I got mine from a local signmaking shop, did them in about five minutes while I waited, i was also able to get them slightly shorter than normal so they fit between the raised parts of the bonnet. However I had to ask for 'a sticker that looks like a numberplate' as he said he wasn't allowed to make numberplates.

I've just done this (last week) and like Les said had to cut them both off and fit new wheelboxes

It's OK i've worked it out now. If you want to test it via the loom you have to use pins 7 or 9 for the earth, pin 2 is only the earth for the lighting circuit. So my speedo works and is only 5K low

Thanks Ralph The numbers I was referring to were the other end of the loom. Looks like my Speedo is U/S then, guess it wasn't the bargain i thought.

Most of what you are all talking about is complete double dutch to me! But I've been following with interest because this has been on my to do list for a while. Decided I would get the td5 Binnacle ( which I got off Ebay about two years ago) out to see what mileage was on it, however I've tried putting 12v onto pins 6 & 11 and pin 1 of the loom (and even all together) but the Speedo wont light up. Am i doing something wrong or is my speedo dead ? - Btw I've also been putting pin2 to earth/Neg. Thanks Mark.

Try giving the nearest ones to you a ring I think most galvanisers have a lorry running round collecting & delivering - They do round here anyway - worth a try.

Been out tonight in it, everything seemed to be ok . Then when I got home, I pressed the remote to lock the doors, the alarm sounded and it's now sat on the drive dead as a dodo As I said Bluddy Land Rover !

Thanks Jim, I've checked (previously and again) all of that without finding any obviously loose connections. The fuse box is actually very clean. P.S. I've also remembered that a little while ago when locking it, the indicators would flash three times as usual but when unlocking it the indicators would not flash although it unlocked as normal, this cleared itself after a couple of days . But perhaps this also points towards an 'alarm' problem ?

Ive done a quick search but can't find this fault anywhere, any one have any ideas please ? Driving home from work this morning in the TD5, starting up from outside a shop, I pulled away normally but after literally five feet the engine cut out and the alarm sounded (but not the horn) for a while before dying. On trying to restart I realised that the 90 was completely dead electrically, no ignition, no lights, no response to the remote, no nothing ! Checking the batteries they both read 12.3 volts , I checked all the fuses pulled and replaced the relays (including under the seatbox) still nothing , then I noticed that the dash lights had come back to life (I thought I must have found a loose connection somewhere) , on turning the key everything went dead again and the alarm sounded (and died). I checked earth connections and any other connections i could find and then whilst I was on the phone to a friendly mechanic - and definately not touching anything - the dash lights came back on again, this time on turning the key it started and I drove it 12 miles or so home without any problems. Since then I've locked, it unlocked it, started it, stopped it, all with no problems. Anyway to cut a long story short has anyone any ideas for a quick fix, with my (very) limited knowledge, im guessing it has something to do with the alarm /immobiliser,could it be a relay ? spider ? I really do need a quick fix if poss as im going away on Thursday morning and the Girlfriend will kill me if we end up sitting in a lay-by and not on a plane ! I've been with NFU for 7or 8 years and never been asked for any sort of membership. Both my vehicles insured with them are modified and were insured without any problems, not had to make a claim yet though (touchwood !)

If you go in the summer (July/August) - the best time to go if you want to go into the interior as the roads are mostly closed except for those months - then it is not much colder than this country in fact this year it was probably warmer and certainly drier while we were there, although it was pretty windy at times. Be very careful with this, there is a limit to importing food of 3kg per person and No Dairy produce or uncooked meat can be imported. I know because I was 'arrested' for having 24kgs and fined 6500 IKR (which luckily turned out to be only about £55), although this seems to be a calculated money making exercise by the Icelanders as most foreign vehicles were being stopped and fined. They also never asked us if we had any Alcohol, Cigarettes or Drugs just food ! Mind you we had about £50 worth of food from Tesco's and even accounting for the fine it was probably still cheaper than buying all our food there

I've just (two weeks ago) returned from Iceland. We went with Smyril Line from Scrabster in Scotland (although there are rumours this may be the last year you can do that) and for two of us with a Cabin each way and an over length/over height vehicle (110 + roof rack) it cost £850 return which I thought was ok. It takes a day and a half outward but five days on the way back as you get dumped in the Faroe Isles for 3 days. You could get away with just hiring a car for most of the Island but to get into the interior you really need a 4x4, the interior roads are all very badly corrugated (or at least the ones we drove were), I was also told that hire companies will not insure you to drive on the interior roads - but that may be untrue as we saw several 'ordinary' cars racing aound. We didn't drive any taxing routes as we were on our own and the ones we did drive could have been tackled by any standard Landy, although we did hear some stories from others on the way back about some difficult (ie scary) river crossings on other routes. If you are thinking of camping I would say the only way to go would be to take your own vehicle, we camped every day and most sites were ok if a little basic in places, all costing around £7 pppn. Apart from that I would say GO , I would go back tomorrow if I could I loved it, the scenery is just amazing and is just too BIG to get into a camera! Not had much time lately but I did intend to put some photos up,will try to do so soon (at work now), and I'll try to answer any more questions if you have them. One tip if you go - save room to refuel in the Faroe Isles, I put 116 litres of diesel in for around £64 the bargain of the trip, as as others have said Iceland is pretty expensive - in one shop we picked up a red pepper for our evening curry before dropping it again when we realised they were the equivalent of over £4.50 each !

Been to the dealers today and had a test drive, must say I was quite impressed, very quick through the gears and way way quieter than my TD5. The six speed box would take a bit of getting used to though - I kept forgetting what gear I was in They had at least 4 vehicles outside, and they told me they were unaware of any problems although the station wagons were in short supply.

Apparently Only the Station wagons are going to be in Group G, I've been told that the others will be in Light Goods Group TC39, Which (at the moment ) is £175 for 12 months - which is cheaper than my TD5

I've got a problem with the passenger side wipers, I've taken the dash apart and I can see that the teeth are stripped so I will probably need a new wheelbox (or i may possibly get away with turning it through 180 degrees) Anyway the (probably stupid ) question is, am I right in saying that I have to take the motor and cable out to do either of the above ? Thanks in advance

The new Defender (2007) is going to be "Euro4 Compliant" I think which should take it down a couple of tax groups.

Matt I'v e been thinking about going to Morrocco for a while , Did you visit any the cities (ie Marrakech) if so what was the security like there? as i've been told to be wary of leaving a vehicle unattended.

Glad to hear you're ok Paul I was told from a workmate who had the same op as you, that the worst part of the whole thing was the loud POP when they cut into the artery, did that not happen to you ? It bloody frightened me but luckily they gave me a general when I had mine.Just one word of warning, I felt great when I came out of Hospital as well, but it was about a week or two later when it hit me and I was totally shagg drained for days. Well they made it They arrived in Ulan Bator on Friday (11th), finishing joint 6th (they were in a convoy of four vehicles) , and the panda has already gone off to a new life Matt is currently trying to get tickets and the necessary visas to return as far as Moscow on the Trans Siberian Express, after Moscow he is unsure how he will get back - but he says it will be easy from there as he's almost home ! He has loads of photos and if anyone is interested will tell more on his return (if he ever makes it )

I heard a rumour at Billing this year that the show would not be held there again as the 'residents' were complaining loudly against it. Anyway I don't think it can be held much longer as the camping areas are being swallowed up with static vans. There didn't seem to be that many more people than usual this year, but as Chris says they seemed to be packed in tighter due to the lack of space

Well the panda is still going ! They are currently in Kemerovo, Siberia and can be seen from this they are almost in sight of the target of Ulan Bator

Another update (hope you're not bored yet). They are currently in Kazakhstan, just about here. Which is more or less about half way, although I think they have seen the best of the roads as Matt says it is now better to drive off the roads than on them
