  1. Hi I just got told that i could run my p reg 300 tdi on veg oil. Is this true? If so, which oil is best please and should I get a conversion? many thanks tom
  2. Just a note to let you know what has happened. The mechanic checked the injectors, they were fine. He bled the lift pump and made sure all was ok. He cleaned a filter out, now I don't know what filter it was, but anyway it seems to have worked. I can get 95 out of it now with a very top speed of 100. Is this about right for a p reg 300tdi? cheers
  3. Yeah, I also think that has a part to play in it. I hope I get to the popint where it's loooverly. What do people think of a 54 ish plate discovery? Reliable? Money pits?
  4. Ah Sorry I didn't post a reply quickly. I was monitoring it incorrectly through 'my assistant'. Anyway. To be honest I have no idea what type of injection it is or whether there is an air flow meter etc. I plan on prinintg this conversation out and literally taking it to the mechanic. The engine sound like it is 'tight' yes and sounds like it about to burst from the bonnet if I try to go above 60 / 70 so I don't!!! It also seems to be using a lot of fuel. Regarding the warranty, I have one on the engine itself but I'm unaware of the mechanics position on warranty. Thanks Steve. Do you know if its mechanical injection or electronic ? is there an air flow meter in the intake hose between air filter and turbo and does it have a throttle cable on the injector pump? Most auto 300TDi's are electronic inj. so it could easily be something on the control side : air flow meter, throttle pedal potentiometer or wiring/plugs loose or broken. Its pretty unlikely you have damaged the engine, its just worth bearing in mind a new engine will be 'tight' so less inclined to rev and may need 1-2000miles to loosen up...presumably you have a warranty period with major work like this so you should have time to see it through cheers Steveb
  5. Hi Steve, I'm in Eccleston, near Chorley. I run a street theatre company and I pull a box trailer full of gear so I figured a discovery. I fish a lot in hard to reach places and my friends got some land that he needs maintenance work doing on, so I thought I could justify a discovery. As far as I know, they took all the parts from my old engine and put it on the recon. Any injectors would be old. They put a new radiator on supposedly. They reckon they have 'advanced the timing 4 times'. I'm a bit concerned that in trying to judge it's performance, I've driven it too hard for it's new engine. It's got 330 mile on the clock. Anyway, that won't account for the fact that it was slow when I originally picked it up. It's a worry. An expensive one! This forum helps though. I was on the brink of selling it and taking a loss of 4.5 grand. Thanks Steve.
  6. Hi I just had a reconditioned 300tdi engine put in my p reg discovery. It feels slow to accelerate and top speed is only about 75mph. The garage adjusted the timing to its' optimum setting which improved the speed slightly and smokey exhaust completely. The discovery is very slow (approx 55mph towing 1.5tonne flat surface) and sluggish generally. Help Help Help!!!!! Please Please Please. The car stands me nearly 7 grand already! Many thanks in advance. Tom
