  1. Thanks Western, Mine is a 3/4 tilt but I think it will follow the same profile as the straight bit of the roof (I am hoping so) No reason why they would make it different? Andy
  2. Hi, I have just bought a tilt for my 90. I have cage on it at present that bolts through the hard top (on the curve) Question is - does a tilt follow the line of a hard-top and will I be able to sandwich the canvas in the same way as I did my hard top? As where my cage sits, there is no room for a conventional hoop/sticks. Thanks Andy
  3. Hi, I am about to convert my 90 from a Hard Top to a Truck Cab with 3/4 tilt. My Log Book (V5) says it's a 4x4 Utility, will I have to notify DVLA and tell them of the change? Thanks AD90
  4. My experience of POR 15 suggests that the only thing it sticks to is human skin, I would avoid. AD90
  5. Hi, I've not used one, but they are based down the road from my in-laws in Pretoria. I have had a look around their place and a good look at their tents and trailers. They look well put together and the trailer-tent combos have a few nice features. Like all these roof-top tents they are built for sunnier climes so not sure how they would perform here in the UK. 6. A little OT, but I only use Eklind Allen Keys, best I've found so far, but still can't hang on the ball-end. AD90
  7. I have some brake lines to replace, I did buy a Laser flaring tool but it's useless. Any recommendations on one that can be used under the vehicle? Thanks AD90
  8. I get all my paint from Spencer Coatings, check out their web-site www.spencercoatings.co.uk Really helpfull and their stuff is good, we use it offshore. I use their recommended system for Steel (Extended Life) Primer: Hi-dur Zinc Phosphate Primer Intermediate: Standard MIO Primer Topcoat: PU100 Finish Wish I had started using it years ago instead of wasting money on Hammerite and POR-15, I might not be so good at welding if I had! Oh, and the factory is very local to me :-) AD90
  9. I have constant battle with bad connections on my 90. I have replaced the lamp holder but need to replace the connectors on the loom side. Any ideas where to get them? Thanks AD90
  10. POR-15, I used it and the only thing it stuck to was my skin! Before parting with your hard-earned for it do a search, don't think you'll find too many fans. I now use Tetrosyl Shutz with added waxoyl and find it much better. AD90
  11. I've got one of these "Halfords 3T Speedy Lift Hydraulic Garage Jack Cat code: 644203-0" I've had it about three years and can't fault it. Nice big saddle, very controlled lowering, great for the 90 and the Alhambra but a little to high for the A4. AD90
  12. Agreed mmgemini, but I prefer not having to flare ends in the field, either way it's safer. All that said, I would not be averse to a bodge to get me out of a challenge section. AD90
  13. Never mind bodging - with my suggestion and a spare flexi (they're not expensive or bulky to carry) you can get home safely, be it from Africa or ASDA, with no bodges!
  14. For a field repair do a search for "3/16" Solderless Compression Union" carry a few of them and a length of pipe and a repair can be effected without the need for flaring and maintaining brakes operational. Not sure they would pass the MOT, but they do work, I've done it (in fact I even got through an MOT with one) AD90
  15. I am looking for some new circlip pliers. In a previous job I had a set of Blue Point, great but I had to leave them :-( I have spotted these Beta ones, http://www.motogf.co.uk/Products.aspx?cat=13278809 any thoughts/experience? Thanks AD90
  16. Well, the head is torqued. No problems with the replacement tool, so let's hope I was unlucky. AD90
  17. I know all about good quality tools, most of my home kit is Britool but with a mixture of other stuff I have picked up along the way. I used to use Snap-On at work and although it is good quality, it is not (IMHO) worth the money. I have burst a fair few Snap-On sockets in my time and yes they do replace them with little or no quibble; but they way I see it you paid for at least 3 replacements at Day 1! As far as my dilema goes, having trawled the InterWeb; Neither Snap-On, Britool, Teng, Facom, Beta, Halfords, Mac, Proto,,, the list goes on, make the 140mm M10 Ribe required for the VAG 1.8T. So I was left with the decision of Sealey, Franklin, Laser and after MUCH searching I have now came across AST. I am thinking that VAG Mechanics get theirs supplied by the factory? Replacement tool arrived today, I'll let you know. AD90
  18. Replacement part did not arrive yesterday (I bet they balme the postal strike) I am still not confident that the replacement tool will do the job :-( Looks like this Audi could be off the road a looooooong time! AD90
  19. I guess you can get anything on-line, but I was looking for them locally. Ho-Hum! I pick up the replacement tomorrow, so fingers crossed that I can get the head finished. AD90
  20. Slightly OT; I am repairing a Audi A4 1.8T, the head bolts are M10 RIBE. I struggled to find one 140mm long and ended up buying a kit of head-bolt tools from Sealey, first Sealey tools I have ever bought. They were from the Professional range and have a lifetime warranty. BUT it broke on the first bolt of the 3rd (out of 4) tightening sequence. They have agreed to replace it, but have I been unlucky or is this typical? Thanks AD90
  21. For 2" lift, we bend standard ones and weld a length of angle-iron along the whole length (on the bottom) That seems to work, the amount they are shortened by is not enough to worry about - they will bind on the brackets a bit though, so I can't imagine what +5" would do! That's why the good after-market ones are offset at the axle end. AD90
  22. Yes, We had a pre-Td4 diesel, had it for 5 years, took it from 48,000 miles to 110,000 and had good reliability. The biggest issue was changing the VCU before it did any damage, other than that it was normal wear and tear. Only got rid of it when SWMBO demanded a people carrier, that she cursed at the first sign of snow. AD90
  23. Has everyone considered what it would be like being blind? I am paranoid about eye protection, if I lost my right eye, I would be classed as blind! I recommend Arco, there are depots in most cities, big selection, and something for all pockets. AD90
