  1. but yes, its going back.
  2. locker plus axle deep mud pit plus lumps of granite underneath for it to shock load on plus 33" special tracks aired down to silly low psi means to be honest im not surprised.
  3. the cv in my other thread was britpart... and only 10 mins old too...
  4. only took me 10 mins of drive time from fitting it (new) too :-)
  5. ive never seen one break like this before....
  6. i think your right. infact im so sure ive just spent £300 at ashcrofts on a set of hd halfshafts. along with the raptor hd cv's, i should finally manage to me the front transmission last more than 10 mins....
  7. that doesnt entirely correlate with the information ive been goven both my a mate and one of my local suppliers. i will have a double check but im fairly sure some early defenders had 24 spline diff, 23 splne internal on the cv and 24 spline on the external output shaft of the cv.
  8. does anyone know the part number for the halfshafts to fit a 24 spline diff and these cv's http://www.paddockspares.com/aeu2522-cv-joint-23-24-spline.html ??? i know they exist but can i find them? thanks.
  9. i know a few of you guys are in cornwall and im struggling to find a co driver for my winch challenge truck. if youre up for it pm me, the next event is a 3dayer starting on the 12th august at 5pm although ill probably get there early afternoon. sat night there is a band and free food. camping on both nights is optional but reccommended. anyone up for it? ideally id like someone to commit to every month (mostly just on sundays) but ill take what i can get for the coming event. it should be a giggle!
  10. yeah i know i got lucky. time to invest in some spiral wrap to wrap the engine loom in, the annoying part is every loom ive modified ive spiral wrapped to keep it protected but i didnt bother with the engine loom because i ran it in the original location... my bad.
  11. so at my last event i broke both cv joints about 5mins into the day, but that is not what this is about... in the 2 hours it took me to winch the truck back to the pits, the stop solenoid stopped working. i wasnt surprised, i bought it in the days that i didnt know britpart where carp, infact its lasted 4 years..... i also developed a diesel leak, so when smoke started pouring into the cab and i switched off and got towed the last 100yds i figured when i saw the diesel leak that that was the reason for the smoke.. wrong. fast forward to today, i popped the bonnet fixed the fuel leak (damaged leak off pipe) and fired it up to see if it was sorted. very shortly after i started getting smoke from the back of the engine, followed very quickly by flames!!!!! i killed the engine flipped the battery cutoff but the fire didn't go out, a quick squirt from the msa required fire extinguisher and it was out. luckilly there wasnt any damage to anything but the engine loom. the stop solenoid wire had shorted to the battery feed which is why it stopped switching off on the key. i was lucky i reckon, but im gonna need a new wiring loom....
  12. but it shows me how bad my current car is comared to my last. 100% more expensive :-)
  13. this one then... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motorcycle-Car-Brake-Clutch-Bleeder-Bleed-One-Way-Valve-Tube-Tool-Kit-Set-/302004324070?hash=item4650dc46e6:g:qL4AAOSwwo1XegyC
  14. so go stick a big ass turbo on it, and then when the customer says its undrivable, just say i told you so. orrr, turn up the fueling and boost and give the turbo a cosmetic refurb. they'll never know the difference lol
  15. im posting this here because it seems to me that the people who read this section are most likely to have experience of raptor 4x4.. anyway, im going through cv joints in my challenge truck faster than is funny at the moment. seriously, 5 minutes of use and 2 brand spanking new cv's going pop is not funny. a few of the guys at the club have bought these... http://www.raptor4x4.co.uk/raptor-4x4-off-road-hd-front-halfshafts-land-rover-defender-from-300-tdi-discovery-300-tdi.html and they look promising but i dont want to spend a couple of hundred quid and then have to go the ashcroft route anyway so.. has anyone tried them? if so what kit are you running? im running lockers and 33" special tracks. many thanks.
  16. however their cv's seem to last better for me than genuine.... work that out...
  17. its ok, we're quite open minded on here.... but only if you post some pics of your car... its the rules!!
  18. ive just ordered the 40 draw unit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HOME-GARAGE-NAIL-SCREW-CRAFT-BITS-ORGANISER-MULTI-DRAWER-STORAGE-CABINET-UNIT/231473098675?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D35391%26meid%3D79d6906c18e4483892e84ff7dd073e01%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D371600084072 will let you know if its any good. but at £16 its half the price and bigger than the one in screwfix so gotta be worth a punt.
  19. i have never had any issues getting my money back via a cc chargeback. my barclaycard has been excellent in exactly your situation more than once.
  20. or if you want something that will work on anything ( except apparently the p38 but thats a oddity) try the autocom. bit more pricey but it can do just about anything, and the test function is useful, for instance my dads van had a aircon fault, last time he had this on a different van it was a broken wire stopping the cluch engaging, so first thing i did was put the autocom in aircon test mode it ran through all the tests and came back with no fault then i checked the fault codes and it came back aircon low pressure. had it regassed and all is ok. yes a elm or similar would have been ok, but a decent one has paid for itself many times over.
  21. it was definatly burning oil... and lots of it too.
  22. back in the day you used to see loads of smokey cars, cars where less reliable than have been in recent years, but this last couple of years ie seen them on the increase but ive never seen a late model landrover suffering... until today its a late 2008/ early 09. this is a still taken from my dashcam. if anything it looks better in the pic than in reality. at one point it filled a roundabout up like it was a thick peasoup fog...... shows what putting a transit engine in has done for the reliability...
  23. https://www.facebook.com/groups/4x4insurance/ ive been recommended these guys.
  24. i must say though i would have liked to see sabine do a lap with the gearbox in manual and the rest of the electronics on, i reckon most of that 6 or so seconds was the gearbox short-shifting....
