  1. I've watched all 3 episodes thus far... The mk2: What a waste. Why go to the bother of locating a rust free South African import to then rally the thing in a muddy field and stage a crash? If they'd put that back to standard it would have made more cash. Zetec and XE conversions are fine especially in the rally world but my old 1.6 Sport Harrier edition sold a few years ago at £24k. Only addition was two up/two down cibies on the front. The MG: why? Just why? Then the Series: The concept intrigued me but the execution baffled me. To quote "let's see if the axle fits" was followed by a piece of 50mm box section with a pear shaped 10mm plate on each end being threaded through the springs. The stud pattern looked as though they were going to attach the swivels onto them. How did they alter the steering etc? They did focus more on the strop between the two experts. It's a shame they did it to a perfectly presentable and useable classic...as mentioned by Fridge why not do it to a wreck? It would surely have gleaned more profit if that's what they're aim is? And the bikes. Beardy guy no2 tells the talented guy to draw it....then gives the drawing to the more talented fibreglass guys who do the actual creation. Then the talented painter guy makes it look good leaving beardy guy no2 to bolt the panels on and proclaim he made it. What I like to call a cheque-book build....
  2. Knew you'd have that info Almost covered the keyboard in tea when I saw the price of it though!! £200 for a VSR! Jeeso...
  3. Having a look at what you have in the loom, you'll need SRB600 relay... http://www.bowerspartsonline.co.uk/brands/lucas/genuine-lucas-srb600-33419-12v-33ra-60a-4-pin-split-charge-relay this will take care of your two small ring terminal br & br/wh and the two spade connectors. The brown with (?) is that a threaded rod?, if so that will replace the battery clamp bolt on the primary battery, large ring terminal br/wh to 2nd battery. Black wire...Looks like an earth to me VSR...can't seem to find a part number but maybe Ralph can? Gr/bk wire...no idea. Looking at a td5 loom the Gr/bk does the low fuel warning light on the cluster. It'll be ignition switched..is this Gr/bk on the VSR multiplug? Not many bullet connectors on a td5 loom though.
  4. Had a look at a couple of Optrel models and they're highly rated too.
  5. Came yesterday had a brief play with the TIG, at last I can see the puddle lol
  6. Does look like a Hope product.... https://www.hopetechnical.co.uk/safe-t-step/ cant see a listing though...may be discontinued like the defender. Good luck in getting a response from them though. I emailed them as I had ripped the pipe vice mounts out my 2week old rear step whilst threading 2" steel (they were just spot welded in). That was 2012...still waiting lol
  7. The Silverado doesn't look that stuck?...I've had a D3 on road tyres stuck deeper in mud than that (to my shame lol). Took about 3hrs and lots of swearing to dig the behemoth out. The backhoe on the other hand looks exceedingly bogged, I'm sure one of those huge American big-rig wreckers with extra long cable winches could extract them without too much pain?
  8. Yes me too. Specs on the turbo look good, cutting in 500rpm lower should help reduce it "bogging down". Can't beat some hands on opinion.
  9. Oh well, order placed for a Speedglas 9100XXi...you only get one set of eyes . Must hide credit card statement from the Mrs.
  10. Yes, the UV filter minimises the risk of arc eye...still damn annoying seeing dots when trying not to dip the tungsten in the weld.
  11. I would like the 9100XX...I was trying to retain some sort of budget lol
  12. Looking for opinions from those that have TIGs and what helmets they use. I currently have a Speedglas for the MIG with shade ranges 9-13 and find it to be insensitive to the lower TIG currents When I purchased my TIG almost 2yrs ago I bought a Parweld helmet meant to be suitable for low amp stuff...it's the most unreliable POS I've used and uncomfortable to boot. Been back to the company for sensor faults which in their defence they have replaced under warranty. Still have no confidence in the thing darkening when it should and have been flashed more times with it than in the 10yrs of using the Speedglas! It wasn't expensive at £40 and I suppose the adage of you get what you pay for rings true. So, on the shortlist Miller digital elite lincoln electric 3350 ESAB A50 Not the cheapest and not the most expensive either...my TIGing needs all the help it can get so being able to see what I'm doing is a plus Any opinions welcomed
  13. Yes it would be nice to retain the ethos and character of the classic defender, the spy pics previewed earlier seem to discount it looking anything vaguely familiar to what we know (and love, occasionally lol) No mention of cost on the new G-class though...I imagine it's not going to be a cheap vehicle and will be interested to see the base model price and where that puts it in the pecking order.
  14. Power steering and alt belt (I've had one go and wipe out the other), socket set, 8/10/13 spanners and a specially modded 24mm spanner cut down to fit a fuel stop solenoid(and a spare solenoid) as it had a penchant for them. Hi-vis waterproof jacket, jump-leads, airline (I have OBA), a few recovery straps, shackles and snatch block, a few rags and a bag of cable ties and some duct tape . Sounds like a lot but it all fits neatly behind the seats and the rear bulkhead. I do have AA cover but being recovered is an admission of defeat lol
  15. Out! Life would be boring if we all wanted them to look like ex-military vehicles. I'm always amazed that how a vehicle that can cost their owners thousands of pounds to modify/personalise and improve seems to be frowned upon when they're not battered/bruised and covered in 30years worth of crud. Not a thing that tends to keep me awake at night worrying about though....
  16. I have similar to Mavericks suggestion (in red) but also one of these... https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F253199875641 my work supplies nomex and fire retardant ppe so the beanies/snoods we get are quite useful for welding protection too.
  17. Can't see it causing anything untoward, the 200 isnt exactly the hottest running of lumps and with our ambient temps being low combined with airflow it wouldn't get overly heated.
  18. I forgot not everyone is as prepared as the average Land Rover owner lol. Extinguishers should be at the exits though, it's pretty impressive what a 9kg extinguisher can deal with.
  19. So no sprinkler systems in the car park then? nice to see they had the foresight to take a pic but with only one car ablaze at the time surely a fire extinguisher may have delayed the spread until the professionals arrived...
  20. Higher fan speed is debatable but the controllability is not. As standard you have fart or furnace...this allows something in between
  21. I'd go for Bowies version with the inertia switch. Mounted on the bulkhead à la factory set up in the td5....also an ad-hoc immobiliser if need be
