  1. the castle nut on my S3 SWB front hub bearing is domed and has no "flats" so according to the manual it must be a 109. I bought a standard SWB bearing kit, which doesn't fit! the inner bearing track is too wide, the outer one is too small! the ones I am trying to replace are the same diameter. what type of hub have I got, 109 or 88???
  2. Can you help??? I've been given an unfinished project for Christmas. the car is a S3 1982, the engine a 2.5D N/A. everything is bolted together except the fuel lines, accelerator cable and exhaust. The electrics can wait a while. I have several problems what's the best way to connect the accelerator to the injector pump? the pump fitting is different to the S3 cable; the correct cable for the pump does not fit to the S3 accelerator linkages the front of the injector pump (nearest the radiator) has a threaded hole for a return pipe (I think) - where does this connect to? I have S3 exhaust front pipe which appears to be about 2" - 3" short (vertically) and won't reach the manifold to connect it. Will a Defender exhaust (3 hole connecting bracket) give me the extra length, or should I cut the S3 and weld in a short section? The radiator is standard S3. What is the easiest way to connect a top hose to the thermostat housing as no standard hose will fit. Do I have to fit a Defender radiator, or is there a different thermostat housing I can use? no doubt as the project progresses I'll have more daft questions...... many thanks Dickie
  3. For Christmas my wife bought me a S3 with a 2.5 Diesel N/A fitted, non runner, from E Bay!!!! the car is an unfinished project and there are all sorts of bits missing that I can, with a bit of searching, find and fit but the bit I'm having trouble with is the radiator top hose. the rad is original S3, the thermostat hosing is (I think) standard 2.5D N/A. I can't find a hose that will connect the two; can anyone help? do I need to make one up? where can I get hose from? should I make up metal pipe (out of 28mm copper?) that gives all the right bends and then connect at each end with hose? I'm confident I can do the job if someone knows how, but have no access to sophisticated workshop kit, just a basic tool kit. I've never done any kind of conversion before, so if this seems like a basic and stupid question, be gentle with me! Are there any other things I should look out for that will need special attention? All help gratefully received! Dickie
