  1. Thanks for all the replies For the rear axle I think i'm going to go with ARB locker 24 spline hubs from my old 110 v8 90 shafts What about flanges ? Are standard ones strong enough ?
  2. It would be best to jack the landy up a couple of inches, put axle stands under the chassis Then remove wheels and drop the axle down with a trolley jack Thats how i did it anyway
  3. There seems to be a lot of these being built at the moment, how long before the ministry catch up with them all
  4. The HD rings have longer bolts to fit HD turrets and the metal ring is thicker steel, so less likely to rust away like the standard ones do
  5. Panhard rod bushes ? Prop shaft UJ ?
  6. You can come to my graduation ceramony on the 20th if you want
  7. Chris, That sounds ideal for the on board air i've been meaning to install for a while now. I don't want to go to all the hassle of the air con route for something which won't get a lot of use I'll have a nose at your setup at 7S if you don't mind
  8. Thanks for all that info I know that i'll be going for an ARB air locker, just unsure about all the different makes of shaft and flanges
  9. W is usually the rev counter Thats all i know
  10. I'm trying to keep the landy as light as possible, so portals are out
  11. I used Machine Mart 5mm rivets to hold my tub together (about 150 of them ) Remember to use lots and lots and lots of sealant, I didn't use enough
  12. Thanks for the replies As i said in my first post, the diff will be changed for a locker in the near future so just looking at shafts / flanges at the moment Looks like changing the axles may be cheaper in the long run, although the front axle was completely rebuilt (professionally) less than a year ago
  13. The next stage in the development of my landy is to upgrade the axle parts for heavy duty stuff. I am going to start with just the rear axle for now (Then front when funds allow). Going to be fitting an air locker in the future so want to get it ready before hand. (As part of the whole improving reliability plan) I've got early 1985 RRC axles which are 10 spline i've been told, with the non separate flanges What do i need ? What manufactures do i need to look at ? What sort of money am i going to have to spend (as little as possible ) ? I know nothing about HD axle parts, so any links, experiences, recommendations welcome
  14. True At the moment, mine is made from two 4ft section, done the first one this afternoon, finish it tommorow hopefully
  15. Thanks for that That bar is a bit pricey
  16. I'm in the process of making a towing bar for recovery and was wondering if there are any regs regarding max/min length, size etc etc ?
  17. I just fitted new shocks (ES9000) to the front yesterday so won't be replacing them Not had understeer before, but have had a bit of oversteer and a bit of rear wheel steer
  18. As the landy is used as my road car for about 95% of the time, i'd like to improve the ride a bit, just fitted some softer springs and can notice the differece They'll be disconnected for off road use so as to not affect articulation
  19. Thanks for all the replies but i'm still none the wiser I'm thinking that the front might be the best, as with all that weight on the axle, it's less likely to lift a wheel
  20. I'm planning on fitting a very stiff one but can't decide on the front or back
  21. I going to install an anti roll bar to my hardtop TDi defender and want to know where it would be most effective Front or Rear axle ? What do ya all reckon ? I'm going to have to make chassis and axle mounts so either one is as much work.
  22. I changed my turrets this morning, really easy, undo the large nut on the top of the damper and undo the 4 smaller bolts (13mm) around the base of the turret. If the bolts shear, then drop the axle down until the spring is loose, then pull out and replace the retaining ring luckily all my bolts came off easy
  23. A true "tray" back i saw at Eastnor
