  1. They are enough to work by and will draw almost no power, for the cost of them give them a try.
  2. I bought some, fine as work light but don't kid yourself that they are anything like real bulbs.
  3. I have seen waste oil on ebay for over 50p litre! I don't pay for oil, there seems to be no problem round these parts. I am luck enough to have very committed user who gives 100l a fortnight. Before I started collecting it he was burying it in his bin and sending it to landfill with all the rest of the rubbish. My favourite place to ask is the pub, if food is a side line they will probably change the oil as a matter of course once a week, leaving good clean oil for us. I hear from a friend that nursing homes are a good supply too, his wife is a visiting health professional so he has access to all sorts of homes. I think it's a shame that people are put off by the appearance that making bio is complex, realistically all you need to do is one GCSE level experiment, in my case at least, two or three times and then work with an average of the results. The fuel that I make is of a good reliable quality in more than sufficient quantity.
  4. I don't have time to write an article, all you need to know is available on Journey To Forever. I bought all the chemicals for testing and such through ebay, I tested the first 3 or 4 batches of oil but they were consistent so now I assume all the oil needs the same amount. This only works if your oil comes from the same regular suppliers. My processor is a steel connical vessel that I welded up from scrap sheet and an air con fan motor as a mixer. I water wash in a 200l barrel which circulates the water and oil with a used central heating pump. After washing I store in another barrel before pumping through a fuel filter. Simples!
  5. I have managed to resist getting involved here, but....... Why is no one suggesting running on used oil, which is free (mostly). I'm not suggesting using as is but converting to bio diesel. I haven't bought real diesel for 3 years. (OK the odd litre or two when caught away from home.) I started off buying Methanol and Caustic in not ridiculous quantities and process in my garage with a processor built from scrap which cost less than £10. Nowadays I buy large quantities of Methanol, particularly, in order to keep costs down so my fuel costs in the region of 12p a litre. I will supply chemicals, to anyone who will pick them up, for reasonable cost if you want to have a go.
  6. I assume that road legal is still a requirement?
  7. Flower arranging, pretty good at crochet as well.
  8. I don't see the problem, looks just like mine..............not! I'm sure he's really good with flower arranging and stuff. A fine example of why I let someone else build mine.
  9. Just to be pedantic, if you want Argoshield then BOC is your only option. We used Corgon from Linde for a while but the deal wore out so we were enticed back by BOC. We collect from Mercury Welding in Horsham who are a BOC agent. When we used Linde it was delivered by Four Seasons Fuels in Coneyhurst.
  10. Steve is only down the road from me, I guess I can deliver to him, wish i'd thought of that.
  11. Thanks Ian, i'll take you up on that. Thank you all.
  12. I may need a collection made in Bridgnorth if I win on ebay, will go in a normal car boot no problem, preferably someone who can get to Howlin Wolf if poss. Volunteers?
  13. I think what Nigel is trying to say is that :- "IMHO with Si Rs anchor available you are wasting you time making your own," A couple of hundred.
  14. Nothing further to report about the whereabouts of my tyres but.... Out of interest you may consider that your tyres (or any other part or accessory) are not insured when not in or on your vehicle. I have tried the domestic and commercial insurance companies for a property claim but both state that anything related to a motorised vehicle is excluded. I have just tried the NFU who I insure with and they won't cover anything which is not in or on the vehicle. Basically no insurance, no matter how hard you try.
  15. You're going to have to be a bit more specific about the type, quantity and quality of stuff you want to cut.
  16. Right, James, get your sht together!! I don't think I can live without one of them!
  17. The problem with the scoring is that it relies on the punches being punched in the correct box on the card. ie. the number 1 punch in the box marked 1. All very well if you have the correct number clearly written on the punch. Trouble is that after a few teams have been through a site, and some times from the start, numbers are (or become) illegible so one relies on information from a marshal who, through no fault of his own, can only guess what the correct number is. Non of this would make any difference at all except that the score per punch is reduced according to the number of teams that get it. Picture a scenario in which a site is set out with punches varying from the totally simple to the near impossible. A team clears the site and is the only team to get the near impossible punch 31. As the day goes on thirty or so teams have visited punch number 13 which is a dead easy drive up causing the number to become obscured by mud. The next team to reach 13 can't read the number so asks the marshal for clarification. The marshal looks at the punch and decides it says 31, so halving the points that should have been scored for punch 31. The AWDC use a different, electronic based system which has a unique key on each vehicle which records the presence of a unique transponder. The key records the punch number and the time it was reached etc. This sysem allows the organiser to identify teams suspected of causing damage to a section or entering a section by a disallowed route.
  18. There's a proper extracted cabinet available from the same place you're getting your tig welder from Nige.
  19. I'm no expert but I believe that the XTC is run under MSA rules which are more akin to the Comp Safari rules, perhaps that's where the mud guard thing comes from. Challenge has it's own set of rules in the Blue Book this year.
  20. It's not as if YOU had to do anything other than sit there for just over a minute. It is a bit offputting though, I guess that's the price of fame.
  21. If anyone sees tyres they suspect, I realise it is hard to tell definitively that they are mine, however there are a couple of definite identifiers which I can describe on the phone, not least that they have the marks from the beadlock bolts on the bead.
  22. If you do spot anything there are usually police on site, you could call me if you like and I will call the police. 07977 441808 Crime number NH1/025991/10 if you need it.
  23. If you are going to the Newbury sortout this weekend then please keep a look out for my stolen wheels and tyres. Wheels are black powder coated steel six stud wheels with bright plated beadlock rings. Tyres are Fedima Sirocco 35 10.50 16 which are quite well rock damaged but not overly worn having not been used on road. Any help would be great.
  24. The problem is with some chassis, not with the joint design, why don't you give Si a quick ring to ask him what the potential problems might be. 01403 888388. He doesn't bite.
  25. I'm disappointed that there are only 4 rounds this year, however, Neil and his ever dwindling team do a fabulous job, even with the unfortunate introduction of the extra cost for MSA the Howlin Wolf represents a good value event with camping in the price, marshals, trophies and superb organisation. I would like 8 new sites a year but I realise that it isn't feasible.
