  1. sounds like something is drawing excessive current to me. best check all the earth points
  2. cheers for that, i tend to only use the petrol for start up, 99% of the time it's on LPG.
  3. I need to check my ignition timing this weekend on the 3.5 efi (hotwire). It's been behaving strangely for about a week now, so i have ordered an inductive pickup timing light ready for the job. The plugs are NGK (I won't use anything else), gap has been narrowed to ignite the gas better, new cap, arm and leads were all fitted when i did the head gaskets (2 months ago) and are all in good condition. She has been idling lumpy, when started it revs up to about 1600rpm before settling back to a rather lumpier than normal tickover. When it switches to gas it runs just as well as on petrol, similar symptoms though, lumpy tickover, and it also tends to hover at about 1500rpm for a few seconds before returning to about 900-950rpm. So, i will check the timing this weekend just to make sure it's all ok, so, does anyone know what the timing should be on a 3.5 on gas (it's the 9.35:1 CR engine too)? I have been told anything from 6 to 12 deg should be fine, but wanted to consult the guru's before commiting to something that's going to break my engine..... cheers all
  4. Pearl components list it as a PEWP01 if that's any help (Defender upto 1990)
  5. ahhh....ok i'll go back to sleep..
  6. Anyone going next weekend? http://www.landroverworld.co.uk/lrwshow07/index.php
  7. keep going guys - best of luck to all of you, especially after the mammoth build that has taken place. will there be a HOFS Ladoga 2008 DVD afterwards?
  8. i bow to your superior knowledge o wise one would never have thought that the f/lander was as long as a RRC - you learn something new everyday
  9. wheelbase could be an issue, as the f/lander is shorter than the disco - unless you lengthen the freelander body to cope of course
  10. have used black gaffa tape on the alpines on my D1, not leaked yet just got to stop the top of my windscreen from leaking now......
  11. would this feed it? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...52BSI%26otn%3D4 :)
  12. there is a lot of info on tuning the 200/300's with the old style throttle control (ie cable not wire) IIRC it involves altering the pump timing slightly and tweeking the rod on the turbo wastegate, as well as adjusting the smoke screws in the back of the pump. it is in the tech archive i do believe
  13. have fitted 2 bearmach cv's now to both my disco's, not had a problem yet.....
  14. what about converting an old gas cylinder into another reservoir, so that you then have a main tank to feed off whilst the compressor refills the supply tank?
  15. first thing, as already mentioned, is where did you buy it from? if it's from any type of dealer/trader, then head straight back there with it and make a fuss for your money back, or for them to pay for the required parts to be refitted. if it was a private sale then it could be a bit more difficult, if it's good old ebay, then start reading the terms and conditions, and the advert. if it states in there that everything works fine, then you have a good case for getting some cash back. do all this before you go spending money on parts.
  16. will there be jelly and ice cream???
  17. keep it and recon it - IIRC arn't 200tdi heads rare as the proverbial now??
  18. both times that i have had this problem on my disco, it's been the cv joint cage that has self destructed.
  19. that would explain the lack of it on my old 200tdi then - did not get warm enough to warrant it
  20. mine dribbles down the back of the block somewhere, runs down the box and onto the floor. I think the valley gasket may have been slightly twisted when it was replaced after doing the head gaskets. it was initially leaking from one of the bolts that holds the manifold down.
  21. give A.H.Fabrications a shout in Hereford, not to far away. http://www.ahfabrications.com/
  22. what about a bonnet pin kind of arrangement? or even a large bolt and repair washer, with a hole drilled in the end of the bolt for an over centre pin to fit through.
  23. 1.16 - 1.46kg according to Rave, then apply loctite 270 and refit top bolts to 78nM HTH
  24. i got the same response when i placed an order before xmas!!!
