    Gears

Hi, Please excuse my ignorance. I have an automatic Discovery 2 and would like some information on the following: 1) High/Low Gears: a) How do the High/Low gears work? b) When should the respective gears be used? c) Are there any conditions/limitations that should be followed when using them? 2) Can I shift the gear stick between D, 1, 2, and 3 WITHOUT stopping the vehicle? Cheers.
  2. I am looking for places where to buy savage parts for my Disco 2, year 2000, V8 - ES model. I need the following. Please suggest places in the UK (mail order or collection). I am in Reading/Basingstoke. Thank you. "GREEN" Complete Front Bumper (including brackets L/R, absorber L/R, shield, grill, carrier, Washers Jets L/R, fog lights) Front Grill Radiator Cooling Fan Blade Air Conditioning Condenser Front Panel Front Cross Member Engine Splash Guard
  3. Another question - where can I purchase a Wheel Hub online in the UK and are there any recommended pattern brands?
  4. Hi, Had the Discovery checked at the garage and they concluded after clearing the codes that there is a slight play in the ‘exciter ring’ due to corrosion which throws the senor. Just for some technical info: 1) Is the ‘exciter ring’ made of aluminium? 2) Is it ‘compression fitted’ to a steel component in the hub? 3) If the exciter ring is compression fitted, can corrosion cause play to the exciter ring? 4) Can there be a possibility that there is a chemical reaction between the materials from the excited ring and the mating component – caused due to environment (atmosphere)? 5) My warranty does not cover corrosion, therefore, could corrosion be the cause of this component failure? Thanks.
  5. Hi, Discovery 2, year 2000, V8 Petrol. The Warning Lights (ABS, Traction Control and Hill Decent) on my Discovery suddenly came on this morning while waiting at the traffic light. The Discovery has used on normal roads under normal driving conditions (No off-roading). Please advise what could have caused these 3 lights to come on together. Thank you.
  6. I would like to install roof mounted 'round' driving spot lights/lamps on my Discovery II year 2000. Please advise on the following: a) Do I need any additional power source, e.g. addititional battery B) How is the wiring done (neatly and hidden) c) Is it possible to use one of the 'blank' switches to operate the lights Any other useful information will be appreciated. Thanks.
  7. Hi, I have just had a set of four new tyres on my Discovery 2 year 2000. These are the General Grabber AT2 (255/55 R18) tyres. Please advise what the tyre pressure should be for the front and back when used on road/moterway? Thanks.
  8. Please suggest an online mail order store with a reputation for quality parts. I am looking for brake discs and pads for my Discovery 2 V8 year 2000 automatic model. Thank you.
  9. Hi, Vehicle: Discovery year 2000 Petrol 4l V8 Automatic 1) Will a leaking back/front sunroof, seep rain water into the interior front courtesy light and onto the sun-visor overhead tray, which is situated near the rear-view mirror. 2) When it rains heavily, the following switches on the dash near the gear-stick malfunction: -fuel-cap switch -hazards switch -door lock switch -central locking malfunctions -rear/front heater switch -rear wiper switch (right of steering) -the gear-stick indicator LCD near the speed-dial blinks with a ‘crossed’ D - Drive. The Clock, Heater and Radio function fine. After a few hours, ranging from 3 hours to sometimes 20 hours, everything seems to get back to normal. i) Please advise if there is ONE circuit/ECU controlling all these switches? ii) Where is the ECU situated, is it near the interior front courtesy light? iii) What else could be causing these switches to malfunction? Thank you.
  10. Hi, I am thinking of attaching a Light Bar and Driving Lamps to my Discovery 2, year 2000. Please advise how to mount them including information on wiring, etc. if possible. If someone has captured the process through photos, that would be most appreciated. Thanks. gsgtsg
  11. Hi David Sparkes - I am not intending to purchase any equipment, I was just trying to see if the main dealer kit was superior to kits used by garages. Thanks.
  12. By 'Commercial Diagnosis', I meant the kit used by garages that are not main dealers. I was wondering if main dealer diagnosis kits are better than those used by garages.
  13. Is there a difference between the genuine Land Rover Test Book used by main dealers and the Commercial Diagnosis computer used by garages.
  14. Yesterday I experienced central locking/alarm problems on my Discovery 2 year 2000 V8 petrol. That issue resolved by itself and then a new problem appeared where the dash showed a flashing 'P' and flashing crossed 'D', when the key was in position 2 and also when the engine was started. The symbols were still present when I changed gears. I could not see any information about the flashing and crossed 'D' in the handbook? Please advise.
