  1. I put mine up to off-road hight about 4hrs ago and it's still up high...... It's very irritating! Craddock sell a conversion kit for £60-odd; while I'd like to keep it standard, it's becoming a bit of a pain
  2. Disco 2 facelift, 2002, 7 seat. I've done a search of the forum, but didn't find an answer to my problem. I'm having trouble with my air springs. Both have been replaced, the last one about 2 years ago. They are not leaking - I can pump up the suspension and they stay up for days. The problem is that the suspension goes down, on both sides, often just after parking. They will go up on driving, usually but not always. I can raise the suspension to off road hight without any problem and quickly. Is it worth dispensing with the air springs and go to coil spring conversion? Do you need to reprogram the ECU in some way?
  3. As a final chapter for my part, the starter motor was replaced - the fact that it didn't turn over or if it did, it made a horrible sound was a bit of a give away. When I asked why it was turning over but not starting at the beginning of this saga, the garage man said that the starter motor was turning but it wasn't turning over the actual engine very well.......internal clutch? I dunno, the last starter motor I fiddled with was a Lucas with a bendix, about 40yrs ago........
  4. The starter motor is now definitely shot. But why didn't the engine start when it did turn it over?
  5. This morning it started reasonably easily from cold and then again when barely warm. 2 hrs later and it wouldn't start at all and I flattened the battery. This hit and miss affair, and starting from cold one time and not another is irritating and I now doubt the glow plugs as suspect. The turning of the ignition off and on did nothing.
  6. My apologies to the OP, MudMagnet; the issues seemed so similar, I thought I'd join the thread. I've heard elsewhere that the three boings after difficulty with starting may be the default response of the immobiliser. I'll still think about glow plugs at this stage - one tip was to turn the ignition on, wait, turn off, turn on again, and do that a couple of times - a significant improvement in starting would suggest the plugs (one or more) are on their way out.
  7. Ok, Thanks, I'll try and look at that - but what's with the three boings?
  8. Bump. Slow to start first thing, and then with the engine barely warm, it took 6 attempts to get it going 15 mins later.... p.s. Sorry to hijack the OP's thread!
  9. I have the same problem: Disco 2, formerly started the instant of turning the key, now needs to turn over lots, and won't start without throttle. When it does eventually start, I get the three warning boings, but no lights on the dash. It makes no difference if the engine is hot or cold (ruling out glow plugs?). It seems to be getting worse. I thought it might have been dodgy fuel because it coincided with filling up the tank (it was empty enough to put the warning light on - stirred up tank sediment?), however, why would this give the three boings? The starter motor spins it over very well and fast (and a new battery a few months ago), so probably not battery earth/connections? What's MAFF?
  10. Thanks! and found lots of data here: http://www.landroverclubvi.com/abs-mod.html
  11. I have the above error - anybody with any experience? What is a shuttle valve, anyway......
  12. Except that, putting a load in the back, doesn't cause the suspension to pump up. Also, the off road button doesn't pump it up either, just three boings and the light goes out
  13. I have a HawkEye diagnostic, what do I look for?
  14. A couple of years ago I had to change a leaking air spring and the forum was very helpful in the process, and generated much discussion on ways of getting the spring pumped up again: the only thing missing was a suggestion to dance round the car naked by the light of a full moon. Eventually, just driving around the block did it. Now, I'm having a similar problem without the leak. When parked on the flat, the suspension stays up for ever. However, when parking on a severe camber, the suspension will go right down to the bump stop, usually on the passenger side. When loading the back (e.g. a car full of boxes of tiles), the suspension does not compensate and will be right down. Driving slowly and carefully, it will eventually pump up. So nothing, terminal or dramatic here, just a little irritating; any clues?
  15. Thanks! I think........... Looked up Rave, but couldn't see a reference to SLABS ECU; is it an acronym for something? Where is it? You never know, I might just have dirty connections, if I'm lucky...... Nothing else happens when I'm driving, just the three bongs and the (wrong) three lights.......
  16. I managed to read the fault: No. 3129, "Road Speed Missing fault logged". What does it mean? A search through past posts both here and elsewhere haven't given me any clues - this fault seems to be just one of a number in other's experience.
  17. But if I just plug it in with the ignition on? and then still just press the OK key when it asks to turn on ignition?
  18. The HDC light does come on. I read some where that minor fault codes could disappear? I'll wait until it happens again and put the Hawkeye on while the lights are still lit?
  19. Sorry , Disco 2, 2002, facelift model. Battery starts the car easy enough.........
  20. Increasingly I'm getting the three bongs and the following lights: Handbrake, TC and ABS. They go off after switching off the engine and restarting, until the next random time. I have a Hawkeye diagnostic, but it shows no DTC faults logged. Any clues from among the cognoscenti?
  21. Thanks, I'll try again. Can't believe Craddocks - buy a new quarter bumper just for the sake of 4 of these clips!
  22. I recently loosened the rear quarter bumper trim, and removing it broke the remaining clips. I can't seem to find them anywhere and Craddocks tell me they only come with a new bumper trim! They work on the same principle as the rear door trim clips, a double slotted sort of head that fits in a key way in the trim part. They are removable and should be replaceable??? Where might I get some?

    ABS fault

Thank you very much and I'll bear that in mind. I have a Hawkeye on order so hopefully, something will be revealed

    ABS fault

I'd like to read the fault codes, but I don't know how. I have gone through the FAQ, searched the net on ABS fault codes, Blink test, Paperclip test, discovery ABS fault codes, you name it I've tried it - All I get is a circular route where posters just say 'Google discovery ABS codes/blink test/etc' but I never find the original instructions. I got the impression from some posts that Disco II's cant use the blink test anyway........ Must I buy a Nanocom or a ABS Amigo V1 USB : http://www.rswsolutions.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=56&Itemid=55

    ABS fault

To update, the fault seems to have gone away. ABS light goes out with the others (not at 5mph). TC worked this evening, going over a kerb......... I hate intermittent faults; never there when you try to track them down only to reappear at inconvenient moments.
