  1. Its a 9.35:1 engine, and with the procharger c-1 running a 6" crank pulley and a 3" charger pulley its giving only 2 - 3 psi of boost, it has livened it up abit.... Those pulley sizes were given by procharger tech support for this engine as a safe start. Naturally 2 psi dont really need a ton of fuel or afew degrees of ign retard. Its running the 28 degrees advance. 12.5:1 afr under boost. Standard flapper injectors (with resistor pack) I have got some 3" aluminium round bar off ebay to make 2 more pulleys for the charger. One will be 2.5" the other will be somewhere between 2.5" - 3" I have a 3.9 inlet manifold and fuel rail, while the 3.9 injectors are not much bigger i understand they are more of a "standard" fit. So i can fit all that and easily source some high impedance big injectors that will fit, and do away with the flapper resistor pack. As for megasquirt vs omex vs any other engine management. Megasquirt has been submerged, iv cleaned mud off it, its never gone wrong, and if it did i could find the info and buy the parts to repair it because its open source. One of my interests is programming pic chips, so im wondering how long it will be before i decide to doctor megasquirt to do something different.... Its opensource so i can : ) i dont know enough yet to do it like. Professionals mite slate megasquirt, but the guys who wrote the code and designed the board for megasquirt know more then most professionals who fit other management systems. With megasquirt.... If you desire it create it yourself. + by next week i will be logging megasquirt with my android phone / motorola xoom tablet hopefully.
  2. Supercharger = Procharger C-1 Blow off valve = Bailey recirculating dump valve (demon tweeks) Metal plates are figured out by me with some card then scanned at a laser cutting place. The one that bolts to the charger its self I drew on cad then exported to DXF Silicone hose elbows EBAY Brake check valve (stops boost entering your brake servo) EBAY from a turbo saab. Water cooled intercooler was a used item from a friend. but they are available from http://www.chargecooler.co.uk Crank pulley from a 300tdi I think, but bored out and a Megasquirt / EDIS / Rover V8 crank spacer welded into the middle of it to get the stud patten. Boring out the 300tdi pulley The spacer on the back is just afew bits of tube that I turned so it was a close fit against each other then got welded while bolted to the pulley and another RV8 crank spacer.
  3. Yes a place in the alternative land rover manual would be good : ) I placed in carefully in the bin inside a matchbox lined with cotton wool..... however if this happens again I will keep this in mind.
  4. Once upon a time a spider lived in a fuel gauge.... Now we all know spiders like to live in land rovers. They do a good job catching flies, However flies dont often venture into fuel gauges so im not sure why it had ventured into said fuel gauge. Im also not sure what type of spider it was? It was small with 8 legs. Anyway a part of living involves dying and so the spider died.... The gauge then had the front cover un crimped and glass removed so the spider could be removed This was then refitted You can tell it has been tampered with but you dont see the back when it is in the binnacle
  5. If you connect the Brown / Blue wire to 12v and the pink wire to earth this is what the alarm LED looks like.
  6. Best just go check i switched it off before i go to sleep. its only got to go to 97000.
  7. My code for the Pic now looks like this Program Speedo main: ANSEL = 0 ' configure AN pins as digital I/O ANSELH = 0 TRISB0_bit = 1 ' set PORTB to be input TRISC = 0 ' set PORTC to be output PORTC = 0xAA portC = 0 while true PortC.0 = 1 delay_us(195) portC.0 = 0 delay_us(195) wend end. I have changed the delay to 195 microseconds. The speedo now counts at the speed of **** flying from a shovel. 175 micro seconds and the speedo does not count... like you said, its too fast for it. Remember if these pulses seem much smaller then what is expected, my pic is running with its internal oscillator so timing will not be as accurate as using a proper crystal. Anyway its now roughly moving at 1110mph.
  8. there happens to be a td5 kph speedo on ebay item number 170658501435 2 bids £10.51 5 days or so left. a bloody good photo too Im going to up the clock speed on mine to what you said and get this speedo run up finished today : )
  9. Hell, I go away for a day and change a steering box and we make some right progress. Would be real good if we could make something to talk to the 3 pin port on the back to avoid opening the case. I manage with this electronics stuff but dont get a great deal of time to use it. Id be interested in making a micro controller based LCD display / button arrangement to type a new mileage in to adjust the mileage from out side the case but have no idea how that port works. Great work, today we have covered some ground..... : )
  10. I think it maybe glued. The 3 pin programming port is at the bottom of the rectangular hole above the RH bulb holder in my photo. looks like 3 pcb header pins soldered to some wire and poked down the hole would work That would be most helpfull, although i guess its already on your tech post about fitting the new style instruments, i dont mind looking over that again... but for others who stumble upon this post it would be good
  11. Probably, however land rover got VDO to implement afew other features to solve a few niggles for TD5 models. These were a fuel guage damper circuit which also drives the low fuel warning lamp. So no more fuel light at half a tank on a roundabout I believe there is some cirucit in there to read the temp sender from a 300tdi and control the td5 style temp guage.... but iv not got that far yet. also it contains an alarm warning LED which i would also like to use on mine to save drilling holes in my new binnacle. Im not sure if this needs 12v or what and i dont know what voltage my current alarm LED is running at. More to come on this when i finally get round to it.
  12. Dont let the three torx head screws in the back fool you. These things just dont fall apart. I did remove them. but couldnt get the back cover to move. didnt want to risk breaking mine so went the long way and hence the run up circuit. A photo of the back cover. there is a seam right around the edge suggesting that the back cover comes away.
  13. In my program to make it run faster you would adjust the value in the brackets in the "delay_ms()" lines. cant drop them much lower but if you needed more pulses per second mikrobasic has a delay_us() command which stands for microsecond. there are 1000 microseconds in a millisecond. could be worth a try. Going back to the TD5 Speedo. I dont know the max pulses it can handle per second. If anyone can flash a pic chip i have a hex file you can use with the above program. We aint allowed to upload .hex files so i would have to email it out very good point for programmable VDO or the like. What you were saying about the eeprom, on the back of the TD5 unit there is a well recessed 3pin port which i am guessing is the program port. However i wouldnt like to tamper with that because i dont know how its wired and i cant talk eeprom. It would be nice to undertake correcting the mileage ourselves the quick way... but then i suppose we risk never buying a genuine mileage TD5 in the near future. haha.
  14. Above; circuit on tripad board with some link wires etc Speedo running at 120mph+ been going afew days now much quieter then a drill.
  15. Right were do we start...... Firstly my appologies if this has already been covered in the forum and iv not seen it. Im following in the footsteps of the retroanaconda and his good work on investigating installing TD5 instrumentation and Speedo into older defenders so you can see your gauges at night. Only the speedo I got off ebay had 64k on it and my 90 has 97k. I like to keep things right so decided to up the mileage to 97k. Some dont bother, some take photos for the history of the vehicle. Others look and either say dont go out at night or if it aint broke dont fix it. Some may even send there speedo to ETB instruments or digi dash or what ever they are called these days and pay to have the reading changed. (This is the only way I know of to have the mileage reduced) Firstly the speedo transducer.... How do we replicate its signal... What does it do. In short the "A" pin of the speedo transducer connects the signal wire from the speedo to earth 4 times per rev of the transducer. so one 360 of the transducer goes N/C earth N/C earth N/C earth N/C earth. this can be confirmed using a multi meter and putting it on beep test connecting one lead to earth and the other to the wire connected to the A pin and spinning the transducer in your hand. The transducer will need powering up for this. I read else where in this forum that the transducer gives 4100 pulses per mile. Iv read about people putting the end of a transducer in a drill to spin the mileage up which seems like a good idea untill you need to add more then a couple of thousand miles to it. Knowing the the transducer connects the speedo to earth to pulse it mad my task easier as i had some components in my electronics draw that specialised in connecting things to earth. up to something daft like 34v and a fair few milliamps. I also had a PIC Micro controller and an EASYPIC 6 development board. so i wrote a small program to turn on and off a pin on the pic chip about every 7 milliseconds which i worked out should be about 120mph on the speedo. My code in Mikrobasic for pic Program Speedo main: ANSEL = 0 ' configure AN pins as digital I/O ANSELH = 0 TRISC = 0 ' set PORTC to be output PORTC = 0xAA portC = 0 while true PortC.0 = 1 delay_ms(1) portC.0 = 0 delay_ms(2) wend end. Now in the above code the ms delays are less then 7ms and the reason is because when i powered it all up the speedo showed less then 50mph. I put this down to me running the chip with its internal clock rather then a 8 or so mhz oscillator which would be more accurate. anyway the above settings give just over 120mph. This should give me my desired mileage in a week or so. (im not in any rush) The components you will need to make this circuit are.... 1x PIC16F887 ebay or maplins 1x ULN2803 (18pin chip) ebay 1x tripad board from maplins oh maybe some connectors if you intend to make it re usable... there again you could solder your link wires directly to the board it wouldnt make alot of difference. I run this from a power supply that gives out 5v and 12v. if you dont have one of these look at adding a "7805 voltage regulator" available from ebay or maplin this will give you the 5v to run the pic chip. perhaps you could power it from a 240v ac to 12v DC adaptor when the PIC pin is turned on the ULN2803 connects the speedo pin to earth.
  16. V8s as sweet as a nut, just the crunchy LT77 thats bolted to it.

  17. Hello Nelson1shot. Hows tha doin? and the 200tdi?

  18. I Droped in and had a word with them.... Mike and Dave two of the lads there have Megasquirt experience. They mainly do race cars etc and use the Hydra EMS. Mike has used Megasquirt on something he did a while ago.
  19. Tonight i got home and thought id check me lights. So turned them all on while it was parked on the drive and realised that both side lights at the front were not lit.... Brain changed to fault finding mode, it wasnt going to be bulbs or if it was its abit unlucky for both bulbs to go at the same time. Thought id check all me fuses, multi meter said they were all ok. Then I started at the lamp end, took the lense off and the bulb out and metered the contacts hoping to find about 12v as all the fuses were ok. found about 10v which should light the bulb. Had I been unlucky, had the bulb blowen.??? I tested the bulb using the meter and it tested fine too.... Anyway I tightened the earth screw with me screwdriver and it sprung to life. Same with both lamps. They be Lucas ones
  20. Anybody reading this thread and thinking about fitting megasquirt may have a question about the MOT emissions test and how megasquirt might effect it.... As mines just gone through its MOT today i thought i would input into this thread. info about the age of the vehicle and what test they perform can be found here http://www.bobmckay.co.uk/p_emissions.html basically First used before 1/8/1975 - Visual test only. Failure for excess idle speed, dense blue or black smoke for 5 seconds at idle or during acceleration up to 2500rpm or half engine max speed whichever lowest. First used between 1/8/75 and 31/7/86 - meter test CO <=4.5%, HC<=1200ppm. First used between 1/8/86 and 31/7/92 - meter test CO<=3.5%, HC<=1200ppm. *** This is the category mine fitted into*** First used between 1/8/92 and 31/7/94 - advanced emission test (CAT) if its running on petrol when presented, to the vehicle specific limits usually around CO<=0.3%, HC<=200ppm and Lambda 0.97 - 1.03. Remember from 1st August 2001 a basic emission test will be carried out initially. View the web site for more info on specific tests. Any way a handy diagram of how this all relates is shown in the back of the megasquirt tuning manual.... This is shown below All I did was try and get my Wideband Lambda sensor to show between 14 and 15 at idle. it sits about 14.3:1 ish Results of the emissions test.... 1.14% CO and 97ppm
  21. Were abouts in Yorkshire? Theres ZCARS in east Yorkshire. zcars.org.uk Not sure if they have Megasquirt experience. They have someone there capable of advanced tuning. Im fairly sure its the same technique with other engine management systems. Well the technique never changes its just the software you use.... We use megatune. Most Dynos have a lambda sensor fitted anyway they just poke it into your exhaust. Think you will need a couple of people too. Driver / Dyno operator / megasquirt person
  22. Ahh Ill have a look at that, seems iv hit a brick wall now. the Xandros the eeepc runs has been customised by asus alot. I can get most of the development tools needed to compile megatunix but im having the old pkg-config-path problems i used to get with Mandrake Linux along time ago. Seems GTK+-2.0 is a pain to get hold of the development library. iv been on the eee pc wiki etc and added the repository for the development tools got most of them. installed bison etc but were down to the last few required packages and its just going round in a circle one depends on the other to install. It seems the debian development repository files from the eee wiki site dont like mixing with the asus ones. I will change this guide to installing megatunix onto a USB UBUNTU LINUX PEN DRIVE. iv got the eee running megatunix on that. compiled straight away no bother at all. Proper linux distrobution lol Then i will tackle the asus cut and shut xandros installation at a later date
  23. Thought about that, I also thought about installing ubuntu. or booting my USB ubuntu. Or the easy method.... slap Windows FISHER PRICE XP on it. Then i thought it would be more of a challenge installing megatunix and adding an icon shortcut to the asus GUI therefore keeping it the way asus intended. I think the Asus interface on a linux os makes it a very clean and easy to use system. I only got it tother day so im probably going to explore all the above methods then decide on which one i think is most practical for use in the Landy It takes some getting used to typing on it? did you find that?
  24. How to get Megatunix on an ASUS EEEPC running LINUX...... I have heard this mentioned before and was looking at the EEEPC for tuning the Megasquirt ECU on the Land Rover for abit. What won it for me was the size of it. Basically its half the size of the normal 14" widescreen laptop. Great for removing from your land rover if you leave it parked anywhere after logging / tuning etc where a normal laptop can be abit bulky / heavy you can carry this around no problem. My EEEPC is a 20GB SSD (Solid State Disk, No moving parts like a hard disk) 1024MB of RAM enough to boot a "live cd type os" from a USB stick its exact model is EEEPC900-W005 The EEEPC running linux has a real user friendly front end..... but, the add / remove programs option only allows you to install asus programs specifiacally for the eeepc. Although they have tried to make it as windows friendly as possible for a linux OS How do we get around this to install other programs??? The key is in the File manager. Open this and you will see the following.... Its the KDE file manager. KDE is a well known linux desktop environment opposed to gnome. ---- bit of background info there. Now you may have to go to the VIEW menu and select TOOLBARS and make sure ADDRESS BAR has a check next to it now remove all the text from the address bar except the first / like the following screen shot Once you have removed everything except the first "/" and pressed the enter key you should see the following Open the "bin" folder this stands for binary. Basically its were alot of the programs executable files are stored. once opened you will see the following Your looking for "bash" its a linux shell. (in windows terms its a command prompt much like typin "cmd" in the run dialog box) if you click on bash it will load the following then we may need to switch users to an "administrator" the administrator account in linux is called "root" to run commands as the root user you prefix it with the word "sudo" so >sudo synaptic will load synaptic package manager with administrator privileges to permanently switch to the root user you would issue the command >sudo su followed by the enter key. once this is done you no longer need to prefix commands with the sudo command. The following are screen shots of this process. sudo su command after sudo su command synaptic command Synaptic Package manager. Thats as far as iv got with the screen shots at the moment. We will be using Synaptic package manager to re install some of the packages that we need to compile programs from source code..... such as megatunix. More to come.........
