  4. 10p engines seem to come up for as little as £250, just grab a gearbox and ecu. Current gauges i would guess could be made to work with the speedo from transfer box and rev counter from the alternator.

I carry: 2 or 3m tree strop Tree Strop 4m Nylon rope (gives a bit of stretch to take shock out of any loads) Snatch Strap (although not used it but it came in a recovery bundle i got) Various D shackles Soft shackles (although not used these in anger yet) Snatch block Recovery ring thingy (fits over the nato hitch so a winch rope can be attached.   7. Well the latest addition has been collected. 100L 3hp compressor, it’s 10yr old but all works and seems to be in good condition. Hope it lasts for £110. Hasn’t seen much use as the guy had good intentions of using a blast cabinet etc but the only used it for inflating tyres etc. Got a few fittings with it but I need to get a tyre inflator etc retractable air line etc. Think I might set it up in my shipping container and run pipes from it, so the noise is away from me, and also haven’t got the workshop door yet. I will price up airline and see how much I’m likely to need. If not I will build a little store for it out the back of the workshop in time I mi

  9. Absolutely gutted, this was I feel the best site in the UK, so much to explore and changes every time you go there. Perfect for the Normal land rover with mud tyres and a winch, lots of routes and like a more extreme green laning, also if you couldn't get through somewhere you could always drive around another route to avoid it. I feel that it has been ruined by the likes of the Ultra 4 competitions etc, when you go there so see the ruts, bogs, and huge big stones spat out by the vehicles, trees flattened and pushed over or winched out the ground. The speed element certainly didn't help as people just push their way through things or winch of unsuitable anchor points. Granted this did open up more tracks for other to use after events, but would soon washout and leave permanent scars. Its a shame they aren't going to allow groups such as shire and j33p who run very well organised and marshalled events. Tyre limits would would help. Keep up the hard work you put in shires, you seem to be one of the most active clubs, its just a shame you guys are the other end of the country to me
  10. I tend to do as steve says. or pull it all out a dunk it in a big tub of water and and leave it to soak. Just remember dishwashers have spinning bits in them which could end up in a tangle
  11. Re-chassis Farm 90 and any other bits required to make it a reliable workhorse. Deadline July 2023 as that is when the Discovery MOT is due and its not likely to be worth putting through again. Reskin and paint the doors for my 90 which have been sat in the garage for 2 years. Sort a few jobs on the V8 Series and put it up for sale. Fit Diesel heater to my office. Finish workshop (roller shutter, water and electrics) Bit more fencing in the field Make a start on studio conversion/kitchen bathroom fitting if funds and time allow (highly unlikely this year) I think that will do, will have to start another thread for events and trip for 2024

  13. Wow those prices are eye watering, I think if I sold all of mine it still wouldn't make enough. Will be interesting to see what you do with it as you have so many projects

  16. Keep wetting it as well, well worth it, didn’t get any cracks in mine as wet it down for a few days after.
  17. The other thing it comes down to is, are you happy with a 200tdi? Does it do what you want and need it to? Can you live with it everyday or will you find situations where it will bug you and you think dam I wish I had put that x y or z engine in. 200 is simple and ticks a lot of boxes but isn't refined and is noisy, but then a lot of that might have been addressed with your ibex build such as sound proofing, discovery engine mounts etc. I keep thinking I want to change mine, as it is noisy but cant justify it for the amount I use it. Its ease of working on it and the fact it starts when I need it to, will do a full 800 mile weekender of 70mph on the motorway, thrash round a off road site for 2 days and get home again will do all that at 26-30mpg and can chuck some veg oil in when I am getting scared of diesel prices

Yep got the bench already, a great find on marketplace. 10ft x 3ft steel bench originally used for building and jigging kit car chassis, so weighs about 1ton at a guess all for about £70 i think it was. Had to lift it in with the manitou. It is one of the best bits, as i have struggled for many years without a proper workbench and vice, due to space in my old garage and now we have moved and i have built this workshop the possibilities are huge and I am using the work bench so much New workshop is approx 20ft x 20ft so 2 x 90s fit in side by side with room to work, but best moving one out for more space. I will be doing a chassis swap on a 90 soon so will be nice unbolting from 1 and then transferring to the other.
  19. What about a 300tdi? Its like a 200tdi but some say more civilised? That extra 100 in the name must count for something? Or go down the 300tdi stroked route to 2.8tdi? more scope for more power for towing???

Thanks Mike Yes one of these is on the list, I am a bit wary having smacked myself over the head with a panard rod which pinged out of a neighbours press while i was changing bushes. 8 stiches on the forehead later i was lucky it didnt take my eye out. An engine crane is also on the list, although i may stick a beam across and use a block and tackle to save on floor space. Just waiting for a roller shutter door to go on the shed then i can lock things away safely
  21. Yes this is what I have already and I don't know how i ever lived without it. The best £35 i have spent.

Well lots to think about, might well go for a small air compressor as I use my makita for most things so the rest of the time it would be for blowing up tyres and blowing stuff out etc. Paint would be nice but maybe a bit down the line and may have to rethink the setup. welder may well be a 2nd hand to have a play with.
  23. I am looking at a compressor for my workshop. It’s use will vary and sometime very infrequent use: Mainly uses: Tyre inflation Air line for blowing stuff out Air tools (although battery rattle gun does most the work) Paint gun - I want be able to have the capacity to spray, things like chassis and then eventually body work. what size do I need for this CFM and also reservoir size? Have seen Hyundai do silenced and oil free compressors are they worth a look? welder - i can’t weld at the moment but want to learn, Land Rover bits and then a agricultural muck trailer I will need to repair in a few years. I am likely to buy second hand but what would be a good model to look at? Thanks
  24. I can't remember what I used in my rebuild on my 90 it was drum brake many moons ago then swapped to a few different rear axles over last few decades. It used to lock up on the rear before the front which was a bit hairy on corners. During rebuild either the balanced value got shaken around and freed up, or it is the defender td5 master cylinder and servo that i put on it that has sorted out the brake balance and also made the brakes so much easier to press. Very happy with the brakes now. Defender 110/130 vented fronts and discovery rear brakes
  25. I have briefly looked into this but not fully in depth. As I will be purchasing a tractor for our paddock when funds allow. Thing I have picked up or learnt for implements etc is that you might want one with 'live drive' i think it is called, basically means to can engage and disengage the PTO, the T20's do not have this so the PTO constantly spins, so you have to turn tractor off or implements continue turning, so if you want to sort anything out without loosing a limb etc. The newer Fergy 35 had this function
