  1. We did it but didn't bother getting insurance! Just make sure you don't crash... I'm sure that once you're there it will be possible to approach a broker face to face and at least get 3rd party cover. cheers, Tom
  2. For South America / other similar places, you'll find it almost impossible to get insurance for anything more than 3rd party - fully comp will cost you thousands of pounds if organized in the uk. In each country you visit you can easily get cheap 3rd party cover and in some countries it is mandatory. Its difficult to find more than 3rd party cover with a foreign vehicle though. Best to get as much security (deadlocks) as possible and always park in a guarded car park (easy to find, plentiful, cheap and surprisingly trustworthy). cheers, Tom
  3. in the 'good old days' of I.T. I used to have a Cerbera. After a drive during which the exhaust 4 into 1 on one side cracked, I parked it in the garage and started to walk away but noticed some flames licking out of the bonnet vents - I peered in (carefully!) and saw that the fibreglass below the drivers footwell was on fire from the heat of the cracked exhaust! Lucky I had a powder extinguisher in there - always useful in a plaggy car - and put it out pretty easily... as for landys, when camping and cooking with petrol cookers its essential to have some thing to put out the resultant accidents! Tom
  4. Hello, Could anybody let me know the part number for the leg extensions that connect the bottom stumpy legs of the 70/30 split rear seats to the floor of the cab? They are in my mates Td5 crew cab 110 too but are shorter than I would need as my Td5 130 crew cab has a flat floor under the rear seat. thanks in advance... Tom
  5. I'm a bit of both but it'd have to be a damn good deal to tempt me away from Zurich! Does it include use of your moglite machine?! ...and plenty of time off to go to S.America of course! Tom
  6. URAL 6x6 , the thing that plowed through the rivers on 'Long Way Round' - he'll take < 10,000 euros - a mate actually considered buying it until he realised how bad the fuel consumption was (35L/100kms)! Tom
  7. Update - Poor Barry set off from Zurich to UK yesterday afternoon - got to somewhere like Toule in France and the engine stopped - not sure what it is, could be timing belt. His phone is out of power and credit! Lucky the roof tent is still on there.... Hope he can join the RAC quick! Tom
  8. utterly awesome stuff! B) Tom
  9. Took out the plunger of the solenoid valve and it fired up instantly! Thought it couldn't be that as fuel was still getting through to the injectors.. Even had a spare lying around in the back so everything fixed. thanks for all the suggestions.... Tom
  10. When it was being towed with the injector pipe connectors loose there was fuel leaking out so I presume it reached there at least. The lift pump seems to work as I pumped it manually to bleed the system through to the pump. Its got 20L of fresh diesel in it and maybe had 10L of old diesel before. Next step is to pull out the injectors and try and see if they squirt when motor is being turned over... pretty frustrating though! it got towed round the block about 10 times last night in the rain! Tom
  11. Was looking in vain for a Maxi Drive website as a mate of mine is down there now and I was thinking of trying to get him to bring some shafts back.... Anyway - I stumbled upon this:- Maxi Drive For Sale... Is this for real or has it already been sold? Got a million Oz$ ?? B) Tom
  12. Mines a 1999 model 130 and has absolutely no problems, its not been chipped and the 'cooler is bog standard. I read somewhere about a bolt dropping out of the oil pump drive due to lack of loctite when fitted in the factory but these probs would have come up on early engines by now anyway. There are plenty of Td5s in europe that have well over 200000kms on the clock and are still going strong. My landy weighs 3.2 tons and can still do 130kmh easily on the motorway and climb hills in 4th that my old landy would do in 2nd....! B) I think the Td5 has proved itself to be an excellent engine. cheers, Tom
  13. FoamingYak has one of these in a particularly vile brush painted green.... http://www.roamingyak.org/templates/contact/mail.html It has w'proof fuseboy, dash etc, awesome connectors for the wiper switches too... cheers, Tom
  14. I'll probably get into huge trouble for this but.... theres loads of roads like that, or more deserty, more muddy, more jungle, more mountains in South America - if you want to come and see them and drive them then I can make it possible - and its not that expensive.... cheers, Tom
  15. In fact, taking part in the events with stickers/t-shirt all over the place would mean that the mags would probably not be printing many pics in the event write up! As everyone has already said, support the small innovative businesses like x-eng. Look how Ashcrofts have grown for example - good products and good service always pays off in the end. cheers, Tom
  16. whole thread of 11 pages of madness is here and thumbnails halfway down this page 10:- http://www.landrovernet.com/forum/showthre...t=32741&page=10
  17. In Peru - 4 blokes and a bloody heavy raft and thats on top of the roof tent, hi-lift, waffles and spare tyre! It handled a bit like the raft did too! One of the guys on the roof was very pleased to get down! Tom
  18. I was told that the swiss dealers made the TR's from kits of the bits, like the toy roll cage and stuff. A mate got a big slating on another forum cos he converted his 110 TR into a pop top camper, people were saying that its a rare historic vehicle etc...
  19. I suspect it will involve the Alps though....?? Tom
  20. Best name is already taken! A couple of mates are trying to get a China tour off the ground - letsgoexplore.com - they had a hell of a lot of possible names to wade through.... Good luck anyway! We'll be announcing a new kind of ihana tour in Peru soon, will be a lot cheaper and in our own vehicles, they'll be Toyotas though! Heres a pic of one of the main roads in the jungley part of Peru from a couple of weeks ago, its landslide season at the moment, the roads are getting blocked every 50kms or so. Luckily they're unblocked pretty efficiently. This big rock was the size of a 90 and the giant bulldozer couldn't move it alone, had to do it in tandem with the other one! Tom
  21. Try another shipping agent, otherwise don't bother with the insurance if you'll be at both ends when the box is sealed/unsealed. The chances of it falling into the sea are pretty remote... Or better still, drive it back and have an adventure! B) Tom
  22. £1300 is surely the price for the whole shipping one-way port to port isn't it? if not then it should be! Added :- And just heard that there were between 200 and 250 Tomb Raiders imported into CH. cheers, Tom
  23. 20,000 X 0.01 = £200 ...not a difficult calculation!
