  1. auto box fluid running low maybe? not sure on slush boxes as i personally don't like them - but that's me.....
  2. if your're heading Hereford way for a session, give me a shout on here, would like to tag along if you don't mind. (as long as my busy schedule allows me of course)
  3. don't they advertise in LRO magazine? if so they look like a darn good company to me, even offer a courtesy car while yours is being treated, along with collection service too IIRC. if i had the cash then i would have my disco done (after having all the rusty bits repaired of course)
  4. I have a curious water leak on my V8 disco..... It looks like there is water seeping from the inlet manifold bolt just behind the distributor, it's more annoying than anything as the water level needs topping up every couple of days. my first thought is to bung a rad weld in to sort it out, or is it likely to be something more serious. will be a PITA if it is, as i have not long had the heads off to change the gaskets. could it just need tightening down some more? any suggestions would be most welcome (as long as it doesn't involve spending large chunks of cash )
  5. this guys serpentine belt came off on the freeway in america - caused a lot of mess, and he was late for work too
  6. surely a pressure test would pinpoint any cracks
  7. does anyone know if disco 1 doors will fit a RR classic?
  8. clean and refit would be my vote on this too. maybe worth considering a new crank seal just in case and a cambelt change while the pulley is already removed?
  9. cheers for the pointers all. it's more of a "chuff-chuff" noise as it's cranking than a "pop pop". valves appear to be in good order, as they are moving up and down with the rockers ok. will try to get hold of a compression tester for the weekend i think
  10. basically yes, the R is for resistor. the ones you have bought should be fine.... just as a point of interest, NGK now do some specifically designed for LPG installations, BPR6EIX-LPG, the only downside is the cost - approx £10 per plug plus VAT!!!!
  11. we had it cranking for a good 5 mins, it was trying to fire, but still making the same noise as before. if i can i will try to get a vid with some sound, may make it easier to diagnose.
  12. new lift pump was fitted middle of last year, plenty of fuel getting through the pipes as well.
  13. a friend of mine has a 1986 defender 90 with the N/A diesel lump in it. anyway, after one of the pistons decided to part company with half it's skirt last year, it was rebuilt with new head, pistons, valves, rings etc (we didn't know about the 200tdi transplant route until 6 months later d'oh). all was running fine for about 9 months (apart from an issue with the cooling, gauge showing hot, but not boiling/pressurising or anything head gasket related as far as we could tell), until last November when it started to lose power then stopped completely. I towed it back to his, where it has sat since, (he works away most of the time, so not been able to check it out properly till now) we had a look over the weekend, and this is what we found; when it is cranked there is a very significant sucking noise through the air filter (could be blowing, didn't really check) valve clearances have been checked, and they appear to be fine sump has been removed to check underneath, nothing obvious under there, no lumps of metal in the sump injectors have been changed for new ones (faulty injector was suggested by a local diesel mechanic who has 35+ years experience with diesels) but with no apparent difference noted now when it is cranks, it tries to start, black smoke is visible from the exhaust, and it will just about run, but not on it's own for long. we are going to check the timing this weekend coming to see if it has jumped at all, (anyone know what size the crank pulley bolt is?) and to change the belt as a matter of course. are there any other areas we should be investigating before we go as far as whipping the head off? all help muchly appreciated on this one, as he needs his truck back on the road for next week. cheers all
  14. can you remove the oil jet, move the piston as far down the bore as possible then get the gudgeon pin out? if you can do that, then you may end up with enough clearance to remove the rod through the top.
  15. no one on here would ever dream of doing such an irresponsible thing
  16. Anyone travelled the A4103 to Hereford from Worcester by Fromes Hill, or the Worcester to Kidderminster Road (IIRC) will have seen these, they are quite freaky on a clear night as you can see the road snaking away across the hills IIRC the guy who invented them is now a mutli millionaire as they have been sold to various countries around the world.
  17. what about a pond shop? they would sell stuff that joins the butyl rubber pond liners together. would that do the job? or http://www.screwfix.com/prods/72438/Sealan...ape-225mm-x-10m it's also in 150mm and 100mm widths too.
  18. ok, i think i will forget that idea from the sound of it
  19. not many places do 80/90 these days, seems to be being replaced by 75/90 as its more universal
  20. Hi all, I am planning to change all the transmission fluids on the v8 this weekend, i am getting conflicting details from different sources??? the axles are easy 75/90 in them, transfer box is listed as being 75/90 as well, gearbox is a different story though, i have one saying ATF dex 3, and one saying 75/90??? it's a 1990 3.5 v8 disco BTW with a manual 'box, have had a check with Rave, although it's a bit lacking in the series 1 fluids.. cheers
  21. I quite like the modern look of the Disco II wiper arms, anyone know if they will fit a Disco I??
  22. both the application books i have here state that the TD4 uses 5w/30 - same stuff as Ford's use (makes sense really) - which should be around the £15 mark at a Factors.
  23. you could always try; http://www.intermotor.co.uk/prod_cat.asp online catalogue
  24. is that like a black sticky substance on a roll that is separated by brown paper type stuff? my dad used to use it when sealing the joints between a roof and a wall, IIRC it was similar to lead flashing, and i think he used to get it from Jewson's. you can heat it up with a blow gun and it goes stickier.....is that the stuff?? isn't Radon a gas given off by granite???
  25. you could possibly reuse the head gasket, as it has only been torqued down, and not run.
