  1. As stated in another post, the truck is going, I've purchased a Shogun instead (dont all shout at me at once!). I'd just like to say thanks to you all for all the top answers to all my non-mechanically-minded questions in the past two years, particularly to Ralph and one or two others. Many thanks guys - may you be up to your necks in mud for many years to come! Regards, Graham.
  2. Definitely for sale......07900 414171 if interested.
  3. Guys, Can those of you who know more than I ping me with an idea of how much to ask for the truck, which I have decided to sell. Its a 1989 110, 3.5v8 with an lpg conversion (2 x 40 litre underslungs tanks). Mods..... Front seats are out of 2007 model, new middle seats from exmoor, and new bench seats. Heavy duty mats all round. 4 new insa turno dakars with wheels (cost about 400 quid), rear work lamps, 100w spots on a-bar on front, radio/cd/sd card, rear speakers...... 3 12-v power points on dash, 3 12-v power points in rear cab (ace for running the fridge!) expensive led stop/tail lights. Rear points run of second split-charge marine battery, which charges when vehicle is running. Some nice internal carling switches and new side steps. Recent 8 replacement pistons! (dont even ask how much it cost!) Mot'd may next year, 6 months tax..... Any clues appreciated.
  4. Got the old girl back following a bit of a strip-down and rebuild, including 8 new pistons. Since then, she runs fine on LPG, idling nicely around 1000 rpm. But on petrol, when you stop for any reason and dip the clutch, the engine slowly gathers speed till it is idling at around 3200 rpm. Which sounds great!, but it's not right and it's thirsty enough without it doing that!! Any clues chaps?
  5. It's a kind of supplementary tyre pressure question - what should i be running with for best road performance / fuel economy etc. I note that the wheel arches have decal numbers above them which read 30 for the front and 48 at the rear.........
  6. She is back :D :D :D :D Been off the road 3 weeks, 8 new pistons and gawd alone knows what else    Lord alone knows what the bill will be :( :( :( And complete with a fresh MOT ! ! :) :) :) Going out for a blast now, updates later !!!!! :) :) :)
  7. Went to garage, saw octopistonlets........that's 8 shiny new pistons to you and I. Forecast is that she will be back with me by Wednesday, hopefully with a new MOT too. So that is definitely brighter. And I have invented a new word. So a good day all round! :D :D :D :D
  8. Paying visit tomorrow to the garage - hopefully brighter news to follow
  9. And still she is not returned to use.. :(
  10. Managed to burn 4 litres of Castrol's finest in about 200 miles......and she was sounding as rough as a chain-smoking dawg......so took her to the menders....and the news is not good. At 134,500 miles...there is a chunk out of one of the pistons resulting in no compression in cylinder 7 and cylinder 6 (at least i think it was 6). The old girl is currently in bits awaiting a full new set of cylinders and a general rebuild. Should get it back by the end of the week tho, at fantasmagorical cost . On the upside, at least I will get 33% more power than running on six cylinders, and should use less oil, and maybe even a little less fuel . On the downside, the completely-packed ready-to-roll-for-the-family-camping-weekend trailer (which I had spent about a day fixing and making ready-to-roll) had to be emptied out and re-packed into the XJ6..... Hey ho.
  11. Come over Barton high level bridge heading clockwise and off at Eccles, follow signpost to A57 eccles, after about a mile and a 1/4 its on the right, just past the traffic lights at the Dog & Partridge. Open till 6pm and saturday mornings. You can get gas 24/7 if you have an account (you get a card that works the gas pump, but you have to buy £100 quids worth of gas at a time). 12. Extra Gas in Eccles is where I get mine...........
  13. Around 120 - 135 on mixed driving........best ever is 174.......last night it was on 169 when it sputtered to death. oh. and I pay 46p per litre in Eccles. Fixed problem - wire was off the fuel solenoid. sheesh!!!
