  1. Just fitted a second hand engine to my Diesel P38 2.5 which came minus the fuel pump. I do not know if the engine was turned while the pump was removed and need to check that the fuel pump sprocket is in the correct position. I can not find this info in the manual and wondered if anyone can enlighten me please. Many Thanks.
  2. Sorry, Both engines are 3.9 Hotwire but cracked block engine is serpentine type. Just want to swap crank and other ftont end parts to make the other engine a serpentine.
  3. I am sure that this question has probably been asked before but here goes. I have a 1998 Disco V8 GS with a cracked block(Serpentine type). I have another V8 engine which is NOT a Serpentine engine. Is it possible to swap the crank etc from the Serpentine into the other block to effectively make it a Serpentine? I am going to Check/replace the mains and Big Ends in the other engine anyway and replace the cam for a TorqueMax so it will not be a major headache. Any help appreciated.
  4. Just started my Landrover 3.9 (1995) Disco, which has not been started for a month or 2. Battery was completely flat. I jump started it and it went on the button and ran fine but the cooling fan was running. I thought that I must have left the aircon on last time I used it but this was not the case. When i turned it off the fan continued so i disconnected the battery. It was not hot enough for the fan to come on, in fact it was still quite cold so the fan should not have been on at all as far as I am concerned. Is this a common fault?
  5. I am currently useing GM 10-40w semi synthetic oil. Is there a specific oil filter I should use? I think the one on it is a coopers filter. Is it critical to fit a genuine one? thanks for the reply.
  6. I know this may sound ridiculous( it does sound ridiculous) but check the bulbs fitted to the brake lights at the rear are the correct type ie double pole or single pole. A customer once bought a car into me and said that he could take the key out the ignition and it still kept running perfectly as long as he kept his foot on the brake. He was right and I found a single pole bulb fitted where a double pole bulb should have been.
  7. I have a 96 v8i auto Discovery 3.9 which starts and runs great with loads of power and very clean engine internally BUT (and theres always a but) on initial start and subsequent starts after about 1 hour standing, the hydraulic tappets rattle for a few seconds and then are perfectly silent. As I say, on the whole the engine runs very very sweet and I cant fault it. I can understand 1 tappet rattling or maybe 2 but its the whole lot rattling. I thought it could poss be oil pump but the oil pressure is good and even so the oil should not drain back out of the tappets, so i was wondering if anyone knows if there is a non return valve in the oilway in the engine. I have looked at the engine in the manual and cant see one or it is not shown. Any ideas? I was thinking about changing the cam over winter for one with a bit more torque and then also the oil pump anyway. Any help greatly appreciated,
  8. Does anyone have a vacuum unit for sale? Desperate for one but will try dealer tomorrow. Thanks
  9. Thanks Guys. I don't go off road so it should be fine. mainly used for towing.
  10. Are you sure its not propshaft related ie uj's or drive coupling?
  11. On the front panel of my Discovery ( 96 V8 Auto ) I have a sticker either side that says STC 3435 Grease has been applied to the swivel housing. What is this and what is the maintenance for the swivel housings if this grease is in them. Also, can someone tell me what size the wheel nuts are as my brace is missing and we are away on Friday. Many thanks.
  12. It's ok thanks. i found it here on the pdf manual.http://www.aeb.it/products/feedback-systems/leonardo
  13. When you change the glow plugs, make sure the engine is warm. When the engine is cold, everything contracts and tightens up. You can test them in place with an ammeter. Just connect the ammeter in line (ie put the red wire from ammeter to batt + and with the black wire from ameter, touch the top of the glow plug) Be careful you dont short it out though. A working glow plug will pull about 20 amps. that way you dont need to take them out to see them glow or get hot. Good luck.
  14. Your manual will probably say if its a 4HP-22. Look at the gearbox sump. Is it held on by 6 bolts, 1 at each corner and 1 either side in the middle? If yes then very possible its the box in question. Anyway, an oil change is easy and there's nothing to be afraid of. Make sure you get the right oil, a new sump gasket and a filter and "O" ring. 1, Drain the sump 2, remove the sump ( oil will drip all the time the sump is off) 3, with a torx driver remove the filter( more oil will come out) 4, fit the new filter and O ring ( don't over tighten) 5, wash the sump pan 6, fit the new gasket and pan ( almost impossible to over tighten) 7, put some oil back in and run the engine. Check its selecting gears. Run the selector through all the gears with the engine running and dip the trans fluid level. Top up as neccessary. Run through the gears before checking the level every time ( this makes sure the valve block is full). DO NOT overfill it, it will have the same effect as under- filling it. The marks on the dipstick are for hot and cold trans. Refer to your manual. Oh yes, remember to put the sump plug back in. Make sure your kickdown cable is also adjusted properly.
