  1. I know a fella who heated up a spanner and bent the head round an obtuse angle to reach the places other spanners would not. Sorry i can not picture this, the spare wheel carrier on my 90 goes straight through the back door and is not a problem for access. you got any pictures that might make it clearer?
  2. hope you've got a comprehensive set of spanners also, take a picture of it when you get it, and then look back in a years time to see whats changed....
  3. did anyone go to this, what was it like, any pics? did they make you cart your tent and spares with you or did they relax the rule in the end?
  4. i think you are going to get your mud, its been raining for about 3 days now and is forecast to continue!!! I am sure the marshals will take this into account when setting the punches and positioning their deck chairs for prime seats of others misfortune!!! all in good humour of course :-)
  5. i assume you have checked with your local army surplus store? there are a few about and if they dont have them on the shelf, they might be able to give you a time and a cost to get some. At least then you will know instead of waiting and hoping to get lucky on e-bay.
  6. ps. bin the viscous and fit an electric (from a breakers and get a thermostat from RS components) fan. This will give you more room to fit your rad and intercooler whichever way you chose to swing.
  7. is that a confession, trying to justify the buy!!!!
  8. sorry if this is a stupid question, but once you have identified 'if' and 'how high'. What are you going to do to fix the handling? Cause i have a 2" lift on my 90 and it drives fine (as can be expected) no problems motorway, a-roads, off road and 2" seems standard for a lift. So they will drive no probs with 'a lift', is knowing the lift hight the issue, or could it be more wheel balancing, offset, play in the steering, steering box on its way out, track rods etc? just food for thought.
  9. congratulations!!! welcome to the world of land rovers. once they are in your blood, your hooked for life. Good luck.
  10. go to halfords, tell em you want a colour match and give em your reg. they should be able to tell you the colour and maybe a RAL number for your sprayer. Dont know if this will work, just an idea?
  11. from the looks of it, the 1st bump it hits. it will self strip into all the donar vehicles instantaneously.
  12. Hi, i know there are different strokes for different folks and all that, but i was advised to put the sensor in the top hose before the rad as it is the engine temperature your fan is responding to and you dont want everything to be running at maxi chat temp wise before your fan kicks in (Also the top hose was easier access). but either way as long as it functions and stops any overheating :-) also You may wish to consider wiring through a relay? apparently electric fans draw a lot of current, this was another grape vine recommendation i heard. good luck with it.
  13. hi Plasticbadger, its smokin like a good un, mr mechanic recons bent conrod!!! boo hoo. but rather now than in 3 weeks time. thanks for yr assistance at the watering hole. managed to limp home. it was a bloomin great weekend though, cant wait till next time.
  14. Hey Rich, u want to lend me that nice shiney TD5 to tow my truck to transilvania? i am i need of a tow vehicle!!! I promise i wont steal the turbo and intercooler off it for the comp. although after last weekend, i might need the whole engine. ha ha evil laugh!!!
  15. now i just need to get the truck together ... So what state is your truck in? you got much prep work to do?
  16. I have had the same problem but on another vehicle (not my landy), was working away with the radio on, hiss of gas, the coil popped and brown gunk oozed out of the top. Did a few posts on the owners club and the consensus was: i am running an old ford pinto engine that requires 9v coil running off a 12v battery. something to do with the extra voltage required to boost on start up and then runs at 9v when driving. To prevent the coil burning out there is a 'balast resistor' that the coil supply runs through. When you replaced your coil, did the old one have a balast resistor? does it need one?
  17. Cheers Scotian, Green laning everyday sounds fun. I have read Les's post about doing the 200tdi swap so i have an idea of what i will have to do for that bit, not sure if while everything is out it is worth chucking in the lower milage disco box in there. Then the mounts box will all line up, i will have more room and i think i can use the TD down pipe because of the luurvly extra room, so i dont have to fabricate anything for the exhaust. But what are the negatives, need to move the engine mounts fwd, will this upet the engine gearbox alignment or upset the 90 weight distribution and any other install probs or anything like that?
  18. Morning all, I have an E reg 90 with a TD that has just packed in, i have a disco that i am going to take a 200tdi from. The Disco running gear is in pretty good condition and has a lot less miles on it than the LT77 in my 90. I have been told the bell housing is a lot longer on the Disco box and if i want to use the gear box i will have to move the engine mounts fwd in the 90. Also moving the engine fwd will move the weight further fwd over the front axel. I will be using the 90 for off roading mainly. When i do the engine swap, is it worth swapping for the disco gearbox also? Anyone who has already done this, what are the pro's and con's, any advice welcome? Cheers
  19. Cheers, It will make it easier locating an engine if i can use a Disco TDI. i'll dig the welder out and knock up a down pipe depending on how it goes. Thanks
  20. morning all, I have an E reg 90 with a TD engine, i am looking to fit a 200TDI, there are plenty available from Disco's but i know the turbo position is a problem. Does anyone know if the manifold profile on the TD block is the same as on the TDI - can i use the exhaust manifold off my TD on a Disco TDI so the turbo is held high and does not hit the bulkhead? or any advice on what to do please? Cheers
