  1. Speedo drive has an O ring on the body and seals via that. Bit RTV will not go amiss when refitted.
  2. Have you backed off the adjusters as per the manual? I tend to back the rears off two clicks and fronts 1 clickto get front to work 1st. Pedal does not go to floor on mine have you got the free play set up at the master cylinder if it does not come back fully the fluid could be trapped .
  3. did you rough the shoe up after burning with emery cloth to remove the glaze. have cleaned mine successfully in the past. Usually wth intention of then buying some new ones but onc brakes where working again got left alone
  4. Made mine out of a piece of vinyl upholstery

  9. Phil do you know a part number for the spacers you mention. Have tried original sq lipped seals and orings minus spacers but currently losing significant oil through these seal.
  10. Is the second speed any faster or is it a slower speed?
  11. Is that channel not the vent for the transfer case?

  14. Chock front wheels and jack rear then with handbrake off check diff for play ie how far can you turn prop before wheel moves. Make sure 4wd disengaged.
  15. Is it not easier to clamp shoes and cylinders to gether with a strap?
  16. Not a mechanical engineer but I wonder how much strength you have lost from hub by removing the webs?
  17. Sherpa vac pump looks very similiar to 200tdi.
  18. Page 15 of the optional parts catalogue pdf 3 shows he components. If you do not have a copy do a search for Smithies landrover which will bring up a NZ site of interest!
  19. Have seen a modification done my Logrover where gear case was drilled and tapped for a stud to hold the bearing carrier still.
  20. The selector rods are quite a close fit between case and lid , last few boxes I have stripped have not had much trace of oil in that area! Mind my current fitted box is leaking oil from front selector seals so must be able to pass some [suspect incorrect pairing of lid and case they are machined as pairs] Is the groove in transfer cas not a vent for transfer case?
  21. That rocky mountain transfer dip stick looks like standard pnuematic pipe fittings do you know what the arrangement is for the dipstick. I have stainless tube and fittings in my garage from my work would need to make dipstick!!!!!!! http://www.rockymountainspares.co.uk/?page_id=41
  22. Oil filler plug should have a dip stick fitted to it level is correct when it is on the mark after being screwed into O/D Some have removed plate and fitted pnuematic fitting to allow remote breather to be fitted ie higher.
  23. Had a close look at spare door lock today it has excess play in the spindle that handle turns , when the handle is returned by the spring the outer casing is worn allowing extra movement , door catch sliding section has 3mm + lateral movement so door would fall back away from seals. Compared this to one currently fitted and it is the same . Might have to bite the bullet and buy a new anti burst set up for drivers door as a mpore secure option to a replacement early type.
  24. Compared all locks on vehicle and drivers door catch is about 3mm longer than other catches , dug out me spare one from a second hand back door I got awhile ago and it is also shorter so will try that when weather improves.
  25. The narrower end should be at the push rod end ie when pedal pressed the wider part is forced agains the cylinder wall by the fluid. PDF manual section 5 page 48 do a web search for smithies landrover will come up with NZ site of interest if you do not have manual.
