  1. Changed the glow-plugs on my L-series diesel the other day to try and improve the cold-starting. They seem to have helped but I also suspect the battery needs replacing as it sounds to be struggling a bit. While doing so I found the inlet manifold to be a little gunged up - this can mean a faulty EGR valve I believe but in the meantime can anybody advise what I could use to clean the gunge out of the inlet manifold? Cheers
  2. Garage fixed problem, slave and master replaced plus a cracked bracket. £195 all in, many thanks for advice
  3. Today I suffered what I thought was a broken clutch cable while driving my 2000/V 2.0 diesel Freelander - accelerating in 3rd, thunk, pedal came upwards. The garage the AA tow truck took me to informed me Freelanders have no cable as the unit is hydraulic and will look at it on Monday. His initial look suggested to him that it was not a straightforward clutch issue as there was no fluid leak and the pedal is completely free of any 'feel' (it either comes straight up or will stay down if pressed) - he said it could be a pedal box issue. Jsut wondered if anybody can advise what it may be in advance of them telling me!!!
  4. Cheers all, The electric fan sounds like it is running a lot of the time when I am driving my 2000/V XDI- admittedly the majority of which is town driving but not what you would call constantly stop/start. Strangely it seems to stop when I stop moving and am idling. The car uses no coolant, temp gauge is normal and shows no other obvious signs of overheating or running hototherwise seems to be running perfectly- is this a potential issue or another 'Freelander characteristic' ?
  5. Hi mate - just got 4 new Goodyear Wrangler 195/80 R15's on my 2000 XEDI - they are smooth and as quiet as I would expect from this kind of vehicle !
  6. Cheers Viorel It was just the top 'whip' bit that was missing - I went to Halfords and asked the guys if I could try a couple of of them out first as I saw that the screw threads at the bottom were different sizes - first one was too big, second one was perfect -£11.99 jobs a good'un
  7. This was a trade sale, nr Chippenham in Wiltshire
  8. 2000/V Freelander 5 door XEDI, Champagne (?) metallic, ice-cold A/C, HD, towbar (unused), 81k miles, 12mths MOT, 11mths tax, FSH (inc recent cambelt), £3k Went to see it last week and armed with all the advice from guys on here I checked everthing suggested and all seems OK so picked up today. The seller fixed a few issues it had, namely replaced the rear door window regulator and repaired the dent in the drivers door. It appears to have a few Freelander foibles, i.e. slight uneven tyre wear on rears and boot safe is a bit moist (advice here would be appreciated) but in all I'm as happy as I could be. The only thing I failed on was the roof aerial which I did not notice was missing so the radio reception is affected, it has an aftermarket Sony CD player so can I just get a standard roof-aerial from Halford for £12 or does it need to be a LR original ? Cheers all for your advice prior to my purchase, hopefully I have a good'un.
  9. Cheers all, first post so here goes ... I have a caravan and unfortunately my company Vectra 1.9CDTI has gone back because I've moved jobs so am now in the market for a new towcar - I really fancy a Freelander because it's not too big, has the 4x4 ability when needed, has 3 proper seatbelts in the back for my young ones (in the £5k arena I'm looking there are not many 4x4's that offer this), and also because basically I have always wanted a LR ! It's going to be Freelander 1 and I want a 5 door diesel, ideally a Td4 but will happily have a TDI if I can' find one. I have a few questions : 1. Do they all come with A/C or is dependant on age/trim level ? 2. Do they all come with HDC ? 3. Any general things to check/look out for when I go to view I'm not a complete novice and have bought secondhand cars before but any advice on anything specific to check would be appreciated. TIA Jonathan
