HI I AM LOOKING TO CHANGE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE CALIPERS.WHAT I HAVE AT THE MOMENT IS A 87 NINETY WITH DISCO AXLES ORIGINAL CALIPERS WITH M12 BOLTS AND 7/16 THREAD ON THE FRONT THE CALIPERS LOOK LIKE RTC4998/4999 RESPECTFULLY AND TAKE THE SMALL BRAKE PADS.IS THERE ANY OTHER OPTIONS.PLUS DO I REMOVE OLD CALIPERS TO MAKE SURE I GET THE RIGHT ONE'S.THE REARS LOOK LIKE STANDARD DISCO SET UP. CALIPERS LOOK LIKE STC 1264/1265 RESPECTFULLY AND TAKE THE SMALL BRAKE PADS ARE THERE OTHER OPTIONS. I WILL OF COURSE I WILL BE CHANGING DISC'S AT THE SAME TIME PLUS ALL OIL AND GASKETS.I WILL BE KEEPING OLD CALIPERS FOR REFURBISHING .JUST TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT THE OPTIONS ARE BEFORE I ORDER THE PARTS.THANKS FOR ANY INFO
  2. hi there does anybody know if the inner oil seals part no rtc 4785.are interchange able with the double lipped one's part no rtc 3511.

  4. hi to all. simple question really.on my lt 230 t transfer box the centre diff lock wont go into the difflock postition.what i would like to know is this. is it easy to repair. or should i get another box.the ratio of the box is a 1.44 and not the 1.2 as fitted to the discovery.if it's easy to repair roughly how much is it likely to cost.any advice appreciated.i have tried jacking up front and back to make sure it's not locking in but no joy.and how does the centre diff actually work.as in what move's what exactly
  5. i have just replaced my ujs on my rear propshaft.when takeing them out i had to use a vice and a socket.once i had cleaned them up before replacing them.i started to put them back together.but the bearing cups that have the needle rollers in them went into the yoke's quite easily as i could put them in with my fingers.what i would like to know is this. is my propshaft u.s.and is it time to buy a new one
  6. hi there i am putting a disco steering set up on my defender using the straight drop arm.what i would like to know is thi what are the measurements between the centre's of the tre on the drag link. and also on the track rod.the measurements thst i have got are drag link 924mm between tre centre's.track rod 1230mm between centre's if any body can confirm these measurement it would be a great help.many thanks
  7. hi there. i have got a 87 90 with a four bolt steering box.i also have a four bolt steering box out of a disco with a straight type drop arm what i would like to know if swap the boxe's it it a straight swap as in.are the low and high pressure pipe conections the same on the four bolt boxes where the go into the box.any ideas much appreciated
  8. hi there just wondered what people think about heavy duty steering arms to do the disco style steering set up on a defender.choice 1 go for the ones that paddocks sell for £65+vat.or choice 2 the gwyn lewis one's which are at least three times as much.just what other people have used or done.many thanks
  9. hi to all. has any one on this forum had any experience of fitting a steering wheel from a mgb. have been offered one, i have been told it has got 36 spline's like mine has.and just wondered if it was a straight swop or is there some thing else lurking in the back ground that i have missed.
  10. the old seals are a bit past it .plus i am putting a new bulkhead on as well so new seals would want sticking on.plus where do the new type seals fit ie on the bulkhead or on the flaps /
  11. hi to all. what is the diffrence between rtv sealant ? and where do you buy it from.and the silicone sealant from places like b&q.as i would like to re-seal my bulkhead vents as well.but i was going to use uni-bond roof and gutter sealer.would this be any good.any thoughts welcome
  12. hi gromit dont know if they are the right type.what i would do is go to a decent motor factors and take the old one with you if possible then you know it will be right type and you can get the brake pipe at the same time and it will save on post and packing
  13. hi to all simple question really.are 4 bolt steering boxes the same size unions at the steering box end where the pipes go or can they be different
  14. hi to all i have been offered a 4 bolt steering box off a 1998 discovery that has a flat type drop arm.what i want to know is this. will this bolt straight on to my 1987 ninety so that i can get rid of the replaceable ball joint.i realise that i would have to change the drag link and also get a damper relocation kit as well.what else would be required if any thing or what have i missed out.many thanks in advance
  15. hi to all i have got a 1987 90 with the early type four spoke steering wheel and i am considering changing it. what i would like to know what would fit from a car.eg metro.maestro any help greatly received. cheers ady
