  1. Thanks for the response lo-fi. You just beat me to it. Sorted! it was indeed the grub screw loose on the cross shaft selector "finger" . Useful to know about the selector fork for future reference. A fiddly job in situ but worthwhile. I had emailed Dave Ashcroft for advice about removing that top housing. He replied also confirming that nothing would ping out. That's excellent customer service (I had one of his LT77 gearboxes fitted about 20 years ago to fix the output shaft problem!) Can now move on to the rust.......... Harry
  2. Hello Folks, not been around for quite a while but good to see some regulars still here. Vehicle jumped out of gear (driving away from MOT!). Pulled transfer lever back into H and OK but only for a few yards. After a few further episodes I wasn't able to select H or L range. The lever is loose. I've removed the console and cover panel and can see that the linkage is working fine and turning the shaft on top of the transfer box. I've checked the technical index and not found any reference to this problem. An internet search suggests this may be a loose grub screw. What does the team think? Can I remove the casting that houses the selector shaft without springs and ball bearings etc. shooting out? I've loosened the six bolts and breather and there appears to be enough room to remove them. I'm prepared to cut a "hatch" in the driver's side floor if necessary rather than wrestle the box out. Any advice appreciated - this has been my daily driver for the past 26 + years Thanks, Harry
