  1. Yeah I first had a bit of head scratching to find the best way to make them. I think that was my third attempt after first thinking that I could weld little bits of metal together - how hard was I trying to make this!! Excellant, I want to see loads of pics after you've finished What seat belts do you have and what fixing eyes do they have. Mine are plain brackets with an hole in, but if you look closely on the link from the military forum they have clip on ones? Steve
  2. Yes they do and they are a bit more hard wearing that the standard ones. That's one of the main reasons wanted these ones as they're a bit more hard wearing tough than the others and they look nicer! Also with the standard/basic ones you have to remove the flat cusion slightly to fold the seats up and it all looks a bit clumsey/bulky. Whereas with you just lift them up and hook the strap on. There pretty well made as well with the cushions easily unclipped from the frame for cleaning (like I did) and you can also undo a clip to remove the foam cushions. Hopefully they'll get some use. I'll have to get someone else to drive so I can try them out for myself!! Steve
  3. Oh do modulars have more of an offset that LR rims like wolf and such. How much of a difference is the offset and what rims would be the best for 235/85R16 and 265/75R16. Wolf rims or 16x7 modulars. Which combination would give the best alignment under the wheel arch of a defender 90 with standard suspension. Thanks Steve
  4. Don't worry I do! I only took the cushions off because both the cushions and frames were a bit grubby and also there easier to offer up to fit with the cushions off.
  5. Hi, Sorry for the delay, I have some pictures. These two pictures show the bracket in situe. The bracket will be rivoted to the tub to form a mount once i've painted them! And this picture is a net of the bracket. I used 2mm mild steel. I cut most of it out with a jigsaw, worked well actually and filed it to shape. I think I will aim to mount the seat belts near the back of the wheel arch (roughly where these red crosses are!) so there out the way. Hope this helps. I better crack on and get mine fitted, I've just got the seat belt bracing plates to make and they'll be finished. Look forward to see the brackets that you make. Steve
  6. I think you need to click on options at the top right of the post and click standard. Steve
  7. Maybe a silly question, but is there any pros and cons/advantages or disadvantages over having 15 or 16 inch wheels.
  8. Hi, I wondered the same thing, as they are MOD spec I had a look in the military forum on here and there's a post called 'Load area seats, (Wolf spec tube frame)' - sorry I don't know how to make a link. On there there are pics of Mondo's XD 90 with the rears seats in. Apparently there's an extra panel sandwiched between tub and seats which is standard on an XD 90. What I did was to fabricate some brackets which will be riveted to the 'x-section of the tub rail' as you put it and have a vertical tab in the middle which you can bolt the seats to. (A picture can be taken if you want?) A query that I have is about the seat belt mounting, I plan on putting a strengthening plate underneath in the wheel arch to bolt the seat belt too so as to make strong anchorage points. What are your plans for the seat belts? Thanks Steve
  9. That's very true what you say there - I hadn't really thought about that! Well I think I'll look into the 265's as well, now I know they'll fit.
  10. Great, how do the dakar's behave on the road? Where did you get yours from as I have only seen them for a little over £60 each. How many miles have you done with them and hows the wear rate. I see you have 265/75R16, a slightly wider tyres that 235/85R16 by about an inch. Do you find that you get stuck in ruts or does that only happen with the really wide tyres like 31 10.5 R15 as I am still not sure what size to get really as I am not keen on the really wide tyres as I'll just get stuck. As I plan to put these tyres on 16 x 7 modulars I guess the tyre will stick out further and should nearly be flush with the wheel spats/arches. Steve
  11. Hi, I've been think about a new set of tyres for my 90, but I need some advice about the above tyres. The Sahara style tread can also be bought from Greenway and Fedima. I'm pretty sure these will behave well on road - any experience? They seem to work well from what I've heard I've also found the Recip Trial which is a retread and look like the Maxxis Mudzilla which I'm guessing is not a retread by the price of them. How noisy are these on the road compared to sahara's or standard avon rangemasters. I'll mostly being driving on road to and fro work and doing pay and play days and greenlaning (When I find some!) The size of tyre I'm looking at is 235/85R16 and I'll be putting them on 16 x 7 modulars. Are there any issues with tyre rubbing on a standard set up defender 90. Another question - How long would you expect them to last beings there retreads? Thanks Steve
  12. Excellant, I can go and fit them without worrying that there the wrong ones!! Steve
  13. Hi, Would like a second opinion on the correct oil seals to use. I have ordered some of paddock spares, but I just want to be sure. The numbers I have are: Rear diff pinion oil seal:- MR14035 and FRC8220 Rear transfer box / handbrake oil seal:- MR869 and FRC7043 Hope these are the correct ones as I dont want to take it all to bits and find that there the wrong ones!! Thanks Steve
  14. Hi, Out of curiosity, which overdrive would fit an LT77 gearbox - A series one maybe? Or are there others? Thanks Steve
  15. Hi, Yes, I used them for getting an alternator (65amp) for my 90. Good prices and delivery was cheap, is was next day as well. Handy for me needing it quick!! You can't view them on the site, you have to fill in a free quote form and they will gett back to you asap. Hope this helps - (sorry its a bit late, but only just sore the post!!) Steve
  16. Hi, I've also been looking into the whole rear cross member scene. I've read the article on how to fit a cross member with extensions, the one you are strengthening here has no extensions. Is this type easier of harder to fit as apose to one with extensions on. Thanks Steve
  17. I should be going this weekend. I haven't been before, hoping to get a few bits and pieces. Is it a large event? Steve
  18. Hi, I should hopefully be going. I've heard that the sand knackers your brakes/discs - is this true or is ok after a wash down? Is the entrance well sign posted or is it like hogmoor where its a gap in the fence! Steve
  19. Oh, sorry about that Gromit, I thought it was luke's article. There's this kit and one other I think but I think it for the wrong type i.e. connectors/amps. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lucas-A127-Alternato...1QQcmdZViewItem Do you know of any other places that do kits?
  20. I was think the exact same thing, because I've seen the kits on ebay for, as you said £15, so with the the help of Lukes tech article I think I'll have a go. Looking at the old one, one of the brushes had got stuck inside the regulator and the bush that the brushes rotate on is a bit chewed/warn. So I think I have ago at reconditioning it for a spare! Steve
  21. I now have the neccessary gasket and so I thought I'll have a go at changing the gasket arrowed in the picture below. By dissconnecting the transfer box linkages and reverse light cable and removing the four bolts that secure it to the main gearbox I could then take the hole assembly off in one go. I gave the gearbox a bit of a clean as well as the remote housing and fitted a new gasket. Only time will tell if it has cured the leak. I'll have to see what happens tomorrow! Steve
  22. Yes I did thorough check on wednesday night and all the wires that should be connected were and I could pick up voltage fron the alternator as well as grounding the ignition bulb to light up. So I went ahead an oredered an alternator from this place: http://www.alternatormart.co.uk/ I ordered in at 3:30 and it came at about 10am the next day, excellant service! I had a scout through the previous posts about alternators and someone (can't remember who) recommended them so I thought I would go ahead and order one. Got it fitted today and it works fine, battery voltage rises when you start the engine and falls again when you stop - excellant. The only problem I had was that I had to rotate the front casting around one bolt hole so that the tensioner arm would fit - I had fun getting the brushes back on, but luckily I heard of the 'paper clip' trick on the forum - thanks Luke!
  23. Hi, I thought those tyres were still available on the web at these places: http://www.sowdentyres.co.uk/greenway-tyres.html http://www.tyresdirectuk.co.uk/xcart/custo...home.php?cat=14 http://www.tyremonkey.co.uk/tyres/4x4-tyre...yres/index.html but I haven't tried buying from them, so I could be wrong! I'm interested in getting a set of macho style tyres, What are they like off road and whats the tyre noise like on road? Steve
  24. Hi, I guess the Tulley's Farm Autojumble is still on for tomorrow. What time does it start? Steve
