  1. Unfortunately a discovery r reg turned up on a trailer today this is the donor vehicle . Same guy has a defender that lost oil pressure last year I explained could be bottom end or maybe cam bearings so should be stripped and rebuilt he bought a disco motor and wanted everything swapped from the old motor and check the bottom end while your at it. Still ended up as a rebuild as all crank bearings were buggered.
  2. A customer towed his 200 90 into work today it has run away on its own oil and blown up he wants us to fit a 300 from a disco in I just wondered what is involved.
  3. Thinking about future parts supply.
  4. Yep number four is the low one it is chuffing in the exhaust and loads of blue smoke no water loss though in fact it has never lost any water in the nine years I have owned it. The one at work removed head to find three cracked pistons.
  5. I did a compression test tonight 1 to 4 read 20,18,21,10 bar possably a burnt valve as tweaked pump and turbo because I have 35's on does not do anything to strenuous like offroad or towing though. Fed up of landys removed a head of a 200 and gearbox out of a td5 disco in work.
  6. Will be doing a full rebuild so a piston change is not a problem I was just wondering what I would need to do I fancy putting on a performance head from turner or acr .
  7. Probably been asked before but will a 300 head go on a 200 with a little work.
  8. I have had this problem twice with my 05 td4 £265 each time for a rebuild just bad luck I guess
  9. Thanks for the replys think i've sorted it changed pump which made no difference, then bypassed water trap and all the crappy pipework(the push on fittings really are a carp idea) and it runs fine so ordered new trap and pipework for next week will keep fingers crossed.
  10. 05 td4 started running rough on tickover yesterday then today would not start this afternoon after doing about 200 miles. Changed fuel filter which has only made it worse it will now only start after turning over about twenty seconds my thinking is air leak between tank and pump or knackerd pump which is only two years old does anyone have any other ideas ?.
  11. Had the same problem bloody thing nearly threw me off the road it shook that bad, changed the steering box for a new unit now no wobble even with 35 simex on mach 5 beadlocks with no balance
  12. Wrexham is and always has been part of wales
  13. Thanks for the replys I forget to mention its a very late 200, I can hear something clicking when the vehicle is moving so I figure the head has failed ?
  14. My 90 has just turned the 100,000 and now the numbers have stuck this does not really bother me but I like to keep an eye on the milage to keep up with servicing does anyone have an idea how to fix the numbers so the mileage works again
  15. Does not seem right to me not long ago put a new borg & beck unit in my 200 and that bites about halve way up
  16. I also have gwyns full kit and have found it to be a good compromise between offroad articulation and very good onroad manners. I do get a fair bit of front axle movement but I used geniune bush's when rebuilding the fornt axle this might make a bit of difference ?.
  17. You might want to consider the fuel consumption before you tweek it my 200 is tweeked a little plus an allisport intercooler and I am getting between 11 to the gallon on a bad day and 17 on a good one
  18. I got the agreed value through the wrexham office But I had to supply all the photos I had taken of the rebuild of my truck(their was a lot as it took me three years to compleat) plus two independent valuations and an engineers report and all reciepts that I had for parts fitted
  19. Found a piece of recovery equipment left on punch 12 (the raging torrent river crossing) while I were collecting the punch at the end of the day. I was delayed getting back to control having to recover another car so I do not know who it belongs to so send me a pm telling what you lost and I will make sure you get it back some how
  20. Its not really about how much the policy costs but value for money their are not many insures out their who cover winches and give free trailer cover
  21. The nfu were £138 cheaper than af when I insured my truck plus I had an agreed value and they also covered my two winches the only thing I had to do was provide reciepts for all new parts fitted. They were not bothered at all with the suspension changes or wheel/tyres sizes they were just added to the policy at no cost
  22. I was advised by gwyn lewis to use standard bushes when I rebuilt mine as this can be a common problem with polybush's
  23. snap on for sockets and spanners, murex for welding equipment, teng tools for torque wrench's,sykes for pullers and other specilist equipment and dewalt for drills and grinders but the best thing you can have is a misses that has your tea on the table and a hot bath ready after you have spent all day in the workshop fixing that bloody landy again
  24. You get what you pay for with tools buy snap on or mack and you will have them for ever if you keep a good lock on your tool box
