  1. If it's a factory V8 with an LT85 box then the V8/ZF combo will slot straight in on the same mounting positions.
  2. I think there was enough ambiguity in what was said on TG for it to be taken the wrong way either through misunderstanding or by those with an agenda against green laning. Equally there was enough ambiguity in what was said that it may be the case the Guy Ritchie does actually enjoy green laning and winching as a joint venture, just as some might say they enjoy green laning and sight seeing. Either way it was not a very good comment to be aired on national TV.
  3. IMHO it is between RV4 and Pete's 205. I can't quite decide who to vote for. What might swing it for RV4 is it worked straight out of the box and has the results to prove it. The 205 has had a few problems as mentioned and I think (from memory so forgive me if I'm wrong) has had a few DNF's. However has showed promise and with reliability should put in some good results, especially with a bit more power.
  4. Not to mention a glossy cover shot
  5. Unless you make it a single make championship with very tight limits on mods it won't be a level playing field, some people will always have better vehicles than others, be that through fab skills, ingenuity, bank balance, etc. Is pot hunting so important to some people that the class structure has to be so narrow and stringent that they only compete against very similar vehicles? Or even on similar budgets? This years AWDC comp safari championship was won by a class 7 car (OK it was one of the most expensive cars in the series) as it was last year by a different class 7 car, and IIRC a class 6 car in 2006. So it's not always the so called 'top' class (class 8) that wins. What happend to going out having a good time competing and measuring your performance against similar vehicles and feeling smug when you beat vehicles deemed to be better or costing more? We don't complain about some cars in a 'lower' class having more power than us because they have the budget to buy more modern powerful engines, and in some cases it's twice the power. We don't win pots in 'national' level events, but enjoy competing against a good level of competition, and occasionaly get a nice warm feeling when we get a good result against 'better' cars. We can (and do) enter 'local club' events and stand more chance of a pot, but that's not the reason we enter, we want a good days racing for the money, that's what it's about. I guess people compete for their own differing reasons and you'll never please everyone.
  6. You should have checked the tech archive Nige, there is a very similar calculator linked in there, and it also lists the 1.192 ratio LT230 for factory V8 90's. Good informative post though, and glad you got the gearing you wanted in the end.
  7. [quote name=HoggyN' date='04 November 2009 - 08:54 AM' timestamp='1257324887' post='444698] That's daft! They are selling the 150 piece set for £70 less than the 120 piece set They are also selling a 36 piece 1/4" set for less than the cost of a replacement ratchet.
  8. And elastic bands to keep your sandwiches together?
  9. Just demonstates how over priced Halfords are. Battery for the wifes car was £40 more in Halfords than what I paid at a battery specialist. However I did have to wait till monday morning for the battery specialist, so the fact Halfords are open on a sunday afternoon is handy, assuming you have a trade card and can pay sensible money.
  10. I even still have all my own teeth
  11. Sorry mate, I would have lent a hand but I'm washing my hair this weekend.
  12. Pneumatic activation for hi/lo and difflock and a couple bottons/switches on the tunnel? At least that will give you a different set of problems to play with
  13. http://www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk are good for insuring comp cars for occasional road use
  14. Did you read Chris's link? Unless you are going for a proper deep cycle battery the so called 'leisure' batteries are not that different from any other lead acid battery. If you must use a generator to charge that batteries then do use a 240V battery charger, it'll be kinder to the batteries, even more so it's an intelligent 4 stage one such as CTek. Although as you have a perfectly good alternator anyway I would question the value in using a generator unless you are taking the generator and running it for 240V anyway.
  15. Ah that's where we're going wrong we obviously need more power
  16. The comp safari car I co-drive in has a quaife LSD in the back, and yes it does help get the back end out, which suits my drivers prefered cornering style, but it's not really suseptible to excesive fishtailing. Though you do have to be careful on side slopes, gentle throttle application or you'll soon be facing up hill.
  17. If it's done properly so the only connection from the alternator output goes direct to the battery and the vehicle electrics all run from the non-battery side of the isolator I can't see how the vehicle could run on. It's like saying that the vehicle would run on when you switch the ignotion off because the battery is still connected to the alternator. Also as mentioned it's not a diode it's a load resistor for the alternator to dump any residual 'power' through.
  18. Well at the start of the event you did say you where only bothered about not bending wings, doors, or glass, you didn't mention anything about the bits underneath! Cleaned the mud off my boots and don't appear to have picked up any damage, so all ready for the next event
  19. Try not to wake all the hotel guests I was going to try and blag a seat for this trip, but think I'll be blagging a seat going very fast round seven sisters that weekend. So quite possibly lots of screaming also
  20. Try this, I've been using version 2.1 for ages and it imports the grid ref as a poi. Must upgrade to 2.2 to see what's improved.
