  1. drove it without the front prop on and it still made the same noises so took a chance and slung in another transfer box , and guess what still the same which only leaves the gearbox i guess. losing the will to live with it now! is a disco and defender r380 gearbox the same or interchangeable?
  2. hi guys the transfer box oil was like choclate so changed it and noise is still evident. it happens around 35mph, in certainley 3,4,5th gears. the noise varies on throttle application so gets noiser for example if accelerating in 4th at 40mph rather than 3rd if that makes sense.
  3. the other week my transmission started whine and its getting progressively worse I noticed the rear diff pinion had masses of play in it so sorted that, new ujs on the rear prop. the noise happens around 30mph and gets louder the more throttle is applied, it sounds like its coming from the tunnel area. is it more likley to be the gearbox than the transfer box? or how can i tell which it is thats the offending bit ? many thanks for your help guys
  4. great going to try that - fingers crossed that solves the issue! thanks Ben
  5. Hi put nanocom on and the fault reads 18-03 ecu ground or reference ground fault intermittent 255 times So sounds like a earth fault? If so where is the earth for the ecu? I'm also mindful that the abs tc system was switched off so this could be the ground issue so I have now cleared the faults and will test drive it to see if any faults appear afterwards
  6. I got the nanocom unit off a friend so will it in tomorrow and report back any codes. Thanks for the help so far, appreciated
  7. Do you think that even though it was the nsr wheel being braked that the fault could be on another sensor? Like the fronts Ben?
  8. Hi will have to find the codes, I wrote them down somewhere. I took off the nsr hub this am and aside from a little rust scale floating around in the hub where the abs sensor is all looked ok.
  9. Hi there On a 2002 td5 90 with abs and t c and the lights are staying on. Got the lights off via nanocom ok then when driving it whenever it hits a bump the brake comes on on the nsr! Any ideas what the fault could be ? Thanks
  10. I have managed to get hold of a rather good late 110 front axle, will this fit straight onto my 97 90 without any issues? thanks
  11. does any one know how to set the brake up into the drum of a warn 9.5ti - im guessing it will be the same principle as their other mainstream in drum braked winches. I just cant to get it set right , so it keeps slipping? many thanks
  12. hi m8 I made these for a Disco - they are bent to match the bodyline. Making some for a 90 should be easier for more pics...... http://s206.photobucket.com/albums/bb101/northants4x4/parts%20Mods%20and%20fabrication/?start=40
  13. It was a kinetic rope, I was there and took the vid.
  14. how do you get a bowmotor to fit a warn 9.5ti? As the motor splines are different, is it that you can change the drive motor coupler for say a 9.5XP one for example? can anyone advise? thanks
  15. they look a little like ferry lashing rings from a trailer http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...sa%3DN%26um%3D1
  16. went to billing... met some great folk from Gigglepin and XEng, so parted with a couple of quid!
  17. thanks Carl 8mm - thats thicker than I antipcated! was going to use 6mm as i got some of that . I will have to take the beef it up route I suppose!
  18. Jay - pm sent how much space should be left below the drum to allow for the wire? or does the winch sit flush?
  19. does anybody have a drawing of what the dimensions should be of the winch mount for an 8274 ie the hole centres, spacings including the size and location of the slot for the winch rope? my winch isnt with me so I cant measure it but I need to fabricate a decent mount to fit to my bumper to replace the low level one I currently have. many thanks
  20. thats a good sign then Nick - I must admit that all the gears do at first glance to be the same as the stock stuff. But the guy did say that he had to slow it down as it was on a beaver tail recovery truck and was too fast to drag the cars up on the back. So if he did then I wonder how he did slow it?
  21. I think I will speak to him. he may be able to advise on the gearing as I am keen that if mine has been changed that I can change it back to standard again.
  22. thanks western theres some good info in there , especially with the brake setup. any views on the gearing?
  23. I have just managed to source myself an 8274 , got it cheap from a mate. It needs some work doing on it to fix the the brake - this was welded up!, but I have unwelded and managed to remove it to find no friction material or bearings in it (i take it there are supposed to be bearings in it) - are these parts readily available, and where do they go ? what size bearings are they? it is also reported to be geared down as it used to be on a recovery truck - but I am unsure which gears would had be changed and how they are different from the standard ones - any ideas how I can tell? I think that it also needs the bush for the other end of the drum too and the little cover plate - so if anyone has any spares laying about that they want to get rid of for cash then let me know. thanks all
  24. mine run off my ARB compressor and are secured to the heater box pointing down toward the exhaust and chassis. they are running at about 80psi , but they still manage to shake the passenger side floor pan!
