  1. Cheers for the replies unfortunately its the old interphone version with a weird 5pin type adapter - i have searched everywhere and cant find one - does anybody know where you can get connections made up?
  2. Does anybody know where I can get a set of in car chargers for the Blueant bluetooth comms? Or alternative where I can get a set made up. Thanks
  3. Excellent Many thanks all in the back it goes (with a fan!)
  4. I have noticed that most people tend to mount their auto box cooler in the back with a fan. Is there any reason you couldn't mount a vertical cooler in front of the radiator in the space between the winch and the wing? That way you would still benefit from the airflow created by the radiator fans and some (albeit limited) air cooling? Am I missing something? Thanks
  5. Great thanks guys i will speak with Albert tomorrow.
  6. Hi I am currently running 35/10.5/16 simex on allied beadlocks - 16 / 8.5 with 4" back space. I was hoping to go to boggers at 37/13/16 would my current 8.5" rims be adequate? Also who is the best supplier i am loathed to go to devon due to previous tyre delays but somebody mentioned they were the main uk importer now for superswamper (i stand to be corrected). Thanks in advance.
  7. Hi does anybody know what the thread sizes are on both ends of the adaptors on the oil cooler (part of the radiator) for a 3.9 V8. I only have a metric thread guage which is worse than useless!!!! I am trying to reroute and replace the hoses All help greatly appreciated. Thanks
  8. Blue ant - its 5hrs talk time not stand by - seems from the responses should be ok. Thought about the scarla types but couldnt get hold of any - they seemed a better buy
  9. For those that use helmets and blue tooth headsets when competing do you find that you need to recharge the headset during the day or is the "5hrs" talk time adequate? If so do you need to buy a vehicle charging kit as an extra?
  10. I agree ^^^^^^^ Too few team / two day events - way more fun if you ask me That said couldnt commit to the whole series but would hope to do a few of them
  11. Thanks now sorted coolant sensor was faulty
  12. Hi I run a 3.9 V8 EFI with a hot wire system. When the vehicle is warm it either cuts out, floods or if it doesnt flood it comes pretty close running on anything but 8! After a morning a set of brand new BPR6ES plugs are covered in soot in every cylinder. Strangely enough the engine fires first time runs well then once it gets warm as above. As the engine is fitted to a defender I am running an electric fuel pump outside of the tank. The fuel pump is rated to the same pressure as an in tank range rover pump. I am pretty sure it is a fuelling issue and not a spark issue given the state of the plugs. Anybody got any ideas? I thought it could be the fuel pressure regulator but wasnt sure how to check it? Could it be the airflow meter? If so how can this be checked. Thanks John.
  13. Great thanks very much - there are some really interesting bits of kit in the recovery brochure!
  14. all apologies if this has already been posted unfortunately my computer crashed. can anybody advise me where i can buy two winch hooks mated together where the would normally be joined to the rope. thanks
  15. Hi Simon for Northern events try either Cheviots planned 2009 events or the Scotia events. All will be borders / NE. Drop me a pm if you are interested in either so as not to crash this thread. We normally enter two vehicles and are based in Newcastle. Rgds John
  16. Hi I have bought a hydro-assist kit from rob hybrid, same as lama4x4, however this is designed to fit a four bolt steering box. Unfortunately I am running a six bolt box. I have tried replacing the six for the four bolt box but it doesnt fit due to where we have fitted the v8 - hits the oil filter. Does anybody have any bright ideas as to how i can use the bits of kit i have bought in conjunction with the six bolt box. Many thanks in advance. John.
  17. I do not contribute much to this forum but i take alot away (much like hedge funds) primarily because i am an enthusiastic amatuer - i cant drive and i cant modify but i like to give both a go. I for one would like to whole heartedly thank Les and the other contributors for helping me progress by basic skills with tech updates and the like. I dont know Les but well done for standing up and being counted, given your profile on here that takes real strength of personality. To all contributors please keep it up whether it be a gasket change or a LS powered, swamp swallowing super buggy. Merely an observation but this forum is hugely snobbish towards amatuers principally around fabrication skills and cheque book off roaders. If the majority want this to be a coded welders (i dont even know what a coded wleder is nor do i care) ego contest then it will be a very sad day indeed. Threads like the type Les posted help to restore the balance - well done and keep it up. The advancement of this sport and the growth of great companies who operate in this sphere is hugey dependent on the experts nurturing novices and supporting them through their deliberations, successes and mistakes. The demise is through patronising and crticising every move (banter aside). It is interesting that contributors who operate commercially and have built a loyal following (X-Eng, Aschroft and the like) seem to conduct themselves in a much more composed, balanced and collaborative fashion. The old adage that thsoe that do do and those that don't preach springs to mind. The beauty of this forum is that every member has something to contribute (I don't but if anybody wants to wants to buy or sell a business or raise pe or public market funds give me a call!) and no member should feel intimidated in doing so. Off topic but whilst i am venting my spleen any chance of a spell check or a basic grammar thread on here. The abuse of the english language is frightening.
  18. Think it is an excellent idea. The guys from Cheviot (Pete and Dave) PeteBog on D44 are running a novice event in the North East which by all accounts is likely to be well attended. I am sure there is an appetite in the Northern region for a series. Preference would be for 2 day events but anything would be better than driving to Slindon!
  19. Thanks very much guys ordered a 120 amp from a V8 disco from paddocks.
  20. Rob I would be very interested in buying one of your kits - could you pm me with payment details. Thanks.
  21. Thanks I have upgraded the wiring but not to cope with 185amps! Is there not a rover part which was fitted to other V8's with a higher ampage and would be a straight fit?
  22. Hi all I run a 90 with a 3.9EFI engine out of a disco. I want to upgrade the alternator from the existing 85amp unit. The land rover part number is YLE10099 it has a ribbed belt. Would anybody know what would be a straight swap which would take me to say 100 or 130amps. Preferrably I would want new and not second hand. I have already upgraded the wiring. Thanks in advance
  23. Rob I would also be interested it looks like a great idea. Tried to pm you but it was bounced back. Please could you let me know when you would be in a position to sell a set. Rgds John
  24. Simply fantastic engineering. Well done a pleasure to see.
