  1. I have just brought a 90 rear door of Lewis on the forum. Anyone travelling from Staffordshire WS15 area south via the M1 one weekend ? I live in Thurleigh Bedfordshire (MK44 2DS) so need to get the door to me as cheaply as possible.

    Cheers

  2. When you changed the fuel filter, did you remember to remove the old small O ring that sits in the top of the fuel filter ? I didn't realise I had one when I changed my fuel filter so ended up with a "spare O ring. Consequently the new filter didn't seal properly.

  3. Thanks for the replies. I'll stick some injector cleaner down it and see if that helps. Lift pump is new fitted last year. Injectors were new about 20,000 miles ago. I'll check the valve springs as well and see if I can find someone to check the fuel pump.

    Cheers

  4. OK I took the 90 in to have the fuel pump tweeked and what a difference it's made. I know I could have done it myself with help from the articles in the tech archive but I just didn't trust myself not to mess it up completely. However I have another problem which has been going on for some while. When accelerating, as the revs pick up the engine starts missing and chucks out puffs of white smoke and the boost drop off (you can watch in on the boost gauge). The engine is not using oil or water so I don't suspect a head gasket. The timing was set by a proper LR mechanic (indendent specialist) last year when the timing belt was changed. The garage that did the tweeking (again an LR independant specialist) has indicated that the problem is caused by fueling and want to fit a reconditioned injection pump with all the expense that entails. Problem is I don't want to fit a new FIP and then find I still have the same problem. So before I commit to a recon FIP any suggestions from the forum ?

I changed the fuel filter about 3 months ago and I'm prettty certain it's not letting in air as the car drives fine until I try and push the revs high.

BTW this is a retro fitted 300 Tdi.

    TIA

  5. Just got back from the station and gave it up as a bad job. Trains are suffering severe delays due to snow ;) . So I'll have to work from home today  . It was great fun though driving past all the cars pootling along at 10Mph :D

I fitted a battery into the second compartmet on my 3.5V8i. I just cut the "trumpet" bit of the air filter intake. I also had to move the PAS reservoir by welding a small bracket onto the radiator mount. This was on a petrol so don't know how different it would be on a diesel.

  7. When I fitted the 300Tdi to my former 19j 90 we just bolted it straight onto the existing LT77. We had to re-drill a couple of holes and a couple of studs would not align but, it's been in there for 2 years now with no problems. ISTR someone on the "old" forum did the same thing which is where I got the idea from.

  8. Had a similar thing myself. Two weeks ago I had a brand new prestolite starter motor fitted to my V8 disco. Worked OK for a couple of days then it would not start. Symptons are that when power is applied it spins but does not engage the teeth on the flywheel. Spoke to the company that sold it to me and they are happy to exchange it for another. He did tell me they have been having a lot of problems with theb prestoliet ones recently and that he won't be ordreing anymore.

  9. Bought a set of these for my 90 last year. First trip was to Abingdon and they were absolutely superb never got stuck and didn't even spin a wheel. Next trip was the Milles Rivieres in France and again they were great. Not sure about over here but in Oz theye are guaranteed for 50,000 KM's.

  10. Don't bother with a harmonic damper it does nothing. I took mine off years ago when I fitted a QT diff guard and I have not noticed any change. If you can get one for free then give it a go but I wouldn't pay money for one.

  11. What you really need is a change over relay. This has 2 outputs (87a and 87b I think). One output is normally on and when you supply power to the relay it switches output to the other terminal. I did this on a mates car. The normally on terminal controlled the fan relays and when you turned off the power to the relay it turned off the fan relays. This then put power out of the other terminal which was connected to a red warning light on the dash. The light stayed on until you turned the fans back on.
