Everything related to independent Overland travel...
  1. Does the 300Tdi have a single Head Light indicator stalk like the photo below? The photo is from ebay which does look like but I was hoping to simply replace the light stalk rather than the full unit. Or does it have a single unit - also from ebay. My high beams are not staying on and I suspect it is the lever that is faulty as I no longer hear a click-to-engage sound and the high beams do turn on when keeping the lever pulled. I am hoping its a single unit rather than combined as I don't fancy taking the SRS steering wheel off! Thanks,
  2. Cold starts equal plenty of white smoke - enough to chase the dog away ( 3 bearing engine) and black smoke on normal driving conditions. The black smoke stinks a bit of oil but passes mot ok. On cold starts, the white smoke is bad at idle but a little throttle improves and stops the engine bouncing!
  3. Take a look at the following site which gives you the option of calculating different tyres and the % speed difference: http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg2.html My Series only has 205/70/16 So I can't even clear a muddy rut...
  4. my series was hand painted by the previous owner who bought the paint from Paddocks. The only issue I have is the toughness of the paint - it seems any little scatch, or sandy wash scratches the paint job. in my case, a hand paint job needs to be finished off somehow but I am clueless on how ;0
  5. My td4 had turbo hose leaks which was causing issues. Easier to diagnose with the huge smoke trial.
  6. mine has been hiding but comes out to play tomorrow at the AWDC drive-round near Bordon. Will send pics tomorrow eve.
  7. I have the same problem with my TD4 but as yet not investigated the reason why it's not working. The heated seats (Good LR mod) work well though...
  8. Are there any photos available from the last MT event?
  9. I am intrigued... what's the event about? The website gives very little away!
  10. Excellent time ahead for you! Keep the updates and photos coming as your sidekick progresses
  11. No credit to me but rather to my mate Andy. He modified a 200tdi (5-door) for his 1999-2000 overland trip . See link: Hujambo Images I took a few years ago only show the back as he had taken the roofrack off. The one good feature on the roof was the access into the tent via the front sunroof.
  12. I will be camping with my green Series III 88 softtop...
  13. One route addition which is absolutely outstanding is West (Central) route. Head through Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo, DR and Angola. The West route is also the cheapest and least populated so you end up bush camping 90% of the time. The road conditions vary from desert, bush, oil plantations, and jungles! Plenty to keep the adventure alive... This route to me, is the best - except for perhaps crossing Central Africa (Cameroon, CAR & DR)...
  14. yip -worth it. I had one on my series II but only worth it in a hot country where you can benefit from airflow.
