  1. i very much dought that its the steering damper, gas or not..... as it did it before the damper was fitted, it did it when there was no damper on,and it does it now with the new damper on..... thanks for the reply tho, as all info is very welcome to help us thanks
  2. ok some serious help needed here, as me and my dad are totaly confused.... he owns a 1995 300TDI disco which was in ok condition when he bought it a few years ago, just the usual wear and tear on landrover parts, and hes bought loads of new parts for her to get her running perfectly (maily running gear).... hes done a few jobs for me in the past which included towing cars including a disco on a trailer, and when doing this he has noticed that it hasnt been the easyest car to drive, especaily at speed, its abit hard to keep in a straight line....... So hes bought alot of up grades, and replacment parts for the suspension recently, to try and help with towing, and get rid of a horrible wobble..... hes replaced all the track rod ends, a drag link bar, wheel bearings, swile bearings (swile kits), 4x ball joint drop links on the anti roll bars, rubber dough nut, 2x UJ's in front prop..... hes upgraded all the bushes to polly bushies including the shock rubbers, drop link rubbers, stearing damper etc. heavy duty A-fame ball joint, front and rear heavy duty springs (no extra lift), heavy duty super GAZ shocks front and back (no extra travel), super GAZ steering damper.... as you can imagine it looks brilliant under neith with all the new parts, and is mechanicaly sound.... only problem is that we have done all this to her to make her perfect for towing, but she has a horrible wobble now and again towing or not towing, and it feels as its snaking even tho it hasnt got a trailer on her, and its even worse with a trailer on ...... i used to own a 300tdi disco and i could happly drive at "cough" 90 on the motor way with one hand on the wheel and the other on the stick, and would happly drive like that for hours..... but when i drive his i wont go above 60 and have both sweaty hands on the wheel for when it has a dodgey wobble on her.... ive even drove my V8 offroader with low inflated tyres filled with mud, and knackered shocks easyer then i drove his....... god nos how he manged to tow with it.... can anybody please help us with this problem, we just dont understand why it does it,and its abit worring to drive now, any coment welcome
  3. oh im not worried about damaging her or even breaking her...... you should see the state of the body at the moment, there isnt a straight pannel on her including the roof.... she did used to be a cracking daily drive for me but after getting more and more into offroading i was pushing harder and harder to go the extreme route and things started to break more regular, ive broken 2 detroit locks, auto gear box, half shafts, ripped heavy duty bumpers in half, ripped of wings, poped out lights, bent my track rod about 90 degrees, ripped tyres completely off the rims.. so you can emagine its not in the best condition ..... so now she is been cut down to size and then trailered everywhere...... ive already learned that the body of the disco isnt the best size for off roading so this is why im collecting info on challenge events..... dont want to spend time and money building her up to find that some events wont except her mods..... ive noticed that some places wont except locking diffs, but some of the people that go there have them, so how do you get around that????
  4. oi you!!!!!! leave my bloody V8 out of this, theres nothing wrong with it, i think your just worried if you see me oneday at a winch event with my V8 barbling..... TOO MUCH POWER anyway stop slagging my disco off and help me out abit with trying to get into what you call "your favourite sport".... i need to know what i can i cant do to my disco and what else i need to have
  5. this is what i mean, i dont know anything about the sport and how to get into it, expert or beginner i wouldnt say ive got loads of experiance, but i have had plenty of off road practice on some extreme terrian. no real practice using my winch properly in an event..... you cant realy say pulling some 1 out of a hole with a winch like ive done is good practise for an event..... i just want to start at the bottom and work my way up
  6. ok im realy intrested in winch challenge events, but im totaly new to this sort of stuff and have no idea how to get into it all ive seen that some (maybe all) events need to qualify to MSA standards, so thats something else i need to learn all about and need to join.... ive alread got a quite moddiefed discovery, and im in the prosess of doing loads more, but its only been used on play days, which i think is abit of a waste.... im ready to make/install a roll cage, but im worried that if i want to get into events its going have to be up to standards, or im i worring to much???? basicaly i need to know all the ins and outs on getting into this sport thanks
  7. yes we all no that it doesnt make sence why i started it and i still dont no why i started, but thats not the point, im sure its not ment to do this even with all the imputs missing....... and it had no chance of revving its self to death, that why i stood there with my hand on the ignition keys except for the butter fly valve on the throttle been missing i cant see there been to much of a problem, ive ran my engine while the air flow meter has been off before to see if that was a fault, and ive ran it with out the potentionmeter on aswell...... its still getting fuel from the injectors (fare enough it might be to much fuel) and its got the correct ignition timing so its got a spark..... its like a poorly running carb engine but i dont see them spitting flames out the carb!!!!!!
  8. ok im still having problems with my V8, and ive chequed alot of the electrics and all seems ok so far, i also found a problem with the dizzy (had abit of water inside ) so now its running better but not 100% and im still getting popping through the air box!!!!! its time to start to take things apart now to see if its something mechanicle... i realy want to see if the cam is timed up correctly, i tryed to work it out through the oil filler cap but the cam that i have must have a flat apex on it as the exhaust valve stays at its peek for atleast 8 degrees so i cant find the exsact point of where its fully closed so i cant tell if its timmed up properly..... i started to take parts off and got to the plenum chamber when i found out this happened... god nos why i started it but kinder glad i did.... i know the fueling is going to be messed up as it hasnt got the stepper motor plugged in, the air flow meter, the potentionmeter, and the trummpets are fully open....... BUT IS THIS REALY MENT TO HAPPEN??????? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4nhfG6nB37c
  9. OPPPSSSS this is the video of the readings off the airflow meter when the ignition is turned on and the engine is not running it should jump to .5 - .8 and shouldnt take any longer than 3 seconds to drop to .3 other wise something it wrong..... well so ive read anyway http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PTlDDWZNlq4
  10. well it only started to do this after last time i went off roading on sunday every other mod i have done to it never gave me any trouble but in creased performance ive had recon head, which are also slitly ported ive got the gems airflow meter KnN air filter timing is set to 10 degrees BTDC with great response from centre fugle advance and vacuum advance a FSI fule pressure reg piper torquer cam shaft the plugs are fine and only about 6months old spent £40 on a set of 8 my KnN has got the oil on it, i thought it was stupid to try and block the air flow with the oil... i no what the oil is for BTW so dont say i think i may have sourced the problem i took my air flow meter off and guess what, muddy water has some how manged to seep in past the plastic welds so took the thing apart and just have a look... i also made i little video again and you can hear it popping through the airbox still and take alook at these readings.... for the people who no what it is ment to read they will no that this is bad http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nF0abjWwbu8 here is another one and its running just aswell as it has been in the last few days and on sunday, stinks of fuel but runns sort of ok just struggles to idle, but that exsactly how its been running even with the airflow meter on http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=_-xskY38CEw
  11. im not trying to over pressuries the fuel rail just got the FSI to getting it running at the correct pressure.... how is the KnN going to make the problem worse, all it does is increase the air flow from the standard filter????? well if i have got an electrical problem i didnt realy fancy jet washing my engine bay and covering it in water so just left it for the time been
  12. ok i dont no my self what the problem is, all i no is that its strugguling to idle and is back firing up the airbox which IMO is BAD!!!!!!! if you see the video it shows that it trys to stall when the airbox lid is taken off like i said i only got the FSI valve just so i could tweek it to the correct pressure which my old standard one wasnt doing, i havent bought it so i can over pressurise the fuel rail and damage my injectors, just so i no its at the factory settings
  13. hold it hold it hold it!!!!!!! first off the dizzy is NOT under any vacuum.... first off with having a 3inch snorkal attached to the side of the airbox its not going to have enough suck to suck throm my breathers, plus in the dizzy i have put another pipe in it which runs up inside my front windscreen pillor to the roof which fresh air is sucked in by from the air box.... in pipe in, one pipe out, no way can there be a vacuum in there..... and no i dont need to put pressure in the dizzy to keep water out, as i sealed the cap and whole unit up and have no problems keeping water out, its just i have proplems from condensasion build up inside it, hence the breathers
  14. i have a FSI boost vavle which i souly bought just to get my fuel pressure running at the correct 35psi, my old OME fuel pressure regulator was only running at 29psi.... my newer pressure reg has an imbuilt pressure gauge and i saw that it was running at 38psi, so dropped it down abit.... dont worry abot the air pipes off the air box, they are the breathers for the winch and a home made breather for the dizzy
