  3. Hi All, I'm in the middle of carrying out maintenance and converting my 200tdi discovery into a tourer. I have 2 questions pertaining to: Removing and adding an electric fan Adding a secondary intercooler Firstly i would like to remove the viscous fan and add a kenlowe or similar electric fan to my motor. Has anyone done this conversion and what are the pro's and con's of this idea? Secondly i have been considering upgrading my intercooler. Unfortunately the aftermarket ones that you get here are for the models that do not have the Airconditioner radiator that straddles both the radiator and intercooler. In the September / October issue i think of Landrover International there was an article of a 200/300tdi with a secondary intercooler mounted through the bonnet. Any comments on this setup? Cheers Rhodie
  4. Hey All, It never is easy, is it! Have hit 200k's on my 200tdi motor and it is time to change the drive belt. Firstly i have had to cut off one of the 90mm bolt head on the water pump to remove it as it is rusted solid into the block. Have now removed all remaining bolts on the timing belt cover plate hoping to ease it away from the housing. Nope, this will not budge either. I have a feeling that the last person who did the timing used a liquid sealant to seal around the opening where the water pump receives the coolant from the block. Since it is aluminium i do not want to apply excessive force and bend, crack or damage the cover plate. I'm sure someone has come across a similar situation, any bright ideas? Cheers Rhodie
  5. Thanks All, I'm in the process of replacing the timing belt so it's a good opportunity to check them out in the process. Hopefully the wear isn't too bad if they havent been replaced.
  6. Hi All, Decided to change the engine oil today. Ran the 200Tdi motor for 15 min to warm her up and then removed the sump drain plug. Waited till the last drips were becoming painfully slow before i decided to stick my finger into the hole to see if there was much sludge around. I discovered something worse than sludge! On some old motors that i have worked on before they used to have a hardened cap that sat on top of the push rod that road against the cam. This is what it looks to me but it is a wild guess as i have never opened a 200Tdi motor before. It is about 11mm dia & 3mm thich with a recess. Does anyone have a clue as to what these are? The motor runs fine and i am just wondering as to perhaps are these the remnants of a past incident? Should i strip the motor down to find out $$$$$$$ Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers Rhodie
  7. Thanks cipx2 for the info, i think i will run with the 'T' piece. Cheers Rhodie
  8. Thanks for that BogMonster. Cheers Rhodie
  9. Hi, Being one that likes to monitor what is happening inside the motor i would like to install an additional oil pressure gauge. Where is the most ideal place to insert the pressure switch in the motor? Cheers Rhodie
  10. Hi All, Had the injectors & pump checked out on my motor of which the prognosis for the injectors were that the nozzles were warn. The bosch agents informed me that these nozzles are the non-serviceable type and i would have to get new ones. Question - i have purchased new ones, type ETC8412, and was wondering as to whether it is a matter of just installing them or would it need to be done by the agents? i.e. checking spray pattern etc. Cheers Rhodie
  11. Thanks All, Much appreciated in your views on the bushes, i may try the OEM i think. Rhodie
  12. Hi All, I have carried out a search and did not find quite what i was looking for so thought i would throw it out there. I am wanting to replace the entire set of bushes on my Disco 1 with an aftermarket set from Polybush or whoever. Polybush have 3 types of bushes namely 'Performance', 'Dynamic' & 'Comfort' and i was wondering if any of the members had experienced any aftermarket bush that they are happy with and would like to inform us of their findings? Cheers Rhodie
