  1. Nige has been recoverying from an operation so may just need a bit more patience than normal, I'm certain he'll help you out when he's able.

Good luck with this though, you've been at it for almost as long as I had and I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

  2. Matt's Off-road Recovery seem like the biggest load of cowboys going.

The lack of forethought, risk assessment or basic care about things even novices have drilled into them from day one is just alarming. I cannot believe they've not injured anyone yet. Stupid stuff like applying the handbrake before putting a rolled vehicle back on its wheels, not walking over a rope or hanging out downhill of vehicles being recovered.

I like Donut (or used to) but hearing the way they talk about MOR seems so wrong to anyone that has half a clue.

Oh yeah, the camper seemed pants too and they knew it.

  3. Yes, the recommendation is a tyre be used no longer than 5 years. Storage, exposure to UV, usage, environment etc all factor in this being shorter or longer in reality.

Those look dry rotted to me.

You will find a DOT code moulded into the sidewall somewhere, that will tell you the date of manufacture.

  4. I get the impression from the US that as long as you have the VIN plate, you can do practically anything you want to the rest of it. That seems to be the market they're aiming for.

Still, to use parts of a Rover live axle to make fully indepedent suspension all round, and that propshaft jiggery is really something. I only wish the camera had picked up more of what they were talking about at the same time they were looking at it.

  5. I really appreciate the offers (and I do mean that) but I know from previous experience that sitting in as passenger when I don't have a working vehicle only makes me more frustrated with the fact I'm not driving mine.

I've arranged to go camping about 15 miles from here, so we'll see how it does for that at least.

I hope you all have a great time. Please share photos for those who didn't make it.

  6. Extremely sad to say I'm not going to make it. Some will know I've been working to get ready for months but it still has issues (including some new ones). I'm just not confident to drive it so far, run it and come back. I'm not really enjoying owning it any more.

I'm going to use it locally to see if anything comes of some issues (booked into a garage for others) and work out what to do next.

I was looking to cancel as I thought I was all booked up but looks like it didn't go through... Just the camping.

Huge shame as I was looking forward to meeting so many of you.

SteveG is spot on, every time I've sold a vehicle the #1 thing is as many good clear pictures as possible so people can see exactly what they're buying - even the bad bits, because it shows them exactly how much work they're in for and that you're not hiding stuff.

It's risk. Remove as many unknowns as possible for a buyer by letting them see what they're getting, and they will feel they are putting their money at less risk.

It has been hurting me for a number of years and feel very guilty letting it get that far.

It will sound cheesy but moving it on to someone who can spare the time/cash/energy is the next best thing to doing it yourself. Much worse to let it rot further.

No point feeling guilty about something you can't change.

Anyone else want uninvited opinion while I'm at it?

I have the same issue in my GLE, turns out the back seat does fold flat if you take out the bottom cushion of the rear seat. Maybe something similar can be done in the Grenadier?

    It's a faff though...

I thought that when Harry lifted them to look at the batteries but I think the seat backs are too long to fit in the void created. I'm sure Jeremy can confirm.

I find it a bit off that Harry gets two bites at it with two reviews that say largely the same things. It's the same themes that came up in Jonny Smith's review, but said twice more.
