  1. You need to fit an intercooler. Saab 9000 is a very good budget mod for this engine or at a push a saab95 cooler but you will need to fiddle with pipes a little more. If you ask jez aka dollythelw on here he may still have the pics of his original intercooler conversion and be able to help you out with EGT guide. Andy
  2. I am in the process of selling my 300 tdi disco and intend on selling the full width intercooler seperately. I have a 200tdi intercooler, will it fit? Anyone looking for a full width intercooler pm me. Andy Dont worry I will be joining the ranks of the vapour builders.

  4. Ty ciderman very interesting. What I need to know is wether a disco box will work though? thats the main thing so I can buy a whole disco to break if it does. I havent done the deal for the 90 yet but trying to work out how much it will cost. Andy
  5. Are r380 gearboxes different in the same way as LT77's? I would like to put a 300tdi and r380 from a gearbox from a disco into a 90. Anything else I should consider like engine mounts and gearbox x members. Would it be easier to fit Defender lt77 and a 300tdi? Andy
  6. David from Llama does supply stainless brake pipes so should also be able to supply the parts you need. He also Has another site for ducting and Hoses but I cannot find it anywhere and he won't post a link . Andy
  7. Gresh and the tragic accident. I have been quiet on this subject since the accident. I feel it is time to put a few people straight. It is so easy to judge when you are sat at home/office or wherever and "know" just how good your Landrover is. I have known Gresh for 22 years and he is a man that I am proud to have the honour of calling a best friend. He would NEVER have "knowingly" taken his children out in an unroadworthy vehicle. Yes the evidence makes this seem like a clear cut case, But what the vehicle was like after the accident and before are two completely different things. Unfortuneately Gresh nor his legal team were able to prove certain points on this so the general maintanence was a damning factor. I was at court for all of the ten days of the trial and if any of you would like to argue points of law with feel free via pm. Yes the trailing arm bracket failed. I can catagorically state that I believed it was fine sometime before the tradgedy. The failure of this component is rare but have you checked yours recently? If so are you a metalurgist? Better than the "expert", as he calculated the rate of corosion wrongly. Hinde Sight is a wonderful gift be pleased it isn't you. If the accident had been a normal collision there would have been only minor injuries as the seatbelts for the children did not help in this situation as they were to hard for children to undo! If you would like to challenge me or ask a question of someone who knows much more than the press feel free in private I have no reason to lie to you. I would love to inspect the "Doubters" vehicles, I am pretty sure that if I and one other did a spot check on your vehicle I/we could find something dangerous or illegal. We all know what Landrover tolerences are like. We all know how easy it is to "mix and match". I have been involved, like many others on here and similar forums, with custom/modified cars for many years. My previous love was VW,s and I can gaurantee 75% of all modified VW's are Illegal in some way or another. Probably a similar percaentage of modified Landrovers too. Above all lets not forget the human factor. Gresh was responsible as he was the driver, but I chatted to him while Sara Bolland his partner and mother of the children put the kids in the 110 just before setting off on that trip. She drove the vehicle regularly too but because she wasnt that day nobody blames her as she was not the driver. As a responsible parent she must be even slightly culpable? Perhaps not what should a woman know about the condition of a vehicle? Does that mean that all women are not responsible for any vehicle? What if she had been driving? Four of the most beautiful children died on 16th September 2007. I am Honoured that they called me Uncle Andy. I stayed with Keavy to the end. I carried Angels coffin at the funeral. Nigel Gresham is just like you and me except one Sunday afternoon while taking his family out something broke. It could happen to any of us. Do not judge him he has already been judged way before any trial. Now my appology to the admin. If I have over stepped the mark I am sorry If you feel this needs to be deleted or locked so be it but these are heart felt honest words that come from a man who has watched his best mate go through way to much in the last 16 months.   8. Thanks for that it is what I thought. It was a tyre supplier that told me that they were different. And being as I have no clue about backspaceing and offset it is good to check. Andy
  9. Are castor alloys the same offset as other Disco alloys? I have been told they are not but they are stamped et33 just like all the others. But I know nothing about offset sizeing . The reason for asking is I am considering fitting 265/75-16's to my Disco on castors. I know they are ok on freestyles and I know I will loose more steering over 235's. Any help and pics would be gratefully appreciated. Andy

  11. Sorry to hear the bad news bish as I am sorry for anyone else that falls into this category. Is it not possible for you to completly strip the bishtail, get a donor chassis to chop up so you can class it as an amateur build? I may have missed the point entirely but just an idea as a donor chassis would be uber uber cheap. Andy
  12. I am sure the handbook is correct but as I have already stated the mot tester is not able to inspect in depth. Have you seen the "corosion assement tool" or "toffee hammer" the use. I have made a reapir to my vehicle and told everyone how I did it and what an mot inspector is looking for not what is required by the letter of the law. I am sure that if someone is able to weld they will be able to make their own judgement on how far to go. I know my repair is stronger than standard and you are welcome to test it if you like. Andy
  13. Sotal, What your MOT guy wants is wrong !!! In theory you couold rivet and disguise them with underseal and he wouldn't know the diference. An MOT inspectors job is to look for corrosion not to determine how something was repaired, unless it is obviously substandard. Your MOT inspector wont be able to tell exactly how it is held together once he is underneath. there are to many bits and piesces in the way to get a good look. Underdog, Tooling yes I have an old home made folder but as I said a hammer and a vice are just as easy to use to form thin steel. If it is too thick use a cutting disc on a grinder to score your fold. As regards know how with a welder that debateable and more a matter of practice and over the last few months I have made use of my time doing so. It is not that I couldn't be bothered to replace the boot floor with a replacement panel. It was a necassary repair on a budget. Cost to me..... a few hours plus a few quids worth of materials and welding supplies = Not a lot. Cost of new boot floor + strengtheners = £130 ish Cost of MOT and tax =£140 End result = priceless.   14. I have just repaired mine for the time being. It was the usual two long edge strips that were the worst. What I did was cut out all of the rot. Measured the length and width to take in account for the shapeing. Using a sheet metal folder roughly bent the cut strips to a similar shape as the boot contours. This can be done by hand with a vice and a hammer. Once the repair sections are approximately to shape offer up to the nice big gap you have cut in your pride and joy. If you are reasonably happy tack the inner edge well at either end and in the middle. By only doing one side you are now able to use a hammer to finely adjust the shape so that you can tack the outer edge down. Once you are happy that it is resembleing a boot floor edge weld 1cm beads swapping from side to side to iliminate distortion. The original boot floor was only spot welded and seam sealed so it is not necassary to seem weld the whole repair just seal it well after. I will be replacing my whole boot floor at some stage but this has past the MOT and will see me through atleast another 2 years before other parts decide to break through. When it is time to do the job "properly" the whole boot floor and the cross braces will be replaced. Hope this helps. Andy

  17. Please could someone tell me how heavy a standard rover diff is? I may have to post one and the only ones I have are in axles. It doesnt need to be mega accurate just approx so I can find out how much. TIA Andy
  18. Thanks everyone for your replies. I wanted to make sure that what I buy was right from the begining. I will go for 235's and sticjk at that unless I come across some larger offset wheels at some stage. All this tyre talk is a nice diversion after welding the boot floor !!! Andy
  19. Thanks biglad I did actually know about the width from bead to bead and the profile percentage height. The outside and height of the tyre are not the concern I can cope with that. My main concern is how much fowling a 265 will cause compared to a 235 when fitted on my et33 rims. Therefore the profile/height is not of importance.   20. What I cant work out is this...... if 235/70's came as standard fitment then 265's will only be 30mm wider? Therefore only 15mm wider on the inside of the rim? A few years ago I had Range Rover and for a while had 265/75x16's on rostyle rims and didn't seem to have any problems with steering at all they did catch the radius arms slightly but the turning circle seemed fine. I have found a supplier selling 265/75x16 Maxxis Buckshots for such a reasonable price it would be rude not to go with them. Andy

  24. Thanks for the replies. It is diff clearance height I want to achieve, although this is my daily driver I also want to minimise the compromise. I am sure I will be getting a set of 235/85's when the time comes just didn't want to buy them and find out the next day I could have had 265's. I would go for 255/85's but that does mean new rims and nothing the way of budget options either. Maybe when I have the money it may be a consideration. Andy
