  1. Nice work. At least now I won't have to worry about your wings so much. Tray back next?
  2. There's been a lot of confusion and mis-understaning on this issue so I was just making the point as a lot of people may not appreciate that there are events outside the MSA when people use the words ANY and ALL. 4x4 Adventures for one. Be interesting to see who else might choose to organise events outside of the MSA umbrella especially in the light of this farce over implmenting this license regulation change.
  3. Not ANY challenge, you only need a license if you are going to enter MSA regulated/insured events.
  4. 663 or 664 is about the biggest single battery you can fit in a 90/110 seatbox. These have are commonly fitted to small trucks/plant and have plenty of umph. 110-115Ahr and 750-1000 CCA depending on spec. I paid about £65 from my local battery specialist when I last bought one, for my Iveco. But be careful some are slightly bigger than others and cover the terminals, the rear one will be close to the lid.
  5. It's a land rover. Does it have the little windows either side of the rear door? They are more of a worry. From a security perspective the side windows will make little difference, unless you sort out the other windows and doors. If you're worried about breaking them, than that's different matter. How "extreme" are you planning on going? I have generally found alpine lights to be more vulnerable than side windows.
  6. I beg to differ. I'd say it's VIC time and let the inspector decide if it need's an SVA. It won't always be the same answer.
  7. If you are going to end up with much reduced rope capacity, just put the shorter rope on the original unmodified winch as you might not have enough to worry about bunching anyway.
  8. If your weight differences are that big keep a set of standard rear springs for when you are not on 'expedition'. Only take 1/2 hour to swap.
  9. Cable routing would be a problem but having forwards winch mounted at rear of vheicle and vice versa will give good seperation of hawse and drum and that is generally enough to encourage the cable to wind evenly on to the drum.
  10. Another vote for them, if they are the models with the shock cording that clips around the poles to save the bother of threading them through then they are very quick and easy to put up.
  11. As said 3.7 should sort your problems
  12. If the axle casings are both 7 bolt then it will be a straight swap. Not sure when then changed from 6 bolt, think it was early 80's.
  13. Harsh? - get a thicker skin. That isn't harsh. I can do harsh, but it would probably get deleted. Wise advice? - As you say there are many views on things, some more valid than others.
  14. Unfortunately not all are quite so community minded and prepared to help out. I'm currently without a 4x4 so had to manage getting around during the recent snow in a Ford Focus. If I had been unfortunate enough to get stuck I know which bunch I'd like to meet.
  15. You can't expect data from a government agency to be 100% correct Besides we all know there are lots of pre-1973 defenders out there
  16. Failure reasons make interesting reading. Although nothing we didn't already know, lighting across all the LR range and body rot on discos
  17. Note there are at least two different sizes of 'flat' washer, and hence I guess spacer too. FRC8002 has a slightly smaller hole than FTC3179. Obviously the radius is the same as the bearing is the same, so it is just the position of the flat. FRC8002 will not fit on a stub axle designed for FTC3179. FTC3179 will fit on a stub axle designed for FRC8002, but may not lock as effectivly due to small amount of rotational play.
  18. To warm the gas canister up? I used to carry a zippo for that very job.
  19. Best keep to a max of 4.5m for on road towing, don't want to get a tug from the boys in blue
  20. A common mod seems to be to remove the webs between the ports on the manifold. I guess it allows some movement/flex and reduces the stress on the studs.
  21. I have fitted Iveco Daily, Pug and VWP washer jets on wiper arms, mainly on comp safari cars. Would use Iveco or Pug again.
