  1. Thank you sooo much!!! Found a split hose, just looking to source one now. Thanks again
  2. There is oily residue, will get hands dirty shortly. Thanks!
  3. Hi I have a 54 plate Freelander TD4 Auto. Have towed with it 3 times but last weekend we towed with it, it started making a weird noise like air blowing, lost power going up slopes and it kicked out black smoke, it's doing the same without the van on the back. Oh also an eggy smell, we are assuming the cat? Does this sound like normal faults for a cat that's breaking down? Any other suggestions please. Thanks.
  4. Good morning, I previously posted about my Satnav not working and someone said to remove the fuse, my ever so helpful partner decided he would disconnect the battery instead so now I have to insert a code. My manual says it is on the security card which I have, there is a serial number but no code grrrrr! The serial number is E4765HJO45022433, however when searching for the code online it says the code should start with RG. Any advice would be great please as silence is certainly not golden!
  5. Have tried cleaning the disc but to to avail. However, the whole unit does not work at all now as my ever so helpful partner decided to disconnect the battery and now I have to input a code which I do not have. Extremely not happy now!!
  6. Hi there My 54 plate Freelanders Sat Nav has just decided that it doesn't like the disc, keeps coming up with 'insert installation disc.' I have had the car 2 years and have never even touched the disc, why has it just decided now that it's not going to work? Maybe cus we are getting a caravan and need the sat nav now? Any advice please. Zoe
  7. Thanks, it's done now, went to a professional in the end!
  8. Morning! In the process of changing the rear wheel bearing but so far have only removed the wheel. Is there any special way to remove the drum? Just can't seem to budge it! Help! Cheers Edited to say: Don't worry it's the 32mm nut that is stuck, trying to find an extension....
  9. Thanks for your replies. The bloke in the garage said it's definitely the rear wheel bearing. Have got the new wheel bearing, can't find any info on fitting them though, are they very hard to do? Will the Rave manual help? Just downloaded it but can't get it to run lol!
  10. After your advice again I'm afraid. I posted about 12 months ago, my Freelander (TD4 auto 54 plate, 79k) was really noisy, like a humming/whirring coming from the back end and becoming increasingly noisy from 30mph, then deafening after 60 plus. Anyhow, changed the brand new spare onto one of the back wheels and it was as quiet as a mouse. As the tyre has worn it has started to make the same noise again and it's as loud as, my kids can't hear anything in the back. Today I took it to a recommended independent Land Rover specialist in Wiltshire and the blokey took it for a spin, as soon as he pulled away he said how noisy it was. First of all he said it could be a wheel bearing but after a short drive, and turning the wheel as he drove, accelerating, breaking etc he reckons it could be the diff (that is not what I wanted to hear) He is going to have it in on Friday and have a proper look. This afternoon, we changed the wheels around, back to front, left to right, it has made no difference. What do you guys think? My tyres are Michelin Synchrone 255/55/R17 97H, are these normally 'noisy tyres' I am at a loss tbh, I so hope it's not the diff. Thanks in advance. Zoe
  11. Well I think the tyre change appears to have remedied it. I cannot believe what a difference putting the spare Michelin on has made. Would the noise have been getting louder as the tyre was wearing? Excuse the daft questions, I am a girl! Just the air con to sort out now! Thanks for your replies guys, most appreciated
  12. Bought a 54 TD4 auto in Dec, when the garage where I bought it from did the first MOT they chucked a new tyre on, it's a right crappy tyre, not even sure of the make, I have Michelins on the rest. The last few months I have noticed a droning noise which is getting louder, first off all it seemed to be at 30pm and 60mph now it is more frequent and definitely getting louder. Had it serviced today, asked my mechanic about the noise and he took it to a LR blokey who said that the noise could be because of the crappy tyre or the crappy tyre could have buggered the VC (is this true? Can this actually happen?) Or its the diff. He also said you shouldn't change one tyre you should change them all. My lovely partner is now outside puttting the Michelin spare on (in the pouring rain) to see if this makes a difference. What do you think? I had a diff go on a Frontera years ago which cost loads and I don't want to be forking out hundreds now. Any advice appreciated. Zoe PS, even though my warranty has run out, could I go back to the garage? PPS, aircon doesn't work either, apparently it's ran out of gas?? What do I do about that?
  13. Hi guys I've got a 54 Freelander 2.0 HSE TD4. I have been thinking of getting it chipped, has anyone got there's done? A bloke I work with has the same model and has his done and thinks it's marvellous, he paid about 300 quid and got a K&N filter too. Any advice and anywhere in the Somerset area that does it or should I buy the bits and get someone else to fit it as my cousin is a mechanic? TIA Zoe
  14. Thanks Dennis for your reply, it's much appreciated and has put my mind at rest. Like I said to Marc I have been letting it warm up first and not driving it straight off and it really is loads better. Oh my word I can't believe I put 65 million miles, what a knob! No, it's only done 65k doh! Thanks again, Zoe (and I'm not even blonde!) PS, I'm sure to be back for more advice!!
  15. Cheers Marc. I have been letting it warm up now ie start it up and then strap the kids in and it's a million times better! I'm just inpatient. I'm quite liking it now lol!! Zoe
  16. Freelander 2.0 HSE Auto 54 plate 65,000k I have read somewhere that there is a fuel burning heater on the Freelander am I correct? And also correct in thinking this makes a whirring noise when I stop? Now when the whirring stops it smells strongly of diesel, this can't be right surely? Another thing, when I first drive the car in the morning whilst it is cold it hasn't got any go in it whatsover, I live on a hill and it goes up there about 5mph. What do you think this could be? Also, last one! Is this fitted with a cam belt if so, what mileage does it need doing? Thanks for your help, much appreciated. Zoe
  17. Cheers Marc, I'll have another look when it warms up a bit!
  18. Hi there Yesterday I bought a TD4 HSE Auto on a 54 plate. Not actually sure if I like it yet, am hoping it will grow on me! I took delivery this morning of a pair of side steps (the genuine LR ones) and encountered two problems, one being the 'special' tool that you are meant to use to fit them - a M6 Rivnut/Nutsert which I obviously don't have, spoke to Brooklands who said it can be remedied with a longer bolt etc which I understand and can deal with. The only other thing is that there are supposed to be predrilled holes in the sill and the chassis, found the chassis ones ok but cannot find the ones on the sills? Does that mean I have to drill them myself? Thanks in advance for any help and I hope to be a regular poster. Cheers, Darren
