Trying to keep my Discovery on the road!?!
  1. Hi all would just like to let you know that the Disco is up and running once again at full power!!! Fitted new pump today started up first time and after a few minutes of tick over off we went. Good to be back up to full power. Cost of 330 Euros about £240 (not to bad i thought) for Italy. Thanks for your info and help. K88 MUD BogMonster Wobbley1 JimAttrill
  2. Thanks for that, the pump has definately kicked the bucket. I have had it out and conected it to a battery, it only works for a few seconds after being taped by a hammer and doesnt run very smooth at all. The hardest bit now is going to be finding one here. or even harder still paying for yet more new parts.
  3. hi all i have posted new topic because i seem to have a new problem?!?! Problems originally a misfire at tick over and at high revs, that cleared its self but i was then left with a lack of power in 4th and 5th gears and struggling to get to 70mph. So far I have changed: fuel and air filters, injector harness, checked all turbo pipes etc and wastegate seems to be ok. I went for a test drive last night and all came to a stop. When i tried to restart i noticed that the fuel pump was not working. I have taken it out today and tested it with battery and still not working. Could the in tank fuel pump cause misfire and lack of power under load? Or have i just found a new problem? I have been told that the pump should only engage for a few seconds when starting but i am sure mine stayed on all the time. thanks to bogmonster and wobbley1 for advice so far. was planing on going to Land Rover tomorrow to let them have a look, but now cannt even get there!
  4. Hi, I have replaced the injector harnes but was still loosing power on acceleratoin in 4th and 5th so i checked all the turbo hosing and it all seemed to be ok, so i checked the the new fuel filter to try and make it was seated ok. i have just been for a test drive and about half a mile down the road the engine came to a stop. when i tryed to restart i noticed the in tank fuel pump was not working. when i got to it i turned the ignition on and gave it a couple of taps with a hammer and i fired up, i got home on 4 cylinder. only 4 when ticking over or reved. could a dodgey fuel pump have caused the missfire in the first place? or is this a new problem? can i test that it is the pump? would a selanoid problem stop the pump when running? or just not start the pump in the first place.
  5. Have now checked ecu and found and cleaned out a little oil in the plug and unit. i have put some injector cleaner in the tank. But still lacking power in 4th and 5th geares, the engine starts to hesitate from about 2300 revs. Will try looking for an injector harness tomorow. But could this still be the problem? should i just cut my losses and head for a Land rover garage? (Iti mechanics not overly helpful if you donnt speak Italian well) thanks, K88 MUD, BogMonster
  6. Hi all, i am looking for a bit of help. I am in Italy at the moment with my have a 1999 Disco. For about the last 100miles or so it has been losing power on high revs and struggling to get to 70mph. I changed the fuel filter yesterday and took it for a drive, after a couple of miles 1 cylinder stoped firing, i got home on 4. It stayed on 4 ticking over and on high revs. This morning i started it, it started on 4 cylinders but after about a minute of ticking over it went back to 5. Still lacking power at higher revs when driving. Could this be the injector wiring loom? Or is it more likely to be injectors? Or something els? I have read that it could be a vacuum leak at the intake manifold, is this possible? Can i test for anything? Am coming back to England in 6 weeks (i hope) Thanks for any help.

    Thanks

Would like to say thanks to all who helped out with my overheating prob. have been presure tested and found a small leak in the radiator, hopfully this is the only thing that caused the overheating. fingers crossed.
  8. Hi, I am I need of some much needed HELP! I have a 1999 Discovery TD5 that I bought about a month ago. It’s been running fine until a few days ago when it started to over heat and lose coolant. I stopped to let it cool down, filled it with water then carried on. After about 5 miles it started to over heat and had lost about 6 litres of water. I can not find a leak, no loss of water when parked up, have had a land rover mechanic look at it who could not find a leak and has ruled out head gasket. He said that he has had another TD5 with the same problem. It could run 1000 miles without over heating, then lose coolant and over heat for no apparent reason. The only drip I could see was from overflow pipe from header tank. I had the top off with the motor running, after about half an hour the tank was empty. But has now stopped leaking. Could there be a crack between the in pipe and the overflow pipe in the top of the tank where the lid screws on? I am driving to Italy in a month and need to get it sorted or get another vehicle. P.S. before my Discovery could over heat and go in to the red, it lost power. Is this a safety feature?
