bought a replacement for a defender but it doesn’t fit the transfer box. are they actually different fittings or did I have a bad part? if I buy a Disco cable will it mate with the defender speedo head? thanks Jamie
