Cheers Jeremy, I've got a quote of £3400 ATM which isn't bad compared to my friends who are paying about £2500-£3000 for a mix of corsas, clips etc. so just wandering if I can get it down a bit more or see about a multi car policy with my dads cars or something?
Hi
Can anyone recommend insurers who will give decent quotes for a young driver ( 17 years old and first car)
The car is an '89 defender 2.5 turbo diesel if that helps
Cheers
Cheers, should be getting the drivers door painted to same colour as rest of car next month when it goes to the body shop for a revamp and spring clean
Cheers guys
I knew about holding the key in position just wasn't sure how long for, if I hold for 6 seconds then it usually took 2 attempts at cranking, about 5 seconds each, to get started it was about 7 degrees today when I tried so next time I'll warm it for 12 seconds then.
Thanks guys
Hi again
Sorry about the constant stupid questions but when starting my 1989 2.5 turbo diesel I turn ignition on and give it a second, then turn the key so the glow plug light comes on but I'm not sure what to do now. I've been told give it about 6 seconds then crank it over but other people have said wait for the light to go out before cranking, which is correct?
Also I've heard differing thoughts on whether or not to have my foot slightly on the throttle during starting.
Cheers
For any replies
P.s ill try and attach a pic to this thread
Thanks for that. I'll have a look around on that at some point tomorrow. The main reason for the p+p sites was that most of them seem to allow young drivers the chance to drive and I'm only 16 so struggle for chances to drive my defender.
Cheers
Jamie
Hi guys
Have any of you been to pea farm in Stanley?
If so is it still open and would a big standard defender be able to cope? Just asking as the videos look pretty brutal
Cheers
Cheers guys, the clutch was slight low. I've decided to go with removing the bulkhead and fitting the bar and rails. At some point in the bear future I'll probably post a list of wanted parts once I find out what's needed and will start a new thread about a leaky door.

Thanks for that, I thought they should be at even heights. Just from looking the brake is about 3/4 of an inch higher than throttle and clutch so I'll have a look at adjusting it later.
Thanks for that
Jamie
Cheers, might try the steering wheel first then, sounds cheaper lol. I'm in Durham and thanks for the welcome. Sure ill pop up now and then with daft questions.
Where would I find a smaller diameter steering wheel?
Cheers
Jamie
I've just bought the above car with the intention of fixing it up for my 17th birthday but I didn't get a chance to sit in it before getting it home. Now it is home I've realised that I can't get my foot onto the brake pedal because the brake pedal is slightly raised compared to the throttle/clutch which means that I just jam my foot against the side of it rather than on it so I can press it. Is there any way to extend the seat travel backwards, lower the brake so it's flush with the others or raise the steering wheel so that I can use all 3 pedals? I've seen mud rails or something but they won't work as the bulk head prevents the seat going further back so the bulkhead will probably have to come out if possible plus mud rails will raise the seat meaning my legs got the steering wheel. Any suggestions? Cheers Jamie
