  1. Just an update - I spoke to the insurance company (CIS/Co-operative) and they were fine about me leaving the policy to run after selling the vehicle. The lady even advised me to do so as then I wouldn't have to pay the cancellation fee and would still have 3rd party extension. So I can at least recommend them from a helpful customer service point of view! Now I have no excuses not to sell the old girl...
  2. Thanks for the speedy replies guys. I'll definitely contact the insurance company first, I could always hold off selling for a month until the policy runs out. Leigh
  3. Hi, I am (very reluctantly) planning on selling my Ninety. My insurance only has few months left to run, so I was thinking about leaving it to finish so I get another year No Claims Bonus. Is this illegal or fraudulent in any way, as I won't own or drive the vehicle any more? Leigh
  4. Spotted this one on a country estate in Devon, presume it was something to do with the pheasant shoot. Not seen another like it, is it a one off or were these sort of things common in the series days?
  5. Thats brilliant, thanks. Just need to order some motivation and actually get on with it on saturday...
  6. I'm planning on changing the oil in my gearbox and transfer box. (1991 2.5 petrol ninety - so LT77 and LT230 I assume...) I have looked at various guides but none mention what size the copper washer is on the drain plug(s). I rather get one before taking the plug out and finding its knackered! I guess I'll need one for each of the drain plugs on the gearbox and one for the transfer box? Also, on the taper filler plugs, is a couple of wraps of ptfe tape a good idea? Any help appreciated Leigh
  7. GL4, not GL5, righto will do. As soon as I've done christmas! Hopefully 2010 will bring quiet reversing...
  8. I tried the landy in reverse with the transfer box in neutral - no noise to be heard. But the noise is there in both high and low ratio, so does this point to anything?! I also tried rolling backwards in neutral, and couldn't hear anything, so I'm guessing this rules out diffs?
  9. I've had the ninety for a month or so, but I've had a 200tdi disco previously, which didn't sound anything like this! I will try it with the transfer box in neutral tommorrow. I guess by this suggestion your thinking the transfer box might be the problem?
  10. Hi, I have a 1991 2.5 petrol ninety, with (I believe) an LT77 gearbox. When in reverse, it makes an awful whiring noise. It is also impossible to get it into 5th until its warmed up and at a decent speed (55mph+). Any suggestions as to the problem and solution very much appreciated. I am planning on an oil change in the next week or two as there is a lot on oil on the gearbox, so maybe not so much in it! Thanks Leigh
  11. ok, thanks for the advice. I will steer clear of spacers then, and go for a set of wheels. Do all 8 spokes and modulars have more negative offset than disco alloys or do I need to specify?
  12. Hi, I have a 1991 90/defender (2.5 petrol). It has a set of standard steel wheels with 205 R16 for road use, and I have a set of disco alloys (firestyle) with 235 85 R16 mud terrains for use offroad. With the muds fitted I lose steering lock, and was wondering what is the best and/or cheapest way to regain it. The two options I'm looking at are wheel spacers or wheels with a more (or less, I'm not sure which way round it is!) offset. I've been told that weller 8 spokes are available with more offset than standard, but I'm not sure how you tell the difference. Any opinions or ideas gladly taken on board, I have tried searching the archive but to no avail, if I have missed this problem in a previous thread please point me in the right direction! Thanks Leigh
  13. That should do the job, thanks for the help.
  14. Hi, I have recently bought a 1991 (H reg) 90, with a 2.5 petrol lump in it. I am after a Haynes/workshop manual for it. I've tried searching Haynes site + google for one,but no joy. There only seems to be one for the diesel version. Any ideas or suggestions for alternatives - I am fairly inexperienced so nothing aimed at professional mechanics! Thanks Leigh
  15. fridge freezer - I am thinking about selling it, get your mate/or you to send me a PM. cheers
