  1. There was also a troubleshooting guide but at 10 pages it's too big to attach. If anyone wants it, I'll email it to you.
  2. Just had this reply to my e-mail~: Hi Iain, Thank you for visiting the WARN web page. Your winch is a WARN model 8200, this is the first winch we offered that had both power-in and power-out features. We have not built this winch since the early 1970’s and parts are no longer available. Attached is some information on this winch including a parts diagram and troubleshooting. I hope this information is helpful. Best regards, Steve Schoenfelder WARN Industries 8200 parts list.pdf 8200_owners_manual.pdf
  3. Just found this on the net: http://www.billys56willys.com/temp/winch/8200/8200_owners_manual.pdf So its an 8200 then.
  4. £40?? I paid a bit more than that Think I'll keep it though, thanks for the offer. Powered it up tonight and it runs really sweet.
  5. The freespool linkage all looks very, erm, agricultural shall we say? All nice and easy to access! I take it the ratchet mechanism is the brake? Have e-mailed Warn to see what additional info they can come up with such as the availability of parts.
  6. Just bought this winch off ebay which was simply described as a Warn Electric Winch. The photos showed it to be an 8274 or 8074, but is it? Seems to be a cross between an old Belleview and an 8274, as it has a freespool mechanism and as I understand it the 8074 didn't have freespool. I'm unsure as to what the two numbers stamped on the plate mean as the writing next to them have worn away. Model number and serial number maybe?
  7. Thanks for the replies. Does £248 sound a lot for an in-drum brake?
  8. Just been quoted £248 + vat + carriage for the brake assembly for a warn M12000 from Arbil. I only needed the spring but have to buy the complete unit. Does anyone know of another (ie. less expensive) source for this part? I tried to give PG winches a call but they appear to be no longer trading.
  9. thanks paintman, much appreciated.
  10. Does anyone have to hand the tappet settings for a 2.5 VM Rangie please.
  11. It's the Low Emission Zone in London - another means by which Robbing Ken can extract money out of us to enhance his lavish lifestyle.
  12. ...or this one HERE from Devon 4x4
  13. ..as above, it will only go on in one of four positions. And if the steering wheel doesn't point in the right direction remove and re-align the steering wheel, it's a lot easier than re-aligning the drop arm (so long as you've got a steering wheel puller, that is) Good luck getting the old drop arm off, by the way! If it won't budge smack it on the SIDE with a large lump hammer against a solid surface first.
  14. I use an Oakes one from www.automec.co.uk that fits in a vice and uses different dies to make either a male or female flare. Really good bit of kit.
  15. I've just changed the output shaft seal on mine without having to strip the box down - details HERE
  16. i've been able to pick up lengths of wire rope, unused, from Sodbury Sortout for as little as £5. But that is the only redeeming feature it has. I've managed to totally knacker two wire ropes on two consecutive outings, mainly by winching with drive to the wheels at the same time. It goes slack on the drum as the wheels bite, then tightens up as drive is lost, resulting in a badly crushed and kinked rope only fit for the bin. If I could afford plasma I would buy it like a shot, no hesitation.
  17. Here's my pickup. Didn't bob it myself so can't help you with how to do it, but if you want some close-up pictures give me a shout.
  18. Thanks Chris for delivering the ignition leads to me at Tixover. That wasn't the last of my problems - we were up til midnight rebuilding a starter motor (unsuccessfully) then trying to get hold of another one.
  19. I succeeded in my mission not to come last, coming in 27th out of 31. It was hard work with 265/75 Grizzlys, a lot of the punches were nigh on impossible for us, but very satisfying to get some of the easier ones. Oh yes, and someone (ie. me) fell in the lake trying to secure a ground anchor to the bank at Yarwell . Went straight through the ice and under, couldn't even touch the bottom!! Many thanks to the marshalls for pulling the bobtail out too, I'd still be there now if it wasn't for them. But I've come to one conclusion : I NEED SIMEXES!! The difference between 27th place (me) and 7th (Tony Baskill) Nice!!
  20. I'll be there, trying to finish better than last in the bobtail. Got no cage so will be taking it easy just in it for the grin factor.
  21. I finally got around to taking some photos of the finished article. I decided to weld the mounting plate mid way up the chassis rails. It is welded horizontally across the front of the rails, horizontally along the length of the rails, then vertically up the sides and finally horizontally along the front cross member, so is welded in three dimensions if you like. Its stood up to some pretty tough winching so I'm quite pleased with it, although I need to scrap the bumper which is the original with a section removed from the centre and replace it with some welded on box section, as it bends very easily when up against trees.
  22. Simple and cheap? just spray the electrics with motorcycle chain wax and you'll be amazed at the difference, so long as you don't get water in the air filter.
