  1. Yada Yada yada misunderstandings and offence taken (not by me) f@*k forums i wasn't trying to boast, look big, put anyone/thing down so evrybody stop taking humbridge at my comments out of here tommer. p.s. i wasnt bull****ting either
  2. Cheers for that- the off roading down here is not as organised- or possibly is i just dont follow it- the point i was trying to make is that it isn't essential to go mad on your vehicle, as mine is basically standard (no sus lift snorkel etc) and that i encounter pretty extreme stuff whilst working- one day steep drops, another hideous mud, another wading etc. I had a great day at bampton, and ABSOLOUTELY did not mean to detract from it or put it down in any way, nothing meant by my comments.
  3. Wow, what a debate you all seem to be having- probably inevitable on a landy forum when toyota is mentioned. At the end of the day a car is a car,and you take your choice- you are thinking of buying a scond hand un-warrantied car to go away to Europe in. There is not anywhere in mainland euroe that is too far away from either jap/uk vehicle parts suppliers, so like someone said, you just have to choose what you like and hope for the best. All manufacturers have flaws and "friday afternoon" vehicles( freak lower build quality cars) than normal, and i suppose you have to just hope you dont end up with one of these, or a pretty looking but abused second hand one. As with everything in life, there are pros and cons- i have a beefed up 110 purely for work, which to tell the truth makes mincemeat of jap stuff i have owned, and i do 25000 miles a year, usually overloaded and towing up to 4 tons (i know..illegal etc...) and aout 50% off road in woods fields quarries. My repairs are regular from propshadft u.j's, clutches about every 6-12 months and last april an engine rebuild. All i can say with certainty is that my hi-lux chassis got bent, the body rusted, and the replacement gearbox i had for 650 fitted on my defender would have cost me over twice that on the hi-lux, which is why i got rid of it. I thought i was abusing my truc, but am assured not. I am not advocating LR over Toyota, more that i can't decide AT ALL which is better. I gone back to landrover as there is not anything else with which i can do what i do. My brother's lardcruiser (pugwash) blew me away off roading in somerset a week ago, keeping up with well tricked up 90's, but at the same time i do all that sort of stuff fully loaded for work. I cannot fault my landrover, and when i describe its life to those who slag off landy's then they soon shut up. It must be said that however you dress up a landrover (disco. defender etc. etc) they started out as glorified tractors, and when in a work application will take anything you throw at them and beg for more, if you dont abuse them. Good luck, and i hope that whatever you buy it will look after you, and that you have a good trip.
  4. Got to agree- h14 awesome winch with 111 horsepower behind it and five speeds- was looking at your link for fitting, and you mention the weight of the winch. Superwinch specify that you fit 90" rear springs to the front of your vehicle. I did this on the advice of the best garage you will find for landrovers- mid cornwall 4x4 in bugle- and then got fitting instructions from superwinch which actually specify the parts (nrc9448 and nrc9449-driver and passenger side). Hope his helps. Really impressed by your chassis mods to get shafting up out of the way.
  5. Although not entirely relevant to your particular winch, I have a superwinch H14W P.T.O. winch, which i bought second hand. I recently had to replace the carrier bearings on the shafting, which i took to my local bearing supplies store, who matched them perfectly. this reduced the cost by half from superwinch. Superwinch are extremely helpful if you ever ring them though; they're on 01822 614101, as Dave Bowyer doesn't seem to deal with the mechanical ones. They also gave me a price of about 70p for the woodruff key! (still made my own though!) Hope that is of some help.
  6. Likewise. Olly liked your landy- esp the seats/seatbelts!
  7. Big thanks to everyone for making me and olly feel really welcome. top day out for two first-timers on the scene.m My off=roading experience before has been of a sort of similar leve, but uneducated and work related- never enjoyed it so much then! Thanks to James for organising the day- would llove to come to another with my truck maybe- and ollywas made up. Thanks also to those of you who had a seven year old co-driver, it really made his day. It has given me much more confidence in what my truck will do, and now i can get to several more elusive trees that i have had to pass by in the past( i have a sawmill and cant bear to see fallen trees left to rot- if you have any that are down the mill is mobile and cann take a 36" diameter log if anyone is interested!). Hopefully see you at another day.
  8. How could you do that to my poor brother- pugwash has tried to keep the fact a secret for years!
  9. Hi western. The truck i think you are thinking of is the 110 belonging to "Go stump No stump" tree-stump grinding services, who is in Camborne, you may have seen mine though as i am based near tolgus tin/ gold site!
  10. thanx for that. I pipped vosa to the post after weighbridge episode, and checked it out with them, wich was lucky for reasons you gave!! They are hot on the A30 for that sort of thing, with regular layby checks at Fraddon.
  11. hello Pugwash's brother here. I am totally new to the whole forum thing, hence the fact that i posted before i introduced myself, so sorry. Anyway, here goes. I am based in Cornwall, and have a 1994 300tdi 110 defender. It started as a standard H.C.P.U, and is now a drop side tipper with uprated springs and helper springs to give me a payload of about 1.75 tonnes! I have a P.T.O. superwinch (H14W) on the front as i kept burning out the X9 i had previously, so i also have 90inch rear springs on the front to take the 100 foot of wire. I cant use plasma rope as the truck is used for work which is forestry based. The truck is shod with 285/85/16 BFG mud terrains on weller eight spokes. It has turned into a bit of a monster over the last few years! It works hard for its keep, doing about 20000+ miles a year, towing a lot, and off road loaded regularly- to the tune of a clutch every year, and a recent trip to the weigh bridge to find i was slightly over the limit at 8.1 tonnes! Still, 'when the needs must...the devil drives!!!' Oak is heavy stuff when green!
