  1. Although the engine may feel very hot, it might not even have a thermostat in it. I have had many of the engines through my hands where it had been removed. I can't remember now if the V8 90/110s had "Otter" switch as a temp sender on the top of the manifold. Held in by three screws. That was certainly different than the later types.
  2. I would agree with Elbekko on this one. Either that or the tyre, but I would expect Michelin to be not far out. Budget brands are a bit hit and miss for balance. Also, try breaking the bead and turn the tyre in relation to the rim. This is why you should have your very own tyre machine, and balancer 🙂
  3. My experience with Flux is somewhat different. Hope you never have to claim.
  4. Don't use braided lines personally, but people I know who do, use Rally Design in Whitstable ? Kent.
  5. Or a fire blanket ? They are cheap.
  6. I think this hits the nail on the head really. As an example I paid £147 fully comp for one of my vans this year, but I also had quotes for £900 for the same thing, and I go through the charade of checking prices every year. I believe most companies have parameters on what risks they will accept.
  7. No good using the comparison websites for this, you are wasting your time. Try ringing RH, Firebond, Peter Best, or Lancaster. I wouldn't touch Adrian Flux personally. I assume you are using it as your primary vehicle. Most of us have other vehicles, and are elderly (at least 40) so can get away with classic policies. Companies are wise to parent as main driver with a teenager as named driver. Could get away with this when I was your age, but not now. Because of where you live, they may also insist on it being garaged, or at the very least on a private drive. Don't forget that insurance companies will do their utmost not to pay out. So do not give then any excuse, or you could end up with a very large financial burden for life. Also not unknown for them to do some snooping on Google Earth !
  8. You can see, if you look close up, that the flange is a steel cutout that has been welded on, probably after some of the casting has been cut away. There are also some grinder nicks, from the cleaning up. They may well be new castings, but to me look like they have been bought in and modified, presumably as a complete unit, and my concern would be distortion of the machined surfaces.
  9. Up close some of the casting looks pre enjoyed and painted over. I wonder if the welding would affect the dimensions or accuracy (bent) I would prefer to see an intermediate adaptor bracket.
  10. I am not adverse to have an EV, but for the moment its not a solution for me. Mainly on cost grounds, towing, and range. I did think they were quick to blame the RR for the fire, plus that it was diesel too. The ICE hater crowd as usual jumped on THEIR bandwagon with the double whammy of ICE AND diesel. (do you see what I did there ?) In the footage I have seen, the RRs headlamps appear to be on, and the fire looks to be behind it. If it was the cause, could it have been a faulty Webasto pre/parking heater, which I believe they are all fitted with, along with most high end ICE vehicles, both diesel AND petrol. Also in my nearly fifty years of driving, and covering way more than a million miles all over the country, I have personally witnessed around (not seen on the news) around ten car fires over that time, and half a dozen trucks. I have witnessed two EVs on fire within the last six weeks.
  11. Vapour ignition is the same for fuel gasses kept in liquid form under pressure. The liquid itself will not ignite.
  12. Nickname since first day at Secondary School. Being the youngest and smallest in the class. Got me into a lot of trouble though. Became target for bullies and I developed "Little Man Syndrome".
  13. Have had problems with DPD here too. Used to have great driver (Polish) who had been doing this area (rural) a long time. No problems whatsoever. He left to work for a timber company at double the wage. Ever since, we get "cannot find the address" or "no one at home" or they just don't turn up, probably because they have run out of time. Only ones we have no problems with are ANC, DX, and Parcel Force. BiL never received a six cylinder engine block for his Renault truck, that was strapped to a pallet. Tuffnells lost it, and the sender never got it back ! How they could lose that beats me.
  14. Here are a couple of our front garden ornaments. The 333 is a highway tractor, so it has a high top gear for motorway cruising. Note the full flow air conditioning, and self cleaning windows. It is also ULEZ compliant. This is what I use to cut the top field. Also got two Fordson Majors which are as tough as old boots and will start with a foot of snow on the bonnet. Only problem is with these, is that they were designed when a PTO was the new thing out, so the output speed is not ideal. Also what is called dead drive so can be dangerous. Then there is the Unimog 406 which also has a PTO. But the mounted crane makes it a bit top heavy to mow on a slope. All this things need not cost much, but like the Land Rover, you can spend a fortune on unnecessary frippery if you want to ! At least there are no electronic things that do not work properly. Indeed there are no electrics. The mice have taken care of that ! I start the tractors with a slave battery.
  15. The "new take offs" as was. I have often wondered why a new bulkhead with all the pedals, dash, and wiring loom etc would be taken off, as well as lots of other things.
  16. I have got a little one That I keep the mini digger in. 2.4 x 2.4. It has been up three years and is OK at the moment, but I suspect the cover is starting to degrade. Does try to blow away when windy if not pegged or weighed down. Ex boss has a couple too but much bigger. On one the cover went brittle, and tore over the frame after not even a year. All these including mine are green. Near neighbour has a much older grey one, which was made of far better material. Costco did some a while back, dont know if they still do, but the colour is off white and are MUCH better quality. Overall, I would not rush to buy another one, and feel they are a bit overpriced. When mine gives up, I have a canvas tarpaulin to put over the frame.
  17. For what its worth, I have had a series 2a on a K and a 3 on a J. I have seen a 2a on an L too.
  18. I did think of a 740 axle with LSD and disc brakes. Used to be able to get them for next to nothing, but rare now, and sadly the ones I have seen are off of banger raced cars, and might well be bent or damaged in some way.
  19. Um, it might be doing just that, with a modern(ish) diesel conversion maybe. Its not a sports car anyway, and I am more interested in MPG, so I can use it more. The SD1 autos had a 2.83, (that might actually be the solution ! ) and they were not that slow. Three speed and no overdrive top remember. For my sins I actually liked the TR7, a shameful admission according to some, with a view to converting it to V8, but never got round to it. Too many LRs ! 20 odd years ago I was offered one for nothing, green with a tan tartan ? interior and Webasto sunroof. Had nowhere to put it at the time.
  20. Yes they were. Might have been higher than that ! Can't remember offhand. The V8 was 3.54, same as RRC and Defenders.
  21. Can lower ratio CWPs be got for the Rover axles/diff ? Something like 2.8 to 1 ? Not for a LR though, but a P5 Rover car, which of course has smaller wheels.
  22. A SMALL project ! The OP has has a lot to learn
  23. You have not stolen anything (I hope) so I don't see any problem at all. Probably not in the spirit of the regulations, but as most older LRs about have been fiddled with in one way or another, and have had used body parts from all over the place, will not be any different from most other vehicles out there, including the vehicles of most members of this forum. So just do it.
