  1. Would love to do Ladoga one year to be honest. But 1 biggy a year 2010 Croatia again {Blew engine on day 7 so want to finish event}Also visit KOH to recce in Febuary. 2011 Transalvaia & hopefuly King of the Hammers. 2012 maybe especially as they cater for trailer queens now
  2. Funny that Both Jez & i are doing just that Ladoga ,Croatia etc .We both avoid the majority of Uk events anyway. Most of the time our trucks are less competitive at small events anyway due to size. As to light as possible that also depends on power & terrain. Too bigger tyres & you will lack the friction to climb hills unless then you run 1000hp like the Icelandic guys Occasionally a light 90 on Simex will drive up a hard grassy hill i am putting full power down with 44s. Mind you it is very occassionally
  3. why is Pete - and others who can afford it - getting such a load of verbal on here? Its there money, its their hobby, let them spend their money. And if you must be totally jealous, then you can always fall back on the theory that they need such good trucks to make up for poor driving ability Funny that when Jim at Gigglepin asked what & why i was building my comment was "rather than improve my driving ill just get a better car !" PS its 60 chippys overcharging not 1
  4. Totally agree could be built cheaper if you did it yourself & yes use 2nd hand parts. But if like me you only have 1 day a week spare after doing 14hr days at work & have a family what do you do not build a truck?? Also what if you dont have the skills to build it or arnt interested in the majority of the build ?Personally i am a carpenter by trade so reasonably skilled with my pinkys but templating ,cutting & fitting the body panels was the most boring 2 days of my life Love being involved but as i say when it comes to time i have a very limited calendar which i choose to compete in the truck not lay under it. That was the main reason to have a properly built new truck with new ,tried & tested parts so i dont waste my free time or competion time mending it as much. The Bathtub i had for 15+ years & spent probably as much on the over the time as i have on the new buggy but hopefuly the new Buggy wont spend most its life in the garage {well garage in bits}. But you say why buy new ??? Ok if you pay to have it fitted etc then do you have it overhauled 1st then fitted if you want reliability. Also if some dont buy new what would you buy 2nd hand?? Please tell me where i can get a set of Alloy 3 piece split rims & 44 Boggers for £2k please i need a new set. You also got no, Electrics. Navigation aids Fuel cells Fire Ex system No winch ropes Hoses & fittings etc Painting. Also what have you just build that specced car to do , Fine at that budget for a 2 day challenge but would you take it 2k across Europe with all secong hand bits, basic suspension ,no safety kit & race across a desert or huge remote forest ?? Horses for courses. But you cant forget about the labour bill on a build if you are going to critise those who do. If you {im not saying you should if you enjoy building it}got an evening / weekend job or did overtime etc & paid someone to do the job it would cost exactly the same as everone elses. Should i shudder at you maybe that you spent £40k on a extension that i could get my guys to build at cost/ loose it through the buisniness & it cost me probably £10k if that officially??? For the record my Buggy has cost nothing like Jez etc have said .It would cost £100K plus but like him also we got some very good support so to say. Along with the Engine & transmission being 2nd hand Stak Box is new but on trail with them. Bespoke Portals are on trial & testing etc etc. Lots ofbits come from the BathTub ,Wheels tyres ,wiches etc . BUT they all had to be paid for at sometime. Love you all & this Great Country we call England Where free speech & thought rule & opression isnt encouraged.
  5. Add up the parts on Mouse plus labour at an average Uk rate & it would cost the same.
  6. Wahts with the whooo is me bit & we punch way about our weight bit ?? you got just as much money or time as everyone else. I know it a Russian immigrant thing to feel hard done bye & all English are lazy rich fat person I'm not that keen on {ok im fat} but mate your English if you have forgotten To stick up for what seems like a dig at Dieter .I kept adding / changing the truck so thats my fault I kept going out to make sure it fitted me, & i knew how it worked /how to repair it in the field doesnt that make sense?? Like you Jez i dont care /get upset about what other people say .It was just you started the digging like you normally do with Jim. Seems to me the way you rate Eastern Europe i cant see why you live in the **** part of it as nearly every post / article i read about you seem to down our side ?? Still not answered the weight question yet then??? Is it a Fying Bunch of spanners question from the secret Disney club lab secret Need to borrow some scales??
  7. Didn't say its light that wasnt what it was all about i have built what i want to drive for the next 15 years or so not just 1 event & sell it. Notice you didnt reply about what yours weighs full kitted with C0-driver etc {exclude wifes weight if you like} I'snt Croatia ,Romania ,Translvania Russian enough for you ??? It was a few years or was at least when i was in the Army Yep Buggy cost about that but when you buy parts not scrounge or beg them thats what it cost mortals like us. Guess we are onto the cheque book offroading issue again then ???
  8. Whats yours way all kitted & drivered up then ??? Never had problem with Lenght on any European event so far the longer wheel base helps cover the gfround better especially with triple Bypass etc . Well until engine went bang anyway. Always a trade off when you do lots of different type of evenst not just 1 a year . You still got Mouse or building something else ??
  9. 2440kg with 200l fuel ,spare & driver/co-driver Dont forget to 2 Twin Motor Gigllepins ,1 9000 centre winch & Stak driven PTO Oh yer 44s on Alloys are about 90kgs each
  10. Add 4 wheel steer & 500hp & its even more fun
  11. If you are doing a Africa trip why not fit Line locks to each corner ?? I have 4 on the bulkhead twist a lever & problem solved until you have a chance. Plus i use braided hoses with compression fittings ,all you need is a new olive or worse case a leght of hose!
  12. I agree with small trucks being better in tight forests. The question really is what events do you want to do ??? Do Tay or Croatia etc & a small truck wont stand a chance of keeping up !! Also power to weight is a factor as long as your drive train will take it !!
  13. Technicaly nothing broke Rear trailing arm top link bent when we rolled & ARB line melted from too much air pressure/ heat from engine bay. Then i had a dead Wookie & a **** driver Mind you it was the 1st time i had driven it
  14. Mine is 120" climbs faster than a fast thing & crosses ditches likec there not there Mind you 4 wheel steer , 44s & Spidertrax Portals helps as well http://blog.dgtuning.com/
  15. Oii i drive it not design it 45 degree lock is all i know & 6ft 10" wide with 44 boggers cant be too bad
  16. rrrhh ive sorted that problem with the new buggy The spare 44 is going on the roof
  17. Ive had more problems with leaves blocking the Snorkel during an event
  18. DiD you post £3850 or £38050 ??????
  19. Basically make them work on Volvo 303 Unimog 404 or Spidertrax axles & you would have a market
  20. Been there done it with - 1st thing what do you want to spend ???? RR axles everthing broke with 38s 101 Axles never broke a thing even with 42s & 300hp .Had ARbs & disc conversion but never got over pinion angle problem & ground clearance is carp even when clearanced diff:( Mog axles Yes heavy .Had air rams to work lockers which sorted all locker issues. Only broke 1 Hub with 44s but that was due to a loose hub casing. " 303 with 38 x 11s seem from other peoples experience to be best option if you stick to that size plus you gain 6" of ground clearance Ashcroft HI-9 seems very good as a bolt on option if you ned to pay for someone to mods to other axles this may be financialy acceptable. If you do fabbing yourseld then 303 would be far cheaper. Ultimate D & G Tuning Spidertrax with Custom Portals but whats your budget??
  21. I like these tyres for faster stuff we are waiting for a release date from the states on a set of 39x15 22 s equivilant for the Breslau next year for speed sections
  22. As Daan says yes it would be great but i would say 90% of the people that would want it & be willing to pay have put on bigger axles already thus your kit would be no good. When you say about cost if it fitted my axles i would quite happily pay £1k for a kit but then would that include an air tank & big enough compressor to inflate 44" tyres etc. To make the CTS system useful the compressor would need to be very quick or you may as welluse a Power Tank & inflate all in around 1 minute. The comment about pipes exposed etc is very valid anything exposed will get ripped off in minutes Unprotected tyre valves last about 30 secs normally
  23. 2100Kg 70% stronger axles 150HP more 700 kg lighter 450 HP winch Dont forget about the centre consol fridge Will Will you are forgetting i need to compensate for my **** driving just to keep up with Jim the driving God ! Let alone Jez
